| President Bush has upheld the semi-automatic assault weapons ban that was pushed through by the Clinton administration. During the Clinton administration Republicans screamed “Bloody Murder” at the outrage of this ban. But no one is screaming now are they? Why? Because it is not politically wise to criticize the Bush administration these days. In fact it is political suicide. To do so is to achieve the certain honor of being labeled un-American. In the past I have asked why the Bush administration proposes, passes and enforces legislation like the Patriot Act that is not only unconstitutional, but a literal threat to our freedom? Why does this administration not only refuse to close the borders (the real safety security threat to America), but threaten and even jail some of those that try and patrol and protect private property along the Mexican border? Republicans campaign and win campaigns on the myth that they support a strong national defense, gun rights and freedom. The truth is they don’t. Those within the Republican party who do have now found themselves to be targeted by members of and supporters of their own party. The Republicans are threatening to run a candidate against Colorado representative Tom Tancredo in the next primary election. Tancredo has a 68% approval rating from the constituents of his district. The citizens want the borders closed. Remember - strong national defense begins at home! Unfortunately the Bush administration does not want the borders closed. His fellow Republicans have targeted Representative Ron Paul in the past for his beliefs in a strict adherence to Constitutional law. Luckily he has strong support from his constituents. Paul however; is now being attacked by another “ Conservative” organization, the NRA. According to the Chicago-Sun Times, “The National Rifle Association is considering opposing Rep. Ron Paul, a champion of gun rights, in next year's Texas Republican primary. Paul evoked the NRA's ire April 9 by opposing a bill that would order federal and state courts to immediately dismiss lawsuits against gun makers and gun sellers. Paul always has defended Second Amendment protection for gun owners. However, he objected to Congress legislating against state rights.” (For the record, Gun Owners of America is supporting Representative Paul.) As I mentioned earlier Paul is a strict Constitutionalist. This country was founded upon the belief that there would be a very basic federal government with limited powers and that the states serve as agent to their citizens in regards to the federal government. Since the tragedy of Sept. 11th 2001 all we have heard are calls for a stronger federal government. We have fought two wars in the name of national security yet have done nothing to insure the security of our “Homeland”. I ask that the citizens who consider themselves true conservatives please take a closer look at the Republican Party and what they really stand for. Do they back up their principals with their actions? Or do they say one thing and do another? It’s time to restore our Constitutional Republic. The only way to do this is at the voting booth. But we all must exercise our ability to think for ourselves. Our country cannot be restored or freedom secured by contributing to the current “two party’s” expansion of government and restriction of freedom. |
| Restoring the Republic: Reasons to Vote Third Party By Clint Lacy How many of you vote Republican simply because you believe that they are fiscally responsible, pro-gun or pro-freedom? If you do then I have a few reasons you should stop voting Republican and start voting third party. Sure the Rush Limbaugh's and the Sean Hannity’s of the world will tell you that you are wasting your vote and ask you questions like, “ Don’t you want to be on the side that wins?”. But if you listen to these guys what are you really winning? |
