Children have lost touch with the natural world and are unable to identify common animals and plants, according to a survey.
Half of youngsters aged nine to 11 were unable to identify a daddy-long-legs, oak tree, blue tit or bluebell, in the poll by BBC Wildlife Magazine. The study also found that playing in the countryside was children’s least popular way of spending their spare time, and that they would rather see friends or play on their computer than go for a walk or play outdoors.
The survey asked 700 children to identify pictured flora and fauna. Just over half could name bluebells, 54 per cent knew what blue tits were and 45 per cent could identify an oak. Less than two-thirds (62 per cent) identified frogs and 12 per cent knew what a primrose was.
(Article continues below)
Children performed better at identifying robins (95 per cent) and badgers, correctly labelled by nine out of 10.
Sir David Attenborough warned that children who lack any understanding of the natural world would not grow into adults who cared about the environment. “The wild world is becoming so remote to children that they miss out,” he said, “and an interest in the natural world doesn’t grow as it should. Nobody is going protect the natural world unless they understand it.”
Fergus Collins, of BBC Wildlife Magazine, said the results “reinforce the idea that many children don’t spend enough time playing in the green outdoors and enjoying wildlife – something older generations might have taken for granted”.
A surprisingly large number of children incorrectly identified the bluebells as lavender, and the deer was commonly misidentified as an antelope.
The newt, recognised by 42 per cent, was mistaken for a lizard while the primrose was thought to be a dandelion.

Dumbing down it is called… Carl Sagan was the prince of dumbdowners, and his and Humason and Hubble’s big bang theory is the dumbest piece of sh*t ever put to air.
Big rasberry to the academic lobby who have stood still and stayed silent, while Sagan and the Murdoch media, and the J press, turned the scientific clock back around three thousand years, to when Copernicus proved that the Earth was not at the center of the universe… Sagan and the BB’ers have put it back there… J science class, “…well there was this Big Bang.”
Obama is as dumb as sh*t!!

@The article
“The study also found that playing in the countryside was children’s least popular way of spending their spare time, and that they would rather see friends or play on their computer than go for a walk or play outdoors.”
Have you SEEN the outdoors? It’s dirty and full of bugs and stuff… who the hell would want to spend time out there?
“54 per cent knew what blue tits were”
The rest were too busy laughing at the word “tit”… hehehehe… Besides we all know that blue tits are what Eskimo women have
But seriously… TITS! hehehehe… no really I mean it now…
“Sir David Attenborough warned that children who lack any understanding of the natural world would not grow into adults who cared about the environment. “The wild world is becoming so remote to children that they miss out,” he said, “and an interest in the natural world doesn’t grow as it should. Nobody is going protect the natural world unless they understand it.””
True, but this article does not give enough information about the survey itself. For example, if it is a survey of inner city school children, then it’s not exactly a surprise that not many of them have been into the countryside. So why would you expect them to have a broad knowledge of something they have never seen?
“Experts blamed the widening gulf between children and nature on over-protective parents and the hostility to children among some conservationists, who fear that they will damage the environment.”
Well, that just goes to show that these unidentified “experts” are just retards and or liars. Ignore the societal pressures (not being able to afford trips to the countryside, for example) and an education system designed to create good workers, not well educated people (very few employers require bird identification skills, for example)… no, it is the parents and the environmentalists that are to blame!
Bollocks.
“Dr Martin Maudsley, play development officer for Playwork Partnerships, at the University of Gloucestershire, said that adults had become too protective of wild places: “Environmental sensitivities should not be prioritised over children.”"
First of all, there is a whole industry dedicated to helping kids PLAY? Jesus, in my day kids sort of instinctively KNEW how to play and didn’t need “support” to do it… I guess times change.
Secondly, once again blaming the wrong thing. I would like to see ANY evidence that a child was unable to go into a natural setting because an adult was “too protective” of it.
Far more likely is the fact that many (if not most) children’s experience of a “natural area” is limited to a small local park that is about as natural as my back garden. Hell, even in the countryside there is very little REAL natural settings anymore. Farmland doesn’t count.
So, why am I not surprised that most children aren’t able to spend time in wilderness preserves? I mean it couldn’t be because they are usually miles away from anywhere, could it?
Finally, and sort of off topic:
“They said that this lack of exposure to outdoor play in natural environments was vital for children’s social and emotional development.”
The editors of this article aren’t too bright either. The LACK of exposure is VITAL for their development? I think not…

