Man arrested for calling Bloomberg office
A critic of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been arrested on charges of making more than 1,000 harassing phone calls to Bloomberg's press office.
Christopher Brodeur, who is mounting a campaign for mayor, allegedly called the press office 1,379 times between last Sept. 2 and Jan. 12, the New York Daily News reported Saturday. If convicted, he faces up to a year behind bars.
Brodeur reportedly called the press office recently and ranted that they lied to him.
"They should be lucky that they have their throat intact," police quoted Brodeur as saying. "Because I'll tell New Yorkers this flat out, you lie to me, you should thank the Lord that I didn't slice your throat because I think if you lie to me, I should slice your throat out."
Brodeur was acquitted of harassing members of former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani's press office in September 1999.
"Bloomberg arrested me for criticizing him just like Giuliani arrested me for criticizing him," Brodeur said in a statement released by his campaign manager, Jessica Delfino.
