The House of Representatives passed a sweeping climate-change bill Friday – a major victory for President Barack Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that left Republicans fuming about a “national energy tax” they said would exacerbate the nation’s economic woes.
The vote was extremely close – 219-212, with eight Republicans voting yes and 44 Democrats voting no. And the debate leading up to it was intense.
In the hours before passage, Rep. Geoff Davis, a Republican from Kentucky, said the cap-and-trade bill represented the “economic colonization of the heartland” by New York and California. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) called the bill a “scam” that would do nothing but satisfy “the twisted desires of radical environmentalists.” Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wisc.) called it a “massive transfer of wealth” from the United States to foreign countries.
Democratic Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio countered that, without the bill, the United States would remain energy-dependent on people who want to “fly planes into our buildings.”
Republicans accused the Democrats of ramming the bill through the House. Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.), managing the debate for his party, asked repeatedly if there was even a copy of the current version of the bill anywhere in the House chamber. Democratic Rep. House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) slowed Democrats’ attempt to pass a sweeping climate-change legislation Friday evening, reading page-by-page through a 300-page Democratic amendment before allowing a roll call vote.
It was a House version of a Senate filibuster – and a way to protest the addition of the 300-page managers’ amendment at 3 a.m. Friday.
Republicans say Democrats are ramming their climate-change legislation through the House without enough time for members to read the bill — let alone to understand it — all in violation of their promises about creating a more transparent legislative process.
Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.), running the debate for his party, asked repeatedly Friday afternoon if there was even a copy of the current version of the bill anywhere in the House chamber. Democratic Rep. Ellen Tauscher – sitting in the speaker’s chair although she’s already been confirmed as Obama’s undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security — repeatedly dodged the question.
House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-Calif.), one of the bill’s sponsors, interrupted Boehner’s filibuster with a parliamentary inquiry as to whether there was any limit to how long the Ohio Republican could speak – and suggested that he was hoping to talk so long that member might leave before the vote.
“It’s the custom of the House to hear the leader’s remarks,” replied Tauscher, who looking apologetic as Republicans applauded.
“Reclaiming my time,” Boehner said, “the gentleman’s had his 30 years to put this bill together. And the House is going to spend a whopping five hours debating the most profound piece of legislation to come to this floor in 100 years. And the chairman has the audacity to drop a 300-plus page amendment in the hopper at 3:09 a.m. this morning. And so I would ask my colleagues, don’t you think the American people expect us to understand what’s in this bill before we vote on it?”
“And so to get to page 34,” he continued.

Inhofe: Senate Will Not Pass Cap-and-Trade
Oklahoma senator cites recent trend against global warming legislation; dismisses House efforts and claims EPA action to impose it can be stalled.

Not too long ago, global warming activism in the U.S. Capitol made some sort of carbon cap-and-trade legislation seem like a near certainty. But the tide may be turning.
According to Sen. James Inhofe, R-Okla., the ranking Republican of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, a key committee needed for passage of a cap-and-trade bill, the trend indicates it can’t pass, at least in the U.S. Senate. He explained that the House, under the leadership of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, will pass anything, but it takes both houses of Congress for it to become law.
“I want to tell you what’s going to happen from this point forward in my opinion,” Inhofe said at the Heartland Institute’s Third International Conference on Climate Change in Washington, D.C. on June 2. “First of all, the House will pass anything. Nancy Pelosi has the votes to pass anything. Don’t be distressed when you see the House passes some kind of cap-and-trade bill. And you know it could be worse [than the proposed bill] and she could still pass it, so it’ll pass there.”
One possibility some have suggested is that the Environmental Protection Agency would impose cap-and-trade regulations under the Clean Air Act, a law that gives the EPA authority to regulate pollution in the name of protecting the nation’s air quality. That according to Inhofe can be stalled until President Barack Obama leaves office.
“The EPA has threatened to regulate this through the Clean Air Act,” Inhofe explained. “That isn’t going to work in my opinion because we can stall that until we get a new president – that shouldn’t be a problem.”
But, the key component of the legislative process under these circumstances would be the U.S. Senate. Inhofe pointed to a measure that would require any climate treaty to include developing nations to self-impose the carbon restrictions for the United States to also go along with it.
“While the House will pass the bill … in the Senate, they’re not going to be able to pass it,” Inhofe said. “You guys – it’s just not going to happen. Now we have a history of what’s happened in the Senate. We had the 1997 Kyoto Protocol. Remember that’s where we passed by a 94-1, I think it was, saying we don’t want to ratify any treaty – the Senate doesn’t – that doesn’t include developing nations with developed nations. Well, that stuck with us.”
Inhofe explained that in 2003 and 2005, he was able to nearly single-handedly take down a bill sponsored by Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., and Joseph Liebermann, I-Conn., which would have set a cap-and-trade system in place.
“Yet, with very popular people, like McCain and Liebermann coming up in ’03 and then again in ’05 – the reason I’m going to tell you that they don’t have the votes, it’s not going to pass is that in ’05, that’s when I was on the floor for eight hours a day, five days, or about 10 hours a days, 50 hours – is that only two senators would come to the floor that would help me with this because I was taking on McCain and Liebermann on this silly issue.”
But, in 2008 with a similar bill sponsored by Sens. Liebermann and John Warner, R-Va., he had gained significant support compared to his 2003 and 2005 efforts, showing a trend that passage of this type of bill is becoming increasingly more difficult.
“And you fast forward to one year ago today, 2008 – Warner-Liebermann,” Inhofe said. “It didn’t take five days, it took two days – 23 senators came down to help me out on this issue, because I told [California Democratic Sen.] Barbara Boxer to you know, get over it, get a life. You lost, we won.”
The Oklahoma senator credited the Founding Fathers, noting that the senate rules put in place are a difficult obstacle for the global warming activists in the federal government to overcome.
“It will pass in the House, in the Senate it will not pass,” Inhofe continued. “And her latest vote and she won’t admit this, but it’s 34 votes and it takes 60 votes in the Senate. Maybe the people who wrote our constitution knew what they were talking about.”

