FULL-BODY scanners will be introduced at Australia’s eight major gateway airports after receiving the green light from the federal government.
The decision comes after trials of the scanners in Melbourne and Sydney and has a target date of July 1.
Office of Transport Security official Peter Robertson told an airports conference in Brisbane yesterday the agency was still working on the body scanner “proof of concept” trials and a privacy impact assessment.
But he said the government had agreed to parameters that would allow the body scanners to be introduced.