“Obama is as dumb as sh*t!!”
Well, he is smart enough to be in the running for the presidency, so my guess is YOU are the retard.
August 3rd, 2008 at 7:18 am
Yeah, it’s all Carl Sagan’s fault… A brilliant physicist and humanist is the reason kids are ignorant. It has absolutely nothing to do with their being raised in a capitalist consumer culture that promotes mindless violence and stresses that we be obsessed only with all things venal and discard anything else. Remember what Bush said we should do after 9/11? “Go out shopping”… Yeah, I’m sure Carl Sagan would have agreed…
ARE YOU F@$KING SERIOUS? Carl Sagan and the Big Bang theory are the reason kids can’t appreciate nature? What a joke. Carl Sagan was a great man. The comparison of Carl Sagan or anyone who subscribes to the Big Bang theory to someone refusing to believe the Earth was not the center of the universe is ludicrous. Such a statement has all the hallmarks of a raving religious fundamentalist.

Obama is about as dumb as the dumbest retard on planet Earth, his blind treason and ruthless ambition has rendered him liable to prosecution and hangin death, in the face of his calculated blindness to hard evidence that 911 was an inside job.
Take a trip into the future… Obama is in court charged, the big screen has footage of GWB telling the world that he witnessed the first 911 air strike on the WTC from a school in Florida.
Question from the prosecutor: Senator Obama how could it be… the networks never broadcast it, so how did it get there, …Obama, sweatin’ a little grunts.
The Prosecutor: You are gonna be found guilty of capital treason lest you tell the court how the footage got there.
Obama: Well I guess the President’s own people had a link.
Prosecutor: Sure they did, so as a United States Senator is it not your responsibility to bring such massive treason to the attention of the wider public.
Obama: Under what jurisdiction do you propose to bring this prosecution, no one else said anything, why should I.
Prosecutor: Under the capital provisions of revolutionary justice, do you have anything else to say, because your assertion that although you were aware of treason at the White House you remained silent, despite the oath you took in the Senate to uphold the laws of the United States.
Obama: This court is illegal.
Judge: Senator Obama you are found guilty of capital treason, and are sentenced to death.
The Appellant Judge endorses the decision of the bench, the execution is to take place immediately, the court was convened on the dirt street of a western town, Obama is requested to walk under a lamp post, I fix a hemp noose about his neck and give the order to heave, and Barak Hussein Obama is hauled high on a lamp post and dies kikkin’and jerkin’ right on Main Street.
There is gonna be a lot more like him, Hillary will be tried in the same way, with Ron Schmaul and every one of other traitors, who conspired before or after the fact of 911. Where y’all gonna stand at the hangin Mister Karmakaze, cos if’n y’all wanna make a fuss, you will maybe get hanged as well as another traitor, less you can tell the court what a serving Senator’s responsibilities are in the face of treason and attack against the USA.
Sagan was the dumbest of all.
Redshift is an artifact of distance, when the light from a distant galaxy is passed thru a spectrometer it will exhibit a certain redshift, thus the absorption lines from Sulfur for instance, will be shifted toward the red end of the spectrum.
The galaxies, and blobs of light from even more distant galaxies and quasars viewed on deep field images, are all red shifted in proportion to their linear distance, whether the image was taken near either of the Earth’s poles, or from along the equator.
Sagan, Hubble and co, who cackle on about the age of the universe expressed as a percentage of it’s present age, reckon Redshift indicates the universe is expanding after the explosion of a primal atom, that could only have been located right where good ol’ Earth is today, the Big Bang hypothesis. The Big Bangers are all idiots and stretcher case retards, whose impetus is the dumbing down of America.
Redshift is the universe’s distance scale, a class of object called a BL Lacerta object has no redshift, and remains a pinprick of light on even the deepest fields, is thought to be a tunnel shot of the energy beam from the active nucleus of a quasar. Modern binocular and image stabilized telescopes have identified a rim of matter surrounding some of the BL Lacerta points of light, which does exhibit Redshift, supporting that hypothesis.
Thus viewing a distant galaxy, with a Redshift of eight, between here and there is another galaxy with a RS of four, indicating it was speeding toward the more distant place. Thus from the more distant galaxy, our galaxy, the Milky Way would similarly have a RS of eight, so too would the intervening galaxy viewed from the more distant place have a RS of four, indicating it was speeding toward us at a pretty good clip.
So it can not be speeding in both directions, can it now!!! When confronted with that, the Big Bangers start on about balloons, and expanding space, Hubble was a dictator, and the only person other than him who was allowed to look thru the two hundred inch Hale Telescope on Mount Palomar, was a mule skinner named Milton Humason, Hubble and Milt cooked up the Expanding Universe theory between the two of them, which is just so much hot air.
The Hubble Space Telescope went into orbit with an incorrectly ground primary mirror, B’s of D’s were invested in building, storing and testing the HST prior to launch, and nobody had checked to see if the primary mirror was going to work.
Where did the money go, spammers will tell you about what a great asset, and what a grand piece of hardware it is, it is not, it is a piece of junk. Who got the HST money, as well and the trillions missing from the Pentagon revealed September 10 2001.
Menahem Simhony writes: Expanding Universe: The greatest mathematical deception in Twentieth Century physics. Falsification of the Hubble-Humason Law.
Unprejudiced, and honest scientists, who observe redshift values that depend on distance, would consider factors acting on light along this distance. These factors are absorption and gravitation. The redshifts they cause are roughly proportional to the distance crossed by light, because the numbers of non-linear absorption events and of massive stars increase with distance. Hence these two phenomena fit perfectly the Hubble-Humason Law.
Unfortunately for Natural Physics, some mathematicians in physics had long before decided that the universe is expanding, therefore celestial objects must run away from us. When they found out about the Hubble-Humason Redshifts, they decided that those must be Doppler redshifts, to serve as the first and only “experimental” proof of the expansion.
That was Act 1, for internal use. In Act 2, for the public, students, and media, the argumentation was turned around, to start with the barefaced lie, that “spectra of extragalaxial nebulae show large Doppler redshifts”. Then, that “these redshifts prove that the nebulae run away from us”, hence “the universe is expanding”.
However, Doppler redshifts and blueshifts are proportional to the velocity of the emitter relative to the receiver of radiation. They have nothing to do with the distance to the emitter. Hence, Doppler redshifts do not fit the physical Hubble-Humason law of the proportionality of nebular redshifts to distance.
In Act 3, the law was therefore twisted, falsified! to say that “the runaway velocities of extragalaxial nebulae are proportional to the distances to them”. Thus, the farther a nebula the faster must the poor thing run away from us, just in order to fit the ideology.

