The BBC is being investigated by television watchdogs after a leading climate change sceptic claimed his views were deliberately misrepresented.
Lord Monckton, a former adviser to Margaret Thatcher, says he was made to look like a ‘potty peer’ on a TV programme that ‘was a one-sided polemic for the new religion of global warming’.
Earth: The Climate Wars, which was broadcast on BBC 2, was billed as a definitive guide to the history of global warming, including arguments for and against.
(Article continues below)
During the series, Dr Iain Stewart, a geologist, interviewed leading climate change sceptics, including Lord Monckton. But the peer complained to Ofcom that the broadcast had been unfairly edited.
‘I very much hope Ofcom will do something about this,’ he said yesterday.
‘The BBC very gravely misrepresented me and several others, as well as the science behind our argument. It is a breach of its code of conduct.
‘I was interviewed for 90 minutes and all my views were backed up by sound scientific data, but this was all omitted. They made it sound as if these were just my personal views, as if I was some potty peer. It was caddish of them.’
Ofcom confirmed it was looking into a ‘fairness complaint’ about the documentary.
A BBC spokesman said: ‘We stand by the programme.’

Lord Monckton: “I was interviewed for 90 minutes and all my views were backed up by sound scientific data, but this was all omitted. They made it sound as if these were just my personal views”
Typical way to marginalise people’s views. The idea is to mock a point of view rather than to actually deal with it. It doesn’t matter if 95% of the populace has direct first-hand evidence of something, it is still portrayed as a one’s odd-ball loony “feelings” or “assertions” or “claims.”
“Despite the Ministry of Truth’s many proofs, Mr Smith, still held to his peculiar belief that ‘one and one makes two.’”
“I can see that one and one is two,” Smith claimed. Government experts, however, realise the situation isn’t so simple.”
“Many subversives and thoughtcriminals held to their feeling that one plus one was this or that, but officials and authorities have many times – over the years – refuted such incorrect notions,” stated Party Leader O’Brien.
Etc.

Lord Monckton needs no help from the media in presenting himself as a “potty peer”, take for example this link:

Isn’t it about time that those in denial about the human causes of global warming finally accepted that they are wrong and merely the patsies of oil companies and those who insist upon parading their pen*s substitute SUVs at the expense of any real ethical concern for anything but their own egos?

Hey rich
you’re a dumb ass! Why is it getting colder if global warming is man made?

It’s about time you liars found out some facts and asked some sensible questions of yourselves like who’s driving SUV’s around the solar system as all the planets are exhibiting signs of extreme Climate Change. That would be because it’s the Sun of course. Duh! There’s only like endless evidence of the Sun driving Climate and none for any man made conclusion. Even the head of the IPCC has admitted the temperature hasn’t gone up in the last 10 years. And it’s freezing here… again.

Suggest that you learn some more about the shortterm effects of ozone depletion (which leads to temporary cooling) and the longterm effects of global warming (which will continue regardless) instead of listening to the idiots employed to spread disinformation by Exxonmobil. The apparent cooling now has no bearing on the catastrophic events in process, indeed, it is a sideffect of them that is often mistaken as a contradiction by those who do not wish to explore the full implications.

Regardless, my point was about Monckton not needing help to look a prat – so here’s another gem from his lips:
In an article entitled “The Myth of Heterosexual AIDS”, written for the January 1987 issue of The American Spectator, he argued that “there is only one way to stop AIDS. That is to screen the entire population regularly and to quarantine all carriers of the disease for life. Every member of the population should be blood-tested every month … all those found to be infected with the virus, even if only as carriers, should be isolated compulsorily, immediately, and permanently.” This would involve isolating between 1.5 and 3 million people in the United States (”not altogether impossible”) and another 30,000 people in the UK (”not insuperably difficult”)
I would suggest anyone worried about Human Rights in the world, microchips, id cards, etc. look very carefully at this man’s attitudes before choosing to champion him.

Good call on “Viscount” Monckton, Richard! I didn’t know that about the weirdo.
These aristocrats are all the same – stooges of the Crown and City of London. That is how their blue blood lines survive!
Often they are found posturing outside-the-box, but this all a farce.
“Lord” Monckton, like “Lord” Melchett of Greenpeace, like “Lord” Nigel Lawson, like the saintly “Sir” Bob Geldof – these gangsters are all Controlled Opposition.
They give the appearance of railing against the system, but invariably they are actually working within it.

That would be the Ozone depletion caused by atmospheric nuclear tests covered up by a fake Ozone hole story so they could change from a lapsed CFC patent to a new CFC2 patent? Shorterm Cooling, Longterm Global Warming… what are you talking about? It’s just endless nonsense from you people. You haven’t got a genuine argument AT ALL. Not a single one. Good for a laugh and that’s it. If we stopped ALL CO2 emmission worldwide we still only take out 0.0014ppm. It’s utter nonsense.
September 29th, 2008 at 1:44 am
PS. CO2 may even be part of a Cooling Mechanism.

Ian Stewart is a spiteful, arrogant and haughty creature, who can never be proven wrong. That’s why Auntie Beeb loves him so much and features him regularly as a stand-in ’scientist’ on various and often Open University funded Documentaries. Infact, I will go further, ‘because of the unique way the BBC is funded’ it can afford to be populated by stuffed up arrogant ponces whose relationship to the real world must be brought into question.

Hey Old World Order
Get your facts straight before you start your slandering. If I wanted to listen to stupidity I would have joined your forum. If you want to keep living in an illusion go right ahead but, stop distracting others that are trying to find the truth and save your butt!!

Old World Order-
How come you can’t sign your real name?
September 29th, 2008 at 6:05 pm
How can this be biased when Monckton is a ‘potty peer’? He is a right wing scum bag who holds no climate related qualifications and has never made a point that cant easilly be refuted by climate scientists. This is the biggest threat to life on Earth for at least 50 million years and economists want you to keep buying stuff – THEY ARE SCUM and so is anyone who supports them (the Watsons?)

Quote from Ivor Legoff…
‘Ian Stewart is a spiteful, arrogant and haughty creature, who can never be proven wrong. That’s why Auntie Beeb loves him so much and features him regularly as a stand-in ’scientist’ on various and often Open University funded Documentaries. In fact, I will go further, ‘because of the unique way the BBC is funded’ it can afford to be populated by stuffed up arrogant ponces whose relationship to the real world must be brought into question.’
Absolutely right – it is a disgrace the way taxpayers’ money is wasted by the BBC. They produce some good programs but also a lot of trash and the UK public should NOT be forced to pay them a licence fee. I much prefer Aljazeera for fairness, balance and investigations in depth instead of sound bites.
As for climate change – it’s the new religion and its converts are as fervent and bigotted as any religious fanatic, any opposing views are blasphemy to them.
