The Champions League match between AS Roma and Manchester United at the Olympic Stadium in Rome started amidst fears of potential violence between rival sets of fans.

The Italian police moved in to control Manchester United fans during the match when violence erupted.

Many fans have accused the police of heavy handed tactics and beating fans who were trying to get away.

Police became involved after both sets of fans appeared to begin to confront each other, particularly after goals were scored.

Several Manchester United fans were injured and 11 were later taken to hospital as a result of the violence last night in Rome.
