Six people accused of defaming His Majesty the King on their twitter accounts have been taken in custody pending trial, Chief Prosecutor Nayef Yusuf said.
The Public Prosecution launched an inquiry following six notifications referred by the General Directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security.
The accused were interrogated and confronted with their defamatory tweets that contravene the right to exercise freedom of expression.
“Freedom of expression is guaranteed by virtue of the constitution, law provisions and the international covenants”, Chief Prosecutor Nayef Yusuf said.
He stressed the necessity to exercise the freedom of expression and opinion objectively and without slurring people.
