McCain, Giuliani Vie for 9-11 Brand Marc Santora NASHUA, N.H. — It is shaping up to be a bit of a rough day for the Giuliani 9/11 brand today. Senator John McCain will hold a press conference later today with Thomas H. Kean, the former New Jersey governor who was co-chairman of the 9/11 commission. He will endorse the Arizona senator. For the Republican politician charged with thoroughly examining all aspects of the events surrounding the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. 2001 not to endorse the former New York City mayor, who has built much of his campaign around his leadership during the crisis, is an undeniable blow. The Giuliani camp wasted no time trying to blunt the endorsement, sending reporters late last night remarks made by Mr. Kean’s son, State Senator Tom Kean, Jr.
(Article continues below) “Rudy Giuliani is the proven leader New Jerseyans want as our next President,'’ the younger Kean wrote. “We have witnessed his leadership firsthand and know he will win New Jersey in both the primary and general elections.” No matter how close father and son are, this afternoon’s endorsement
by the elder Mr. Kean in Boston should be interesting.