Are you REALLY that retarded, or is it just an act?
First of all, Why would Obama be tried for Bush’s acts? Seriously, WTF? Idiot.
“Where y’all gonna stand at the hangin Mister Karmakaze, cos if’n y’all wanna make a fuss, you will maybe get hanged as well as another traitor”
Oh, I see! Freedom of Speech is a traitorous act. I’m sure King George (the original, as well as the pretender) would be in total agreement with you. Moron.
Luckily I’m not an American, because you would make me physically sick if I was. As it is you just make me laugh heartily. Thanks for that.
You know, I always used to think that the Big Bang hypothesis was some scientists’ way of avoiding the “God” question, and thus was rather skeptical of it. Now that I know YOU don’t believe it, well shit, I’m going to have to change my mind! I would rather not be on the same side of an argument as you, if I can help it.

But kids have their sex, sports and Soma, so what’s the prob?
August 3rd, 2008 at 6:55 pm
“…Why would Obama be tried for Bush’s acts.” He will not be tried for anything except treason against the USA in the matter of hos blindness to the evidence that the official story is so much BS, and for the fact that there is no airplane debris either at the Pentagon nor Shanksville… and for the fact as a United States he is paid to keep abreast of these types of things, and when ppl do raise the matter with him, he just walks away.
If you can not see that is treason well, you are either the biggest retard along with him… cos he has walked into a trap… the bad guys have to go on winning, cos the day they lose one round… say Jesse Ventura took the bull by the horns and started on with the same evidence file I present, say he won’t shut up about the Jews caught filming for instance, and Chertoffs role.
What happens to Obama then as the kids at school start on about it, where is he gonna hide cos he is still gonna have to explain his reticence up to this point.
If you want to blow his horn, it has more to do with your personal concern that you as his vocal and ardent supporter, will have to tell the court why you favor traitors.
From The Tardsville Herald
Quote: “…Science is not married to the Big Bang theory …got something that fits the evidence better.”
Look at deep fields obtained in the 1950’s by Hubble and Milt Humason with the two hundred inch Hale telescope at Mount Palomar, clear vision of galaxies extending as far as the eye could see.
Some appeared to exist in a swarm around the sub cluster at the heart of the Virgo cluster of galaxies, that included the massive elliptical, which means shaped between egg shaped and spherical, galaxy M87 that has a jet of material streaming from its core.
Others were in streamers and wisps of galaxies extending outward, until their images on Hubble’s plates were no more than pin pricks.
The fact that when the spectra of these galaxies was analyzed it revealed that the absorption lines of all the common elements were shifted toward the red end of the spectrum, the furtherest ones away, attested to by the small width of their image on the photographic plates all had greater RS than their closer counterparts whose images subtended a greater angle, which is astro talk for image width.
Then see later images obtained with better more sensitive instruments and see the tendrils and filaments of high RS galaxies extend once again to the resolving limit of the telescope, once again the more distant edge on spiral galaxies appear as a central bulge and two pointy bits extending about twice as far on the same axis, yet these galaxies are vastly more distant than Hubble’s, and yet they are in the same advanced stages of evolution as the MW.
Now in this new millennium space based and adaptive optic instruments have extended the visual limit even further, and still the same clear space and edge on spirals at the visual limit, here RS is approaching twelve which puts their rate of recession well into the supraluminal category, yeah that means faster than the speed of light, yet they are goin’ about their own business, the same as around here.
See the galaxies ever further away in every direction, and see them as neurons in the brain of God, there is no other way to describe it, it is meant in no evangelical sense, it just seems the best way to describe it.