Sadly, in my militaristic views, we will have to wait for the militias to move. If the armed revolt do not have militia support, i’m convinced a revolt will be struck down. Thats why we need to join up with them and convince them to prepare. If you cannot join, offer financial support but only if they vow to make certain strategic moves. The armed revolt movement wouldnt even have to make a violent strike. All would that would have to happen is to have each state’s militia unite together and take strategic points around the capital in Washington DC. Take control of road ways in and out of the city, and just wait for negotiations. An armed revolt of that magnitude would constist of atleast a million. Granted the armed civilians and militas of the US unite. Washington would have to negotiate; of course then we would place government officials of our choosing and strike down illegal and unjust legislation. The US military wouldnt even be an issue, such an advance by militia and civilian resistance would be very discouraging against a force of around 400,000. The US military today is quite small and spread out. Most of the US military wold more likely join the revolt rather than oppose their neighbors, friends, and family. MUCH would be accomplished in this scenario, most likely with out a shot fired. Which brings me to my first point. Get the militias support for a revolt and we will have our new independance day. An independance from a new tryanny. The banks.

I find your “science” hard to swallow. It seems that added pollution/particulates in the atmosphere would actually cool the planet down considerably, due to the decrease in sunlight the planet absorbs. As a matter of fact, the earth absorbs more energy from the sun in three minutes than all of mankind produces in an entire year. So, how long has mankind been on the planet? Not very long at all, in the scheme of things. Take a good hard look at the calender Carl Sagan came up with, we’re not even a little tiny second in time compared to the age of the earth. I’m not saying that we should be burning fossil fuels anymore, that’s obviously the greedy bastards with money invested in oil. We should be using hemp for methanol, and not cutting down trees for paper as 1 acre of hemp produces the same amount as four acres of trees. Hydrogen would be an excellent start.
But saying that mankind is as fault for warming the planet is coo-coo puffs. The sun will do what she has done for billions of years before us and billions of years after. There are fluctuations in the sun and earth that have caused both warming and cooling. Dude, what kind of CO2 output can man possibly produce compared to just one (1) volcano, not to mention the billions of tons of other noxious gasses that spew out. One thing is for sure regardless of your “theory” or not…taxing us more is not going to help a goddamn thing. That takes the cake as the most preposterous bullshit these Al Gore leftist have ever come up with.

well, at least they made it official today in the house. they declared war on american citizens today. taxing the gas that every one of us emits when we exhale? really? sounds like a declaration of war to me. the american dream is now officially dead. it has been happening for years, but now it is official. now no one will be able to challenge the big corporations. there is no possible way to compete with them. this bill was 100% about hurting the citizens and giving it all to the corporations and big bankers. there is still a (very slight) chance to stop this in the senate. i have looked at revolution as a last resort. i always knew it was the most likely outcome, but should be a last resort. make them fire the first shot. if this passes in the senate, there is no going back. they will have fired the first shot.

