Report: Al-Zawahiri caught in Pakistan

Osama bin Laden's top deputy has reportedly been captured near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Israeli Radio reported Monday.

Ayman al-Zawahiri, an Egyptian physician and former head of Egypt's Islamic Jihad, has long been the No. 2 in al-Qaida's command structure.

Pakistani soldiers are credited with having caught al-Zawahiri.

Earlier Monday the U.S. commander of coalition forces in Afghanistan said there is little evidence of al-Qaida fighters still in Afghanistan.

Lt. Gen. David Barno also said Pakistan's crackdown on al-Qaida operatives has made life harder for fugitives hiding in tribal areas near the border.
