Surveillance cameras on private ranches
The state plans to install cameras on private ranches along the border
AUSTIN – A new state plan to enhance border security will put surveillance cameras on border ranches to monitor illegal immigrants in action.
The cameras will cost the state $5 million. They will be placed on ranches considered crossing hot spots. They will only be installed with the owner’s permission.
The cameras will be routed to the Internet. Anyone at any time can check out activity on a ranch and watch in on the computer.
Once the cameras are in place, the state will set up a toll-free number. Anyone who sees a crime committed on camera can call and report it.
