Barack Obama, the US president, has expressed his shock and outrage over the fatal shooting of a doctor who provided late-term abortions in Kansas.
Dr. George Tiller, who has suffered decades of protests and attacks, was shot and killed on Sunday in a church where he was serving as an usher.
The gunman fled, but a 51-year-old suspect was arrested 170 miles away in Kansas City three hours after the shooting, Tom Stolz, the Wichita deputy police chief, said.

Police named their suspect as Scott Roeder, 51. The man, who as not yet been charged but is being questioned, was stopped in his car some 30 miles from Kansas City, Missouri.
In 2007, a man with the same name left a message on the Operation Rescue website thanking those who had prayed to “bring justice to Tiller and [for] the closing of his death camp”.
