The US stock market could suffer a devastating crash with shares losing a third of their value this week if Hank Paulson’s financial bailout plan fails, US Treasury officials have warned.
The financial system could face a meltdown of 1929 proportions unless US politicians succeed in their efforts for a $700bn rescue scheme, experts added.
The warning came as Republicans and Democrats met in Washington for a rare weekend debating session to attempt to seal agreement on the contentious plan, aimed at preventing a long-lasting recession in the US.

Officials close to Paulson are privately painting a far bleaker portrait of the fragility of the global economy than that advanced by President George W Bush in his televised address last week.
One Republican said that the message from government officials is that “the economy is dropping into the john.” He added: “We could see falls of 3,000 or 4,000 points on the Dow [the New York market that currently trades at around 11,000]. That could happen in just a couple of days.
“What’s being put around behind the scenes is that we’re looking at 1930s stuff. We’re looking at catastrophe, huge, amazing catastrophe. Everybody is extraordinarily scared. It’s going to be really, really nasty.”

Keep buying gold folks and liquidate everything you have in the stock market. There will be a “suckers” rally, take advantage of it and get as much gold as you possibly can. U.S. ‘will lose status’ on world stage
The world is witnessing nothing less than the decline of an empire as the United States loses its position as the globe’s pre-eminent financial “superpower,” according to finance minister from the Group of Seven most-industrialized countries.
In a blistering attack on Washington yesterday, the German Finance Minister branded the U. S. government “irresponsible,” and blamed it for worsening the crisis that has engulfed the international banking system by thwarting efforts of G7 countries to enact tighter regulation.
“The world will never be the same again,” Germany’s Peer Steinbruck said.
“The U. S. will lose its status as the superpower of the world financial system,” the Finance Minister said.
The extraordinary attack on the U. S. financial model was a stinging rejection of a personal appeal from Hank Paulson for his fellow G7 ministers to stand behind him as U. S. Treasury Secretary during a historic turning point. The response of ministers from Canada and other G7 ministries “has been very disappointing to Mr. Paulson, who was hoping for something more robust,” said Gary Hufbauer, a former U. S. Treasury official.
Jim Flaherty, the Canadian Finance Minister, was offered the opportunity during an editorial board meeting with the National Post this week to differentiate himself from other G7 ministers who have been critical or offered only tepid support to the U. S. Treasury Secretary. But Mr. Flaherty, who is in the midst of a general election, declined, pointing to a joint statement by ministers.
“All of the G7 finance ministers have agreed to support individually and collectively in their own countries these steps being taken by the U. S. and to take necessary similar actions in their own jurisdictions if necessary. It is not necessary in Canada,” he said.
While there was general disappointment in Washington with the response of foreign governments, the former Treasury official said European leaders appeared to be the most hostile. The German Minister said that at key moments in the crisis, Washington had defended ” laissez-faire capitalism; the notion that markets should be as free as possible from regulation. These arguments were wrong and dangerous.”
“This largely under-regulated system is collapsing today,” said Mr. Steinbruck, predicting the emergence of regional financial centres in Asia and Europe.
Mr. Hufbauer said the rift between G7 ministries would likely have ramifications for international economic relations for years to come.

