Stop FTAA—It’s the Wrong Choice
Tens of thousands of workers joined with community allies for four days of rousing, energized Stop FTAA events in Miami, where they protested the Nov. 18–21 closed-door meetings of trade ministers discussing the next steps in creating the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA), a hemisphere-wide trade deal that will destroy family-supportive U.S. jobs.
Understanding the dynamics involved in previous congressional votes on NAFTA and other so-called trade pacts is key to stopping the dangerous erosion of our sovereignty.
The Free Trade Area of the Americas Threatens Freedom in the US
Would Americans ever choose to transfer of sovereignty to unelected foreign bureaucrats who could intrude upon almost every facet of life? Absolutely not. But we are unknowingly being asked to do exactly that in the deceptive name of "free trade and prosperity" under an internationalist scheme called the Free Trade Area of the Americas.
FTAA: Assault on American Middle Class
In most lands, "born into poverty, always in poverty" had been the norm for centuries. But during the 19th and 20th centuries, the rise of the American middle class offered hope to impoverished peoples throughout the world, hope that upward mobility was possible, if not for them then perhaps for their children.
If you like illegal immigration you’ll love the FTAA! FTAA advocates favor open borders. Although keeping the general public in the dark as to their real plans, FTAA sponsors admit that the FTAA is intended to follow in the footsteps of the EU – and so will lead to the abolition of meaningful national borders.
America has long been admired as the land of opportunity. In America, hard work was rewarded. Most Americans could better themselves and look forward to rising prosperity. But this American dream is in trouble.
