WCBS: During the July 16 edition of his show, Savage claimed that autism is “[a] fraud, a racket. … I’ll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it’s a brat who hasn’t been told to cut the act out. That’s what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they’re silent? They don’t have a father around to tell them, ‘Don’t act like a moron. You’ll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don’t sit there crying and screaming, idiot.’”

I’m a father, and I have a child with autism.
This is the first I have heard of Savage saying this, I just don’t know what to say.
THe parents of children with autism are very well organised into various advocacy groups. I am going to check with them, join any boycott or protest going on, and incourage all family members to do the same.

You need to hear the whole thing. He made a lot of sense. He went a little overboard with the percent thing but he always goes a bit above and beyond. I agree that it is a racket. Why have the numbers increased so much in the last few years? It’s so the drug companies can give more drugs to more children! You need to hear the whole rant in context before you judge.

What Savage should be talking about is why the autism rate is so high right now. (A very small percent could be misdiagnosed, but for most of these kids there’s no snapping out of it.)

Maybe Savage should put the theory to the test & take a big 150cc shot of Mercury laced Vaccine just like the US Gov is sticking in baby children across America

Y, I think you should re-read the statement. For someone to suggest my child doesn’t have autism and is just a brat makes me want to vomit. And to date, there is really no drug recomended to treat Autism, just a few drugs that can alleviate some of the symptoms.
Robert Krakow, head of the advocacy group A-Champ, just stated on a message board Home Depot and Aflac have just pulled sponsership from the Savage nation, Budweiser may be soon to follow.

Don’t be so sure Usefull Eater. He has already lost two large sponsers, and an affiliate in Mississipi. Parents of children with autism are in thousands of groups nationwide, some large organizations, and some small local ones as well. Already Savage has had to issue a statement on his website trying to clarify his remarks.

Savage ain’t a Bushie, He’s a bit of a Green/Alternative Medicine/Populist type. He believes that mercury in vaccines cause autism, just like you. I would like him off the air, but not for a fake BS reason like this.
You just eat this hype up, like the mainstream you put down so much.
He wasn’t attacking real autism cases, he was talking about how the diagnosis is so general nowadays that there are a lot of doctors and schools pushing for more diagnoses.
Why?
The government and other private orgs offer grants to programs like speech therapies, counseling, for autism. It is this racket that he’s pissed off at. I shouldn’t have to tell yall to “Follow the money”

There is no overdiagnosis of autism. I don’t understand why I am not supposed to be offended by this statement.

I have spent a little time working in public schools, with life support and special education programs mostly, and you would be surprised. As much as I hate FOX, as much as I hate Savage…I am going to agree, to a degree, with him. Sadly, alot of the children in special education classes do not actually HAVE learning problems, they have behavioral problems. They do NOT listen, they do NOT behave, they do NOT follow directions. This comes from their home enviroment. Schools are huge advocates of medicating children for non-existant problems, this happened to my younger brother. Sometimes parents that cannot control their children correctly do not want to blame themselves, so they look for other reasons besides their lack of proper dicipline…i.e. Autism, ADD, ADHD. These children actually become a distraction for the children who DO have learning disabilities… i.e. Austism, Mental Handicaps, Learning Disabilities. Now, I am a true believer of the whole Thimersol and neurological damage, dumbing down of the population, and the pharmacological frauds. But doctors over diagnos EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. Autism IS REAL, very REAL. But, it is almost like the latest fad for kids. And it is NOT always the family’s fault. People trust, and should be able to trust, their health care professionals. They trust what the doctor recommends, and usually, the doctors trust what their superiors or institutions recommend. It like the little fish get eatten by the medium fish, and the medium fish is being eatten by the big fish and, then, the big fish is devoured by the shark (Pharm companies, CDC, FDA) People need to be aware that conventional medicine HAS saved numerous lives…but, it is the number one killer of Americans. Just in the last decade alone, convetional medicine has killed aprx. 800,000 Americans. That is more than every war casualty in the entire history of American wars. Pfizer as well as others, are top Fortune 500 companies.
If your child has autism…don’t ever load them up on a cocktail of dangerous drugs and therapies. Appreciate them for who they are.

Megan, behavioral problems are a side effect of autism. Sometimes the kids are mistaken for having behavioral problems because they seem so much like the other kids. It is not easy to get a diagnosis of autism, the proccess usually takes years.
Yes, I have seen Mercola.
A new tape of Savage calling children with autism stupid, and troublemakers has popped up. He also calls the parents parasites.

Yeah I agree with savage… Too many single moms out there, god bless them there is just no way to ‘replace’ a real father. It’s a shame the family values once held in the US have been eroded to this extreme, from doctors trying to make a quick buck, and moms trying to pass the buck, its a perfect combination for whats to come. Get prepared, the great dark age is upon us.

Danny, do you think my 6 year old is faking not being able to talk? How are the moms trying to “pass the buck?” Do you know most insurance companies don’t cover autism? When you say you agree with Savage, you are saying my kid is just a brat and that I am a parasite. We went from a two income family to a one income family.