Working 70 hours a day might be something that Americans are proud of, but in Holland it would be seen as a sign of weakness. Because it shows a lack of bravery to fight for your rights and fair working conditions. Of course the bankers and lying politicians want nothing better then slaves that work as long as possible, since that means greater profits. Don’t be a slave ! America thinks it is ahead, but actually we in Europe believe that America is way behind in terms of worker rights: little to no protection from firing by company bosses, no minimum wage to speak of right ? not been able to secure decent working hours maximum, and so on, very dramatic health insurance situation, hardly any or no worker power, poor worker organization, a politics that is way over to the what we call “right” (which in Holland means the people who favor wealth disparity, exploitation and so on). From our perspective the USA has been leading the way down in the west, and it has been the shining example for our own lying politicians and bankers for many decades.
On the other hand it is possible that we got more decent conditions here because the elites were afraid we would go to the sovjet union side, a danger greater here then in the USA (danger to them I mean). In that context our rights are not from our own making. But I think that does not cover it, take a look at revolutionary history in Europe. We are incomparably more rebellious to our exploitive elites then the USA public has been over the last centuries IMHO. It sometimes seems as if the USA still think we got monarchy and christion opression here, because that`s what we had when the first Americans left toward the west.
But regardless of the causes for a difference USA/W.Europe: poor working conditions are something to fight against, which is the point. No matter what the reasons for the differences, you should all start today by demanding a mandatory 40 or even 36 hour working week, and a decent minimum hourly wage. Compared with 200 years ago we are swimming in labor saving machines. But the proceeds won`t reach you until you start striking for them in large majority. Get people elected who support the right to strike and so on. Unless you fight for the profit from your own hand, the robber bankers won’t give it to you. Actually is some of them did that would put them out of business quickly (which is the reason you should even nationalize investment banking.)
We are on a downward slide here as our rights are concerned by the way. Europe also has to fight for its labor rights again, increase that pressure. Our leaders are always trying to copy the American mode of exploitation, and they are making progress with that.
Americans are often told they are the best place in the world, but you are usually comparing yourselves only with the worst in the world like vicious dictatorships, and not with the better places that exist. It is a trick by the politicians to make Americans believe they are doing great relatively, and concequently have no business asking for more. Why does your dad work 70 hours, while rich kids don’t work at all, while the people who are in banking get the profit of such businesses without working ? America needs to get some sense of balance: doing nothing is bad, but doing nothing but working (like 70 hours) is also bad. If you don’t fight for a better life, who will do it for you: chances are it will get progressively worse until you do rise up and demand your fair wage (which by the way is a law in the Torah, you are actually breaking Torah law by working too much and getting too little).
Start striking and repel strike breakers with whatever it takes. Striking has a great history of working, but it must be embedded in a wider understanding that there must be a decent life in society for everyone. If you don`t have that the government/bankers will be able to break strikes with army and police and defeat you.

One of the psychological effects of fear is that it ‘disables’ the higher cognitive functions of the neocortex, (the brain of higher mammals which controls higher-order thinking skills, reason, speech, and sapience) and have one fall back on the R-complex, also known as the “Reptilian Brain”. The term comes from the fact that a reptile’s brain is dominated by the brain stem and cerebellum which controls instinctive survival behavior and thinking. This is similar in humans. This brain controls the muscles, balance and autonomic functions (e.g. breathing and heartbeat); thus it is primarily reactive to direct stimuli.

At the same time, Congress, using its Constitutional authority, must issue trillions of dollars in low-interest credit for earmarked infrastructure projects, in the vital interest of the nation. We need high-speed rail and maglev, nuclear power, water management, new hospitals, repairs on our bridges and roads. These kinds of projects should be financed through capital budgeting, authorized by Congress at 1-2 percent interest.”
LaRouche said, “And at the same time, the United States, Russia, China and India must take the lead in convening a treaty conference to establish a new international financial system, based on fixed exchange rates, along the conceptual lines of what Franklin Roosevelt did in 1944 with the original Bretton Woods System. We can and must put the bankrupt current international financial system through bankruptcy reorganization, and launch, on a global scale, what I have proposed with the domestic capital investment in massive infrastructure.”
LaRouche noted that prominent Italian officials have voiced their support for the convening of such a New Bretton Woods conference, and Russian leaders, including President Medvedev and Prime Minister Putin, have voiced similar support, particularly if the United States takes the lead.
“So no one in good faith,” LaRouche concluded, “can honestly claim that the current bailout scheme on the table of Paulson, Frank and Dodd is the only option. It is not the only option. The US plan will allow taxpayers to profit from a recovery of the financial sector in the months and years ahead by giving the government an equity stake in companies that seek aid.
The speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, said: “All of this was done in a way to insulate main street and everyday Americans from the crisis on Wall Street.

Didn’t Christ warn us for false Christians, wolfs in sheep-clothing and didn’t he tell us that he would denounce all fake Christians. People should study the true original teaching, uncorrupted by the later abuses of man, not let them tell what others want to be regarded as pure doctrine.

The DOW could loose 4000 points in a single day of trading??? This sounds odd. Someone correct me if I’m wrong but doesn’t the DOW shut down automatically if it drops more than 500 points in a day? When I traded stocks in 1999 that was the rule. It was specifically put into place to stop major crashes.