OK, just for the fun of it, let’s say I accept that Obama is Satan incarnate. Who do you suggest should be President? McCain? Clinton? Paul? – let me guess, the latter, right?
In reply to the rest of your semi-coherent rambling, can you tell me what the Big Bang Theory has to do with Obama, and what either of them have to do with the article?
Attempting to read your screed again has raised another question in my mind. What medications are you SUPPOSED to be on, and when did you stop taking them?

Kids can’t go outside as much. A safe adult has to be with them because there are so many dangerous people in the US it is not safe for them to run and play anymore.

I like when people write their own articles in the comments that have nothing to do with the above article. I get giggly feelings when I read them.
As for my nonsense: this goes to the messenger, and anyone else who sees the idea of a “big bang” or “creation point” as “dumb pieces of sh*t”. I beleive in both of these things, as well as an infinite universe which goes through various cycles throughout eternity that happen to sync up at this “creation point”. I think that there is a place within the infinite universe where all energy is in perfect balance and harmony, not chaos striving for equilibrium. The consciousness that guides and organizes matter realizes it’s oneness in this state. Our physical world materializes and a “big bang” happens when the counsciousness fractures and a portion becomes “unbalanced”, at which point the consciousness starts organizing matter into galaxies, stars, planets, and then eventually life trying to regain the equilibrium that it once knew. Durring this process, portions of the consciousness will become entrapped in their physical selves which ultimately leads to pain at the end of the cycle because all matter will eventually get sucked into a supermassive black hole that will make time stop, and that fraction of soul will feel as if it’s being torn apart until they’re subatomic particles. However, for the portion of consciousness that was aware of the unified state of all things and was not attatched to the physical, imbalanced, world; that portion will have a smooth transition into infinite. Everything’s relative in that respect. I think that’s why we have idea’s about heaven and hell. I think everything’s right, but wrong at the same time in this current state of being. All philosophies and beleif systems have common ground somewhere, and that’s what we should all be focusing on finding; our common ground. Peace, love, and magic mushrooms…
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:44 pm
@we all know nothing
“Peace, love, and magic mushrooms…”
To quote Jamie Hyneman, “well there’s your problem!”
By the way, drug induced feelings of “oneness” and a supreme consciousness etc is related to stimulation of a certain part of your brain. That is, just like unicorns and clouds having sex, it’s an hallucination.
You don’t believe in unicorns TOO do you?

Those kids are just playing it smart. They all know from surfing the net that if they play outdoors they will be constantly under camera surveillance, they will be breathing near-fatal doses of nanoparticles from chemtrails, they will be harming the environment by exhaling CO2, and they also stand a good chance of being mistaken for Terrorists and getting themselves arrested or shot. That’s why their mums advise them to never leave the house if they can avouid it.

‘Cuddly’ Attenborough is actually a very senior figure at the BBC, and his animal docs just a sideline. He, and his film-maker brother, have always been major propagandists for the establishment, a fact often missed because of a naive view some hold over how the establishment forms its messages for the sheeple.
Want to know how the game is really played? Well some time back, the BBC had a long running show called ‘Record Breakers’. This show introduced two cuddly ‘Attenborough’ like characters, twins representing the Guinness Book of Records. What oh what could be dirty about this? Well, let me suggest you research the political background of the twins (one of whom was later offed by the IRA).
The BBC is, and always has been, an intelligence operation. No real attempt was made to hide this at the beginning. However, starting with the 1960’s, the sheeple started thinking of the BBC as independent from the government, especially as the BBC started producing the ‘popular’ entertainment more commonly associated (at the time) with ordinary commercial broadcasters.
The Attenborough’s are proud to be close personal friends of the genocidal psychopath Blair, and support his mass murder of muslims 100%. You (if you are really stupid) may find this stance at odds with the films about the life of Ghandi, and Biko, but neither film, in reality, was about Human rights. The Attenborough’s support the Fabian NWO model, which by definition requires the ending of outmoded ‘empire’ mechanisms. Understand this was the motivation behind the Biko and Ghandi choices.

