Black Bloc Provocateurs Set Strasbourg Hotel on Fire

“Protesters demonstrating against a NATO summit in Strasbourg set fire to a hotel in the city near the river Rhine on Saturday, AFP journalists witnessed.”
Described as “hardline,” the Black Bloc provocateurs, “armed with metal bars,” also wrecked a wrecked a chapel, a pharmacy, an empty police post and other buildings at the French end of the Europe bridge connecting Strasbourg with Germany, according to AFP.
In order to demonize the anti-NATO protests as the work of violent “anarchists” (agents provocateurs), the New York Times described participants as “a mix of anti-globalization and anti-military activists (who) set a hotel and border post on fire, while riot police used tear gas to keep them back.”

Sky News (owned by Rupert Murdoch) reports: “Some of the protesters — throwing rocks — tried to storm a massive police blockade at the Pont d’Anvers bridge, and were driven back by water cannon, tear gas, flash bombs and rubber bullets.”
The BBC filed a video report highlighting the staged violence.
Police used the staged violence as an excuse to arrest demonstrators. “Police later detained dozens of demonstrators, lying them face down on the ground before hauling them away,” Sky News reports elsewhere. “Journalists were stopped by police from approaching the campsite area… The campsite had been set up to house demonstrators during the two-day talks.”
As noted in the video here, the legitimate anti-NATO protesters are determined to use non-violent civil disobedience to block the summit. In order to provide an excuse to use batons and rubber bullets against them, agents provocateurs masquerading as Black Bloc anarchists have been dispatched with instructions to burn down hotels and vandalize churches.
Earlier in the week, “anarchist” agents provocateurs were dispatched during the G20 with orders to smashed up the Royal Bank of Scotland. The corporate media used images of this vandalism to demonize non-violent demonstrators.
“The British authorities seemed to have little problem with allowing a group of violent black bloc anarchists to smash up the RBS building while provoking police yesterday, despite the group announcing their target in advance, yet a legitimate anti-poverty organization has had its ‘accreditation’ to protest at the G20 removed on the orders of Downing Street,” wrote Paul Joseph Watson on April 2. The authorities “knew that the building was a prime target, and yet it was the only one in the street not boarded up. A cafe across the street was boarded up and yet the RBS building was left completely vulnerable to attack.”

I don’t doubt that such “false flag” tactics have previously been used in these mass protest events, but this article fails to highlight any evidence that these “agents provocateurs” are in fact police/ government agents. I’m playing the role of sceptic here because I feel it’s important that such statements are backed up by solid facts or at least supported by some solid circumstantial evidence.

Yes, we can’t go running around making accusations that can’t be backed up. However, in England at least, it is fairly easy to say, at the very least, the Government allowed the Bank of Scotland to be attacked.
They knew it was coming and did nothing.

Agreed, that much is obvious, but where is the evidence that they were “dispatched” as the article says. I mean it WAS admitted that they were on Bush’s farewell tour to the UK. I’m not slating the article but it would be genuinely useful to uncover some more information regarding this. I have a friend who used to engage in such anti-capitalist anarchist rioting and he says that these people are basically ill informed morons. We can’t deny that these arrogant, opportunist and relatively stupid people actually exist, but the article leads one to to the conclusion that they are all insiders. Am I reading this wrong? In order to inform people on the nature of our current authoritarian state we need to have EVIDENCE in our armoury…otherwise we are on very shaky ground. It would be better, for now at least before further information comes out, to be content with stating the very real and disturbing fact that they were ALLOWED to do what they did. There were as many photographers as rioters there…it’s so transparrent it’s almost funny!

The bottom line is, these types of events give advantage to certain groups and individuals to try and create mear in the masses.
Moscow bombings, 9/11, 7/7, Mumbai and others, were all orchestrated by the people in power to solidify their advantage. Wait until the internet is under control and your chipped so that 1984 can come nice and close to you, the robot.
“Democracy” is a sham, just a cover to put the insiders in place while they do nothing that helps the average man or woman … rather helping themselves to everyman’s labour, wealth and property while lying andcheating as they go.

even though i largely approve of the tactics used in london, i have to say that this act is strasburg was CLEARLY provocateured. the fact that it was a hotel where non-participant, innocent men, women, and children would be staying, is enough evidence that a true black bloc action this was not.

Many reports say hundreds of people smashed windows and burned shit. Are you saying there are hundreds of cops that rather burn and smash windows than try to defend those elitist pigs? Will anyone here ever think that maybe some people would rather just smash shit than stand around?

pretty juvenille. smashing shit isn’t the goal friend. it’s actually using direct action against the real culprits. if you can tell me that the sheraton or whatever hotel it was is somehow the most important symbol of what we’re opposing in that town, i will agree with you. trouble is, you can’t. it’s not a choice between standing around, and completely wasting your time while in the same instant not winning yourself any allies. i will say that this site increasingly uses blanket charges that all such actions are provocateured without much more evidence than an assertion. as i’ve posted before, provocateurs are a reality, but this site attempts to discredit all such actions by contending that they are all provocateured. as to the reason those who write for this site do that? who knows? i suspect that it’s because they don’t want to have an actual debate about pacifism versus a willingness to defend ourselves by any means. this is a funny thing because i thought that was what the second ammendment was for.

It is actually unclear if demonstrators or police set this hotel on fire.
The police used tear gas and fireworks from a helicopter.Some witnesses say the building started to set alight from the roof.At least clearly,the Police let it happened and however no firefighters came to the rescue.