I was just talking to my dad about this, and I was trying to get to the bottom of the fact that he said its like supply and demand. Put more supply in the economy(money) and demand goes down. Meaning the value of the dollar is going to go down. Considering that there isnt any gold/silver left in the federal reserve to prove the value of the dollar since the 70’s, the value is already worth nothing. But if because of the supply going up, the value of teh dollar going down, the prive of living is going up also. But like I said about supply and demand, technically, the supply is going up, and so is demand if the prices of living is also going up. In reality, no one is going to use the dollar to its worth, which is nothing. Who really is going to walk into a store and try to buy 50 dollars wirth of groceries for 10 dollars? Considering the fact that the value of te dollar is based on faith, which it has been for decades now, I could very well walk into a store and say that. People believe that a 1 dollar bill is worth 1 dollar because we make it be that way. The banks, stores, people in general believe its worth because we have kept it that way since the dollar replaced gold/silver coins. Value doesn’t have to go down if we don’t make it. I know it really doesn’t have anything to do with what everyone else is saying, but I wanted to get my word out there somehow. I’m 18 years old, I’ve been researching ALL of the conspiracy theories for a long time now. My father and his best friend opened my eyes to what the world and government REALLY is. I wish my words could make others believe what this government is doing to us. Become self-sufficient if you can, its the best thing you can do for yourself in this day in age.

I just resigned from the company Blackwater because I didn’t believe in the direction they are now heading. Word is Blackwater will be part of a Martial Law Plan that is in the works by our Neo-Con controlled government. They are mobilizing imediately and are combining with the Army and National Gaurd for urgent duty. I’ve seen the barbedwire camps with the tents ready to be put up. Based on current market levels, a 1200 point decline in the DJIA would trigger a 1 hour timeout from trading, if the break occurs before 2pm.
Assuming that threshold is breached in morning trading, a 2400 point decline before 1pm would trigger a 2 hour timeout.
Expect both levels to be exceeded in coming weeks.
A 3600 point decline would close the market for the day.

For a good example of what we’re now facing do a web search on Long Term Capital Management. This hedge fund collapsed in 1998 suffering from highly leveraged positions in a number of markets.
When a financial entity is faced with large losses due to unusual market conditions, they are often forced to liquidate their holdings at unfavorable prices. This sets a market value for the securities that is much lower than recent trading levels. These losses then define a loss of value for other entities holding various types of investment securities, which in turn puts pressure on them to liquidate. The result is a cascading series of losing trades which pull markets the world over into the abyss.
Banks faced with loss of equity on their loans and investments will halt payment to other banks and halt withdrawals to depositors. Within hours the entire worldwide financial community may lock down and refuse to release their assets to anyone.
It’s important to realize that in the current situation, these leveraged investments, known as derivatives, have a synthetic value in the tens of trillions USD. The $700B bailout funds, which don’t even exist as real money, would be vaporized within minutes if a global crash were to occur.
It would be prudent to have some cash available at home to purchase necessities during the coming national emergency.

tobias me thinks there is something we can do. get a petition started ( a legal draft ) that states in no uncertain times what we “the people” want along with a time line that each part realisticly can be done. Have the majority of the population sign it, then take the huge stack in front of congress and state our business. they the government have no choice but comply. this will take some thought on our part and needs to be non-threatening, but if they do not comply they will either have to resign or be removed. the latter part of this is the danger in this and if it is not well thought out on the front end it could show incompentence on america’s part. sort of a boston tea party…

i actually find this period of history that is being created now very exciting. Most Americans know that they are being lied to. It is accepted now. I see the failing banks as a good thing as they will try to fix it and it will fail anyways and people will actually be affected.
I went to Best Buy on a Wednesday, it was packed. People know they are being lied to about everything in the government but I do not think they believe it is an actual recession until they cant buy an ipod or cereal at the store.
It is going to take shelves being empty for people to really get energized to do something.
When people can not buy stuff that is when people start to flip out and actually do something.
Until then we should all just start preparing for it as I really think its all coming down.
Get your family safe, food and water and wait for the collapse and ensuing madness.
Get ready for a revolution that you are going to not only be a part of but one that is starting now.

We need to replace our freezer, so I was checking out some small chest models. I spoke to two appliance dealers and both said there is a run on freezers. The manufacturers can hardly keep up with the demand. People are starting to get a clue that they had better set aside some basics for survival.
Tip: Put your storage food in different types of containers in different parts of the house & garage. It isn’t a good idea to have it ALL in a freezer or ALL in mason jars or ALL dehydrated, etc., nor should you have it ALL in the garage or kitchen, etc. If a disaster—man-made or natural—happened and part of your house was destroyed, by having your food and water spread around you’d at least have part of it left.