“Want to know how the game is really played? Well some time back, the BBC had a long running show called ‘Record Breakers’. Well, let me suggest you research the political background of the twins (one of whom was later offed by the IRA).”
Thank you, I will.
“He was an active Conservative in the early 1960s, and fought, unsuccessfully, the seat of Edmonton in the 1964 general election. Both brothers held right-wing views on topics such as immigration, Rhodesia, South Africa, British membership of the E.E.C. and Northern Ireland. Always vigorous campaigners for their version of the liberty of the individual, they co-founded the ‘National Association for Freedom’, later ‘The Freedom Association’, in 1975. This organisation initiated legal challenges against the trade union movement in the U.K., the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND) and the European Economic Community (EEC) in Brussels.”
So, he was a right wing nutter?
“The Freedom Association is a free market libertarian pressure group pledged to support individual freedom in the United Kingdom.”
OH I see! He’s a libertarian, that’s why he was a government spy, right?
I dunno, I guess I just don’t get what you are trying to say…
So, let’s forget the twins for a moment, and focus on Attenborough.
“‘Cuddly’ Attenborough is actually a very senior figure at the BBC, and his animal docs just a sideline. He, and his film-maker brother, have always been major propagandists for the establishment, a fact often missed because of a naive view some hold over how the establishment forms its messages for the sheeple.”
“From 1965 to 1969 Attenborough was Controller of BBC Two.”
“From 1969 to 1972 he was BBC Television’s Director of Programmes (making him responsible overall for both BBC One and BBC Two), but ultimately turned down an offer of promotion that would have made him Director General of the BBC. In 1972 he resigned his post and returned to programme making.”
He resigned his management position to return to programme making, but that is somehow just a sideline? Err… OK?
As for his brother, he is an old Labour supporter and even though he disagreed on Iraq, he still supports Labour. Big surprise, seeing as the Tories were just a gungho…
I really can’t see how any of this proves the BBC is am “intelligence front”.
“Dr Kelly, whose body was found in July 2003, had been under intense pressure after being named as the suspected source of a BBC report claiming the government “sexed up” a dossier on the threat posed by Iraq. ”
“An MP investigating the death of Dr David Kelly says he is convinced the weapons scientist did not kill himself.”
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_.....390981.stm
Why do the BBC report stuff like this if they are in fact complicit in it? I’m just not seeing it.

The Super Consciousness.
the imagination is more important then most people realize, it has the power to change the world in more ways then people want you to realize, What you be leave is your world. I guess I should explain that the world is more Infinite then what you think. String theory states this. Matter is all connected, tiny strings though out connecting all things. It really Depends on what you be leave in, Do not allow others to change your options on thins, what is up and what is down. do you really know or just base what you know on what people have told you.
DO you know that this is the 4th world..and there are 9 worlds of evolution that you must go though. The trials and tribulations of each world effect you. and lead you on the path to obtain heaven.
we are on the world of suffering. and the world of the animal.

“I guess I should explain that the world is more Infinite then what you think. String theory states this. Matter is all connected, tiny strings though out connecting all things.”
Yes String Theory does suggest those things. It is totally unproven though, but whatever YOU want to “be leave” in. Objective reality is for schmucks.
“Do not allow others to change your options on thins, what is up and what is down. do you really know or just base what you know on what people have told you.”
Well, I guess that depends on the definition of “up” and “down”. In “my” universe, gravity always points towards the center of mass, which I call “down”, and I call “up” the opposite direction. I bet you do too. Oh my god, is that an objective reality? Who told you what I was thinking???
Sure we could all go around rediscovering all the objective reality around us, but to save time I allow other people, often much smarter people tell me what THEY found out. It really works. You should try it.
“DO you know that this is the 4th world..and there are 9 worlds of evolution that you must go though.”
No, I don’t know that. I know there are some mystical mumbo jumbo religions that TEACH that stuff, but I am sure YOU figured it out all by yourself, seeing as you never let anyone tell YOU what is real… right?
“The trials and tribulations of each world effect you. and lead you on the path to obtain heaven.”
Phew… I don’t believe in heaven either, so at least my beliefs are consistent!
“we are on the world of suffering. and the world of the animal.”
Well, I am an animal, and with people like you around you can be damn sure I am suffering, so that may just be the most accurate thing you have said.
