  • 10 things you should eliminate from your diet today

    ABC15
    Sunday, July 20, 2008

Health coach Dr. Asa Andrew has a different way of looking at health.

He says his approach is easy; the human body is very complex, but health is nothing more than common sense.

He’s put together a list of 10 items that should be eliminated from everyone’s kitchen, diet and lifestyle to keep them healthier.

    (Article continues below)

    Here’s that list:

    1) Trans fats
Read your labels! Anything that says “partially hydrogenated” is a trans fat.
Trans fats cause clogged arteries, type 2 diabetes, and other serious health problems. Only cook with organic butter or extra-virgin coconut oil as all other oils will turn into trans fat when used for cooking (including olive oil).

    2) Artificial sweeteners
Contribute to diabetes because they prompt you to eat more.
Aspartame and sucralose (Splenda) should be avoided completely due to their toxic effects on the body. Alternatives are raw honey, agave nectar, stevia extract, and xylitol.

    3) High fructose corn syrup and processed sugars
Fructose converts to fat more than any other sugar.
This may be one of the reasons Americans continue to get fatter.

    4) Soy products
Creates hormonal imbalances in men and women by affecting estrogen levels.
Instead of soy milk for drinks and for infants, use goat’s milk. It is the closest to a human mother’s milk and is highly anti-allergenic.

    5) Pork products
Creates toxic cells. Never meant for consumption.

A health body is the living space for a health mind.

    2. cindy Says:

      You forgot SODA POP TOO!

    3. Andrew Says:

cindy, if you click on ‘Full article here’ at the bottom of this article then scroll down on the page the link takes you to it will say ‘Next’, click on that for the 2nd page and at no. 8. is listed ‘Soft drinks’.:) :P

    4. Dave Says:

“Only cook with organic butter or extra-virgin coconut oil as all other oils will turn into trans fat when used for cooking (including olive oil).”

Not true, to make hydrogenated oils you need a lot of specialized equipment that will HYDROGENATE the oils. Cooking oils does not create trans fats. See WestonAprice.org for more information.

    5. Steve Williams Says:

The article fails to mention something else that needs to be removed from the american diet: israeli citizens occupying the highest posts in the american government and using the USA as a bunch of dummies and flunkies to do the bidding of Israel, a country which seems very much bent on pushing the world into nuclear war for whatever completely insane reason it’s doing so.

A nuclear explosion in your face is *much* more dangerous than transfats.

And, of course, kids, just say no to artificial sweetners!

    6. Embers Says:

Aspartame, brought to you by Donald Rumsfeld. Who cares about brain tumors, brain lesions, and lymphoma when you can use your political connections and influence to have the head of the FDA replaced. Jere E. Goyan, was removed from his post on the first day of Ronald Reagan’s presidency (1981). Goyan had refused to approve the use of aspartame due to studies documenting increase of cancers in rats. Reagan appointed Arthur Hull Hayes, MD as FDA Commissioner in April 1981. In the same year Hayes approved aspartame as a food additive against an FDA Public Board of Inquiry recommendation

Epidemiology Branch Chief Thomas Wilcox reported that aspartame complaints represented 75% of all reports of adverse reactions to substances in the food supply from 1981 to 1995.

I will continue to boycott all products that contain this toxic addition…

    7. Simone deMontfort Says:

A great & humane alternative to soy milk is rice milk. It’s yummy & doesn’t contribute to cruelty to animals like goat’s milk.

I agree w/ avoiding pork, but I think all meat should be avoided. Humans were not designed to eat meat.

Actually, animal products in general are not healthy & should be avoided.

      Jill Reply:

Then why do we have teeth intended for chewing meat? Why are our digestive systems set up to digest meat? How, exactly, is milking a cow “cruel”? Why is it that truthfully, we can not get all of our dietary needs without including at least some meat. How is it that there are a number of cultures worldwide who thrive on diets containing almost exclusively meat products (Masai and Inuit)?
      Don’t buy the lie.

    8. FK Says:

I would say the top ten things not to eat are the top ten things you conspiracy theorists eat…

      Seems to cause massive retardation….

    9. Dave Says:

“Actually, animal products in general are not healthy & should be avoided.”

This is not necessarily true. Animal products (from well raised, pastured animals) have sustained radiant health in human populations the world over. Weston Price documented this phenemon extensively years back. If animal products gave us cancer and heart disease, then the human race would not be here, because animal products were consumed by all humans everywhere from the days of early man. Vegetarianism is a relatively new concept, only made possible by the grain revolution. Grains are a very inefficient source of nutrients, and contribute to high insulin levels (or diabetes eventually).

On a side note, the foods with the highest amounts of cholesterol, such as liver, tend to be the most nutrient dense. And these are preformed nutrients, these are not the analogues you see, the “carotenoids” that are touted as vitamin A. No, these are precursors to vitamin A. The best sources of vitamin A come from animal products, such as liver and cod liver oil.

      See westonaprice.org for more information.

The new world order seeks to starve us. The principles behind vegetarianism will further that end. We need a return to traditional, sustainable farming practices that can provide food locally. We need to shut down every confined animal feedlot operation being run today. We need to scale back the scope of conventional farming operations so the the carrying capacity of land is not exceeded.