Like I said before. You cap millions of tons of CO2 underground, and sooner or later its going to belch to the surface and kill everyone around it as CO2 is heavier than O2. I think these morons got their degrees from the “WHAT A GREAT IDEA” spam. Just the other day everyone was crying about how hot it was here in Chicago, and saying global warming this, and global warming that. Even on TV they were saying hottest temps in 4 years. What they fail to tell people is that the record temp for that day was set in 1930, 79 years ago. Meanwhile the persistent contrails comprised of whatever you choose to believe connect in the sky forming fake clouds that keep the sky a nice light silverish blue. Water vapor is the #1 greenhouse gas, the rest are statistically insignificant. Since the solar activity sunspot wise has been cut by 1/2 or even 2/3 over the last few years, it’s probably necessary to make it hotter than it would be to make us submit to this crap. But what this legislation really does is make energy more expensive and then give that money to the welfare cases and that is total bullshit.

In areas like Ohio where 92% of electricity comes from coal or nuclear does this mean that we will have to shut down 60% of our powerplants to reach 20%? Or will we have to build EXTREMELY inefficient solar or wind here? Ohio is terrible for solar and even worse for wind. Hydro is maxxed out. Are we forced to choose between rolling blackouts, electricity rationing, or completely unaffordable renewable power now?

What if I can’t afford to renovate my home? Are they going to kick me out, fine me, jail me, asset forfeiture? Am I going to be forced to buy carbon offsets to balance out my “inefficient” home? How is this going to be enforced, home inspections? I assume that they will be following the bill of rights and getting a warrant specifying the specific places to be search and that will be signed by a judge and supported by sworn affidavit showing probably cause… right?

If you are are a People of the state you were born in then you are a sovereign and NO legislated law applies to you. If you are a Citizen of the United States under the 14th amendment “all persons born…in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof….” then the government has jurisdiction over you (all legislated laws apply), i.e. you have privileges not rights. The People established the government, the government rules over its Citizens, don’t you want to be a People rather than a Citizen?
Citzens have no rights to keep and bear arms, free speech, privacy against search and sizure, etc. Everything is applied to you with your permission. You signed a 1040 “under penalty of perjury” and thus signed away your rights or did you put “under duress”, or “without prejudice” above your sig.
Any mention of Law in the constitution of the United States or the individual States refers to the supreme law-the Common law. There is only 1 basic rule under Common Law “you are liable for any injury you cause to another flesh and blood man/woman/child” . With victimless crimes under legislated law there is NO injured party, yet it’s always the People of [State] vs YOU. Where’s the plaintiff (complaining party)? Does the Prosecuter have a signed power of atty. from any People to represent them? Of course a man in a uniform will use his gun to kidnap you but you have the right and just cause to sue him for fraud and under Title 18, 242 he is liable for any trespass against your person that isn’t lawful. Put down the mouse,remote,beer, whatever, pick up the phone, call your representative and demand a halt to this insane legislation before America is no more. This bill will break the back of the American working class and what’s left of the manufacturing infrastructure.
It is yet another tax that will never go away and do no good. And add to the fact 309 or so pages were added and there wasn’t time to analyze them. So we probably will be getting something we really don’t want. This ram-rod legislation needs to end.

Obama implores Senate to pass climate bill (June 27, 2009)
In this, you’ll notice the recycled terms that were used in the “need” to pass the ‘Stimulus’ bill.
“My call to every senator, as well as to every American, is this,” he said. “We cannot be afraid of the future. And we must not be prisoners of the past. Don’t believe the misinformation out there that suggests there is somehow a contradiction between investing in clean energy and economic growth.” That is a huge contradiciton! Gov’ts don’t create jobs. Business creates jobs.
Obama said the bill would create jobs (just like ’stimulus’ did?), make renewable energy profitable and decrease America’s dependence on foreign oil (borrowing from Bush speeches now?).
“It will spur the development of low-carbon sources of energy — everything from wind, solar and geothermal power to safer nuclear energy and cleaner coal (no such thing),” he said.
Wind, solar and geothermal are already available! They don’t need to be developed! They need to be utilized! Iceland has been using geothermal for years and it powers and warms the entire city of Reykjavik.
“In California alone, Obama said, 3,000 people will be employed to build a new solar plant that will create 1,000 permanent jobs.”
Whoppee-do. That means 2,000 people will be out of work – again, after it’s built. California is already at a record 11.5% unemplyment rate. Owe-bama thinks that passing and collecting cap and trade taxes from you to pay for a 1,000 jobs will make a dent in that percentage? I wonder how people in other states feel about their unemployment while O goes on about California’s and wants them to pay for it?

but yet in section 711 page 530 in the 1092 page version it lists the greenhouse gasses.
carbon monoxide is not on the list so therefore cars dont pollute and this bill is unneseccary
