Letter: Terror threat is real

Comment: The following letter appeared in the Daily Astorian of Oregon today. I couldn't ignore it no matter how hard I tried. It just epitomises everything wrong with America today.

Regarding your editorial (“Our hope lies with Congress and judges,” The Daily Astorian, Jan. 3), it never ceases to amaze me how your extreme hatred of President Bush continues to blind you to the fact that he is trying to protect the American people in the face of vicious and constant attacks by liberals to undermine his efforts.

You raise the silly specters conjured by George Orwell and Aldous Huxley and their versions of “Big Brother.” I can’t decide if you are completely ignorant of the terrorist threat that hangs over the nation or whether you feel that it’s worth experiencing another 9/11 attack simply in order to get rid of President Bush.

You constantly bring up the possibility of subverting the sacred Constitution and civil rights if the administration continues with its warrant-less communication monitoring.

You and your ilk (the left-wing media) continually attack the Patriot Act.

You demand that the nation be protected from terrorists but insist on eliminating any weapons with which to do so.

You and your “brothers-in-arms,” the American Civil Liberties Union, worry more about the civil rights of blood-thirsty terrorists than the lives of Americans.

Despite your left-wing propaganda, a recent Rasmussen poll revealed that 64 percent of Americans believe that the National Security Agency should intercept such international communications and a NewsMax survey of 150,000 votes across the Internet showed 80 percent supporting the president’s action.

The Democrats continue to undermine the president at their own peril, because if they insist on traveling on their hate-filled road, they’re just liable to trigger a massive backlash by the voters and might appropriately be labeled the “TOP,” standing for the “Treason Obstructionist Party.”