    10. rypat Says:

Simone… certain animal consumption are quite necessary for healthy human function, however should be eaten sparingly. And cruelty to animals!? WTF lol what if I told you plants had feelings too? Oh wait they do!Uh-oh

    11. GARKO FACTOR Says:

add to the list anything GMO
don’t know which foods are and aren’t GMO?
i am told by Trader Joe’s corporate that their own line of products have no GMO
i hope i am being told the truth.
but it is the best alternative i have so far.
second best is organic but find out more, rather than just settling for them saying it is organic

    12. Joe Says:

If you want to know what animals are good to eat, just bust out a normal household Bible and crack it open to Leviticus 11:1-47
(sorry people, vulture and squirrl is out)

If you want to know what else you should be eating that is in Genesis 1:29

And somewhere in psalms it says to keep honey on your pallet as well, use that instead of granulated sugar/fructose.

    13. RayB Says:

Simone go back to school and learn some biology. Ruminants like cows have 4 stomachs in order to digest grass… they are vegetarians. In fact even that is not true since they also eat lots of insects. This was also a fact for the old days Indy vegetarians that got sick one we started eating bug free vegetables.

Our stomachs are designed to digest meat. The chloridric acid and enzymes that are produced in our digestive tracks are what’s best out there to break down meat. Religion and other believes have produced vegetarianism, not nature.

I agree with mar, religion rots the brain. I prefer being rational than irrational.

    14. Bonnster Says:

RayB I think you should go back to school. Meat consumption is not necessary for healthy human function. What is necessary are complete proteins(essential amino acids) which you can get from a variety of grains, beans, pulses, and legumes. The only thing that we need from animals is B12 which by the way can be obtained from fortified products. Vitamin D you can get from the sun. Omega-3 fatty acids, best source is flax seeds. B6 you can get from fruit, veggies, seeds, and grains. For more info read a book, for instance the China Study(The most comprehensive study of nutrition ever conducted). Or study the longest living people in the world: Abkhasia, Vilcabamba, Hunza, and Okinawa.

    15. Nunya Says:

A lot of you are claiming that this is all mumbo jumbo…it isn’t. What gets me is that everyone thinks that if it’s edible it’s okay to put into your body and will do you no harm. Give me a break. I’m not so sure about some of these but a lot of them you really should stay away from. It’s not like this person is saying your going to die right away if you consume this stuff. But it does lead to all types of diseases and illnesses.

Like high-fructose corn syrup, that crap is so horrible for you. If you look at the ingredients at almost every food you eat it’s in there. It’s one of the sole reasons for the incredibly high rates of type 2 diabetes and obesity. I mean some foods have high fructose corn syrup AND sugar in them. Holy mother…you think that’s good for you?

Same with soda, all it is is carbonated water and nothing but sugar (high fructose corn syrup) and syrup with some flavoring. How in the world can that be good for you?

It is a scientific fact that artificial sweeteners turn to formaldehyde in your body. You don’t think that is bad for you? Seriously?! Putting something in your body that is only used to preserve it when your dead, before your dead????

if your not going to eat non organic meat at least try to eat meat without hormones. Why do you think little girls are going into puberty at the age of 9 nowadays?! And 16 year old girls look like grown women.

    16. RayB Says:

Hey Bonn – if humanity had relied on “fortified” B12 supplements and things that don’t grow everywhere on earth we would not be here to talk about it.

We are OMNIVORES!!! This is where we are coming from for some good reasons too. In winter it was impossible for humans to survive without meats.

Now go read a book and learn some more about the history of humanity. Even your hard core vegan eats little crawlers hidden in the food. And besides eating food just for sustenance is really not fun but then again what do yo expect from the American people that lack culture.

Now if you will excuse me I will go eat my pork chops and bacon while reading the Torah. Yummy!

    17. Bonnster Says:

As for winter, it’s called migration animals do it every year. Second, read alittle on how B12 is synthesized you might be surprised. There are several sources stating why humans need to get B12 from protein sources in todays times, unlike how people obtained B12 in the past. And alittle known fact most people with B12 deficiencies and/or pernicious anemia are NOT vegans.

    18. MotherBrain Says:

No shellfish and pork, oy gavey! lol. Probably a government conspiracy to turn us all into Jews! I read it in the protocols! But all anti-semetic satire aside, Rypat, do you know about the terrible cruelty that animals that we eat are put through? These animals give up their very bodies, in order to allow us to live. The best we could do is honor their sacrifice, by letting them live happily until the moment their lives are taken. Your comment shows a real disregard for life.

    19. Simone deMontfort Says:

RayB said, “Simone go back to school…” Ha! I have a BA, MA, JD & I’m working on an LLM (master’s in law, in case you didn’t know). I seriously doubt you can even begin to compete w/ that. Maybe you’re the one who should go back to school…? And how do I know anything about animals? It just so happens my advanced law degree is in animal law.

    20. RayB Says:

What law has to do with science? It is not by listing your supposed degrees in arts that makes you an expert in animal biology. If you want to know I have more degrees in chemistry and bio-physics that most people… it is call a PhD… Ha! You see I have degrees too. Emotions have no place in science, we deal with facts.

Next time I need a lawyer for my dog, I shall call you.

I love meat, vegetables, grains, etc We don’t buy fast raised animals boosted on hormones and antibiotics, we buy animals that were raised in respect. We respect the animals that are raised for this purpose and we thank them for their sacrifice. In return they were treated well and with respect. That said, they have no idea or feeling about death since they lack self-awareness.

Now back to my pork and bacon… Shalom!
