Swimming trunks? $25. Bottle of fine scotch? $60.
The director of the CIA in the pool of a Saudi prince, ranting drunkenly about neocons and Jews? Priceless.
In a scene described in the upcoming Patrick Tyler book A World of Trouble, former CIA director George Tenet was visiting the house of Prince Bandar bin Sultan when he allegedly let loose after imbibing on whiskey, reports Jeffrey Goldberg on his blog at The Atlantic.
Tenet, Tyler writes, was in Bandar’s swimming pool complaining loudly about Bush administration officials “who were just then trying to pin the Iraq WMD fiasco on him.”
(ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW)
After quickly consuming half of a bottle of scotch given to him by one of Bandar’s servants, Tenet said, “They’re setting me up. The bastards are setting me up, [but] I am not going to take the hit.”
Tyler then writes that, according to one witness, Tenet “mocked the neoconservatives in the Bush administration and their alignment with the right wing of Israel’s political establishment, referring to them with exasperation as, ‘the Jews.’”
Goldberg says that in Tyler’s footnotes, Tenet denied much of the account, including the remarks and a report that he had taken a sleeping pill in addition to alcohol.
It wasn’t made clear by Goldberg just when the alleged incident occurred according to the book. Tenet retired from the CIA in 2004. Shortly thereafter he was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by George W. Bush, despite criticism from Congressional Democrats that Tenet was responsible for intelligence failures regarding Iraq’s purported weapons of mass destruction.
Goldberg’s blog post can be read in full at this link.

I guess we should ASSUME that Goldberg is NOT A JEW, and has not interest or bias in his report.

tenet commited treason. imagine, prince bandar, america’s “friend”yea right, probably brought in some russian sex slaves to show tenet a good time. they got him drunk, and next…all the state’s secrets are slipped to the enemy. what the hell is the CIA director doing in Prince Bandar’s swimming pool anyways???? treason.

It appears that Tenet may have given the administration accurate intelligence about the non existant WMD’s but it was skewered to look a certain way. Poor judgment on Tenet’s part – perhaps but I really doubt any treason was committed. Incidentally, Prince Bandar is a personal friend of the President and his family.

What? Tenet referred to Israelis as “Jews”? What next? Refer to people from Russia as “Russians” or people from France as [gasp!] “Frenchmen”? I believe that the current Israeli Prime Minister has referred to Israelis as “Jews”. He must be an anti-Semite, too. Wait a second. Every Israeli Prime Minister has, at some point or other, referred to Israelis as “Jews” and citizens of Israel as the “Jewish People”. How dare they??? Tenet should be strung up for doing what every Jew–at some point or other–has done! What next? Call people from the USA “Americans???” The racism!

Chris, I hope you’re intellectually consistent and get angry when Israeli Prime Ministers in referring to the Arab-Israeli conflict refer to Israelis as “The Jewish People”. I’m sure you write them angry letters to them, right? Wait! I’ll wager that you don’t. So let’s get this straight: When Israelis refer to citizens of Israel as “The Jewish People” it’s not hate, but when George Tenet refers to Israelis as “Jews” it’s hate, right? Is that your position? Sounds pretty selective. Let’s make a bet. Let’s comb through the writer of this book [Goldbergs] personal letters and correspondence and see if he ever–at any time–referred to Israelis as “The Jewish People” or “Jews”. Want to take me up on my bet? We’ll bet, say, $100.00. What do you think? Is he a “hater,” too? Bwa-ha-ha-ha

P.S.–One more point: Tenet HAD to refer to them as “Jews” because many AIPAC members–though Jewish–are NOT technically Israelis. (Many hold dual citizenship, many others, however, do not.) So, in complaining about JINSA and AIPAC members among the neocon community, he was technically correct to refer to “rightwing Jews”. “Rightwing Israelis” would not have been as accurate since most of the neocons are American citizens and reside in America.
So explain again how that’s “hate”. Is referring to a Frenchman as “Gallic” hate? Is referring to a Russian as a “Slav” hate? (And, yes, yes, I know: Poles and Slavs, Ukranians are Slavs. Slavs live in many countries. So is referring to a Russian as a Slav consonant with hate-speech?) Explain your position. Prove it logically. (Somehow I doubt tyou can’t–since you resorted to yelling and curse-words. Clearly the sign of a brilliant debater.)
December 20th, 2008 at 9:56 pm
You still aren’t paying attention: Tenet wasn’t complaining about Israeli nations, he was complaining about NON-Israelis (who happened to be ethnically Jewish) in America. Therefore, he COULDN’T carp about “rightwing Israelis” since most of the JINSA and AIPAC crowd in the neocon community AREN’T Israelis. They’re AMERICAN citizens who happen to be Jewish. So, in the context, he was accurate–and decidedly non-racist. It would’ve been tracist had the subject been golf or plumbing to mention “Jews”. But when discussing foreign policy–and especially Middle Eastern foreign policy–it wasn’t contextually racist to mentioned that most dreaded of words “Jews”. So let it sink again again, ninnies: Tenet wasn’t complaining about ISRAELIS, he was complaining about American citizens who lobby on behalf of Israel. So repeat after me: “Israeli” in that context would have been less correct than “Jewish American” or “Jew”. (It’s not a dirty word.) Believe me. Are Jews supposed to be so self-hating that the very word “Jew” is supposed to be bad?
