Alex, I hope you read this so you quit singing the tune of those whom you interview.
I am never sure about conspiracy theories, so I won't speak about that. But Gul's comments and analysis of India were so distorted, either he lives in a world of fantasy (which I doubt as he is former DG of ISI) or he just played you with his fingers (because of your ignorance about the facts, may be?).

Gul: India's economy is dwindling :- How can he say such a thing when India's GDP (PPP) is $4T (fourth largest - highest till date), and that too when India is still a developing country? (If you do not understand what I mean... it means India's economy is not saturated yet and almost all the sectors have enormous potential for growth). In fact our agricultural and manufacturing sectors are not getting overcrowded, which means people are turning to services sector more and more (I imply - lesser disguised employment, leading to a faster and real growth). Are these the signs of dwindling economy? He talks as if India was born, peaked and burned out within its lifetime of 60 years.

Gul: And this is beginning to have an effect because last year alone 108,000 farmers in India committed suicide :- Alex, I am not proud about giving you this news, but it surely shows how Gen. Gul exaggerates to misinform people like you. The entire toll has been less than half for entire decade compared to just one year toll that Gen. Gul talks about. Here's the link if you may follow and correct yourself. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7333911.stm Now don't go on degrading the Indians for such happenings because they are results of a bad system that we are, though a little slowly, getting rid of. Besides, per every farmer that commits suicide, his family is provided with 500,000 rupees. Do you think that apart from allocating $222M in farmer relief fund, will the govt. be left with any money to allocate 500,000 for each of 108,000 farmers?

Gul: 231 districts are under control of Moaists/Naxalites:- I know you won't get much indepth knowledge to rectify that because those areas are rarely reported in the news. But I will tell you what, if you check the worldwideweb out, you will find that the Indian state infected by Moaists/Naxalites in the worst way is Orissa. Now if this were true, do you think that industrial giants will invest their money in such a state? (Precisely, their plants are coming up at the depth of those hills that are considered hub of the Naxalites). If you think I sound ambigous, TATA Steel has pumped in more than $11b and Posco has put in $26b. In the seventh largest country, couldn't they get a more suitable place than the hub of Maoists/Naxalites?

Gen. Gul simply lied on your face, and in spite of his being a Pakistani talking about India, you failed to detect the bias. That was least expected of someone who eats, drinks, and sleeps news.

Myself and one other member spent two days transcribing this interview for the prison planet forum. It was not an easy task even though his English is impeccable, his enunciation stumbles a bit due to his accent and many words are run together and thus had to be picked apart. Regardless, it was obvious in his tone and his cadence that his agenda was to get this information out. I am sure that much weight in relief was removed from his shoulders when he did.

I listened to the interview probably a total of 10 times, and it was an education I can tell you for sure... many of his points were search words on Google and Yahoo for me, and I found the everything he said was true... including the number of farmers who have committing suicide, most believe they have defiled the sacred Earth, so it will no longer produce. Thank you Monsanto and ADM!

You can read our transcript, over on the prison planet forum, and if you listen to the show while you read it, and catch any phrases that may be misstated, or if any of the unintelligible bracketed phrases, are clear to you, please post your findings on this thread... thanks.

Yasir —
You said:
<blockquote>"Gul has misspoken when he said that hundred thousand farmers have comited suicide in India last year. Instead the number is less then thousand"</blockquote>

Gul's numbers are mainstream. From the Satya Interview with Kavitha Kuruganti, a consultant for India’s Centre for Sustainable Agriculture (CSA), titled "Against All Odds", from March 2007, we read:
<blockquote>"From recent reports citing official statistics, farmer suicides over the past decades have crossed 150 thousand."</blockquote>
Another prominent article on the web is titled "The farm crisis: why have over one lakh farmers killed themselves in the past decade?". One lakh is a Hindu quantity, which Wikipedia defines as 100,000.

Frankly, I think your minimization is not credible.

veritaze &mdash

many thanks for the kind words. I just now finished vetting (nearly) all the bugs out of it, No small credit goes to an email I got from one Uttam Poudel, whose email address is now part of the header at my website's posting of this amazing interview.

Mr. Poudel gave me words like Naxalite (q.v.) which I couldn't have guessed in a million years. I have, I might add, included links to many less obvious references I didn't have time to research in the first hours.

I can't remember anything I've heard on Alex's show that impressed me more, although the William Pepper interview, which I transcribed at my site, was another knockout.

Until Paul updates this copy, you can access mine at http://proudprimate.com/resources/hamidgul.htm

You heard those roaches scurrying too, did you?

Kudos to whoever transcribed this. This has to be the best piece of journalism and mass communications for all of 2008, if not longer. Even if Gul has his own agenda, I think this still sheds plenty of light on the current dire situation we are all in globally at the hands of these neocon psychopaths. You could hear the roaches scurrying away during the live interview.

skot —

<blockquote>"why don’t they take out the assholes when they off them selves?"</blockquote>

For one reason, it's very difficult. The victim of these oppressions is already at the end of his/her strength and resources. How does a poor farmer in India find his way into the mahogany panelled boardroom of Monsanto in the USA to do that rash deed?

For another, the backlash makes it all worse for the fellow sufferers left behind. I don't say the corporate thieves and murderers aren't worthy of retribution. But the damage to our cause in the form of justification for a bigger crackdown has to be considered.

I have often thought Mme. Guillotine has slept too long. But as Alex has mentioned, the French Revolution was to large extent a failure because of La Terreur. As the Wikipedia article says,
<blockquote>" Sometimes people died for their political opinions or actions, but many for little reason beyond mere suspicion, or because some others had a stake in getting rid of them."</blockquote>

And as Nietzsche rightly observed:

<blockquote>"Wer mit Ungeheuern kämpft, mag zusehn, daß er nicht dabei zum Ungeheuer wird. Und wenn du lange in einen Abgrund blickst, blickt der Abgrund auch in dich hinein."

("Whoever does battle with monsters, let him take heed that he become not thereby himself a monster. And when you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks also deeply into you.")</blockquote>
