Lance-Corporal Joe Glenton is facing court-martial for refusing to be redeployed to Afghanistan.
He has written to the UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown, saying (British Lance-Corporal Joe Glenton refuses to go to Afghanistan):
“The war in Afghanistan is not reducing the terrorist risk.
“Far from improving Afghan lives it is bringing death and devastation to their country.
“Britain has no business there.
“I do not believe that our cause in Afghanistan is just or right.
“I implore you, sir, to bring our soldiers home…
“It is my primary concern that the courage and tenacity of my fellow soldiers has become a tool of American foreign policy.”

The Taliban controlled Afghanistan, The Taliban protected and housed Osama Bin Laden, Osama Bin laden’s Al Qaeda group did 9.11. When we helped the Afghan Muj defeat the soviets, we left them to fend for themselves after the soviets left and the Taliban popped up. So, KNOWING history, it makes sense, that after we eliminate the threat, we stick around to make sure something worse doesn’t pop up again.
As far as dissent. Yeah dissent is great, but when it is the right time. How the fuck fo you join the military not knowing you will be deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan. I have been to blandyland a few times.
I have not yet decided if I agree with this guy or not.
But I can guarantee that there are no viruses or worms.
But just like discovering 911 truth, you bravely go down every road of information and do your best to evaluate the value of the info. And just like 911 truth, about half of what you read may be pure BS, government disinformation or well intentioned mistakes.
The point is……….you evaluate, you learn and you move forward.
So the question is……….why does this Lumsford guy show up like a shadow on blandy on every thread fearmongering about computer viruses? Something blandy says is very very very troubling to Lumsford. That alone is enough to make me side with blandy over Lumsford.

Taken in context with Jim’s other comments on various issues, I took it that he was just offering some helpful advice. Just imagine if everyone started doing that, huh. We might even re-kindle some of that good old community spirit that is so sadly lacking among our species.

We need to get american troops out of there and alot of other countries we are occupying. We cant afford basic care of the peoples safety and health. I thought when the obamacrats voted him in he said bring the troops home as part of his change. Well he is just reinforcing what bush did and more so. AS a former soldier in the British Army who has fought in some of these dumbass campaigns myself, i cant quite bring myself to heap praise on a guy who ran away to Australia first for two years before returning back to the UK.. Bloody coward! I wouldve had more respect for him if he hadnt ran but made his stand to refuse to soldier back then… His desertion was cowardice.. Proved by the running away and hiding.. Can you the imagine the impact he wouldve had if he had stayed and made a stand? I think he wouldve started a trend which i for one wouldve followed…

Ok he’s a British squaddie he has certain rights, he can be a conscientious objector and resign although this may cost him, he will have to repay the cost of training him. Conscience comes at a price. He will then be drummed out of the army. As a subject of Her Majesty’s Government he has surrendered a number of rights and is expected to fight right or wrong. He swore an oath to the Queen and is expected to fulfill it. There is no picking or choosing.

I respect all my countrymen who have the balls to join up and fight in pointless wars. That requires discipline, because you have to put the stupidity of the whole thing out of your mind and “focus on the mission.” However, when limbs or lives are lost, unfortunately the rights of the military victim in receiving compensation, will be lesser right for soldiers, than civillians, because signing up puts them in a different category, under the law.
However, the convenant between state and the soldier/family is being stretched by this mean hearted bunch of New Labour oicks and their politicised vassals in the MoD.
Joe Glenton is brave for breaking the mold, which takes more guts than just obeying orders. I wish more British soldiers would rebel against the modern day General Haighs and New Labour US straightjacketeers.
