1930s had much less ice, ships managed 2 trips a year through the areas, read Ian Plimers heaven+earth for the details and a good education. West antarctic lost sheet ice, not ice from the land areas, and the East is growing in density. the warmists do NOT mention that though.

I understand that the Gulf Stream changes coarse periodically. Instead of curving across the N. Atlantic toward Europe it swings North between Greenland and Baffin Island into the Arctic. This causes warming in the North and a much colder Northern Europe. These “Experts” can’t predict weather 3 days ahead, how can they predict longer events?

What is it you wish to learn? A dramatic shift in jet steams lead to melting glaciers which resulted in the extinctions of the Wooly Mammoth and other interesting creatures like Neaderthal Human.
There are far more natural ways to alter the climate, but aside from a quiescent solar period which should be cooling the planet, temperatures continue to rise from man-made greenhouse gases.

Volcanoes have always emitted far more green house gasses than mankind ever did. Besides, water vapor accounts for 95% of the green house effect. Solar activity (or lack there of) is the main cause of all of it any way. Some years back several workers at Mammoth Mt. , CA were smothered in a pit. It filled up with CO2 being emitted from the ground. Mammoth Mt. sits on the Long Valley Caldera that covers a huge area. It emits all sorts of gasses all the time. It was active as recently as 6-800 years ago and could erupt again anytime.

This is a very important announcement:
I have uploaded a video on my web site, of a very simple experiment which completely debunks AGW and the so called “greenhouse” effect of CO2.
AGW has been inserted into the collective mind through repetition of a false premise. Through a repeated mantra of catch-phrases such as “Manmade Global Warming”, “Anthropogenic Global Warming” and “The Greenhouse Effect” over many decades, the majority of people around the world have been slowly brainwashed into believing that humans are responsible for naturally occurring climate change.
Finally there is a simple way to prove for sure if there is any truth in these claims. At last we can know it, instead of just believing it. I have devised a simple test which even a child can replicate. It clearly proves that ordinary mixed air, 79% nitrogen and 20% oxygen holds on to heat longer than pure CO2.
This simple experiment, which can be reproduced by anyone for less than £5.00, is the defining proof that CO2 is not a greenhouse gas and it proves once and for all that CO2 DOES NOT TRAP HEAT.
I hope that those on this forum who are not scientists working for the NWO agenda of global government, will immediately appreciate the implications of this experiment and help spread the link to as many people as possible. In particular to those in government such as senator Inhof and others who are in a position to make a difference. I will be doing the same during the last few days of Copenhagen and beyond.
In light of this reproducible evidence it is clear that any agreements signed at Copenhagen, will be fraudulent and invalid. Any officials, elected or otherwise making such agreements will be guilty of fraud and possibly worse.
I have not tested this video in Internet Explorer but it seems to work OK in a Safari browser (it was produced on a mac). The only concern I have is the decimation of fish in the oceans. There have been no rules enforced and the sea is becoming a hot-house for undesirable, inedible creatures. Retreating ice? Who said ? Oh, yes, it was the Brit. expedition in 2009, that published the (faked) result before they had even finished the survey.
Reason for this faux pas? ? They had tech. problems on the survey, and overan the planned survey time. The faked results had already been prepared beforehand, and then were published prematurely..

No sea ice decline in the 1930’s that I can see, but a whopping big one in the present, leading many scientists to predict ice free summers in the Arctic, perhaps as early as 2013.
Yes, in past geological eras, there were no polar caps. This corresponds to eras in which CO2 in the atmosphere was much higher than it is now.
In the past, such changes happened generally very slowly, and had a lot of randomness mixed in. There has never been such a rapid, systematic rise in CO2 concentration as we are subjecting the atmosphere to right now, and plan in the future, except perhaps during sudden methane releases from methane hydrates, with the methane being oxidized into CO2.

Think of the climate as a car, being driven down the road. If a tire blows, or the driver is poisoned, or the windshield is obscured by ice or mud, the car can go out of control. Self-regulating systems, if subjected to a perturbation, can go out of control.
This has apparently happened before, according to mainstream published papers by climate scientists. These scientists describe an extinction apparently caused by runaway global warming, which killed 90% or so of all species on the planet at that time:

This is what I think myself might happen, an event similar to the End Permian mass extinction.
The scenario goes like this:
Fossil fuel combustion drives CO2 levels to 1000 ppm by the end of the century. This causes icecap melting, warming due to the ice/albedo feedback, burning of forests in massive firestorms releasing CO2 from the forests, and release of CO2 and methane from the melting permafrost, oceans, desertification, and so on. These preliminary positive feedback loops set off release of methane from methane hydrate deposits, which triggers even more warming.
The seas turn anoxic and acidic, shellfish cannot form shells and so go extinct. Massive plumes of methane from the hydrates become common, and eventually start releasing methane directly into the atmosphere. Sediments containing dissociating hydrate start to slide, releasing billions of tons of methane in single events, and many such events occur. Temperatures soar, and the anoxic oceans start to release clouds of toxic hydrogen sulfide gas. Eventually, an event like the End Permian mass extinction is triggered, and at least 90 percent of us die, along with most life on earth.
The climate is like a wild beast, or at least can become so when aroused.
And we’re poking at it with sticks.

The human contribution to this tiny figure of CO2 is not even 1% of 0.03811% or less than 0.00041%
