Britain’s freedoms under threat from ’security state’, warns Director of Public Prosecutions

The country’s top prosecutor today delivered an unprecedented warning that crucial British freedoms are under threat from government plans for a ’security state’.
Director of Public Prosecutions Sir Ken Macdonald said there was a serious danger that ‘freedom’s back’ would be broken by decisions taken in coming months that could change irreversibly the way society is run.
He said the ‘relentless pressure of a security state’ was to blame and gave warning of a risk that the public could ‘end up living with something we can’t bear’ unless action was taken to halt the drive towards increasing government powers.

Sir Ken’s warning, delivered at a lecture in London, will be seized upon by critics who accuse ministers of trying to set up a ‘Big Brother’ society with increasing state surveillance and powers.
It comes days after Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said she wanted greater powers to ensure that details of the e-mails, phone calls and web-browsing of all citizens were stored.
There are similar concerns about the impact of the Government’s ID cards scheme and plans for a child database and a vastly expanded criminal records vetting system, plus greater use of CCTV and other surveillance techniques.
Ministers have sought to play down these concerns but, in a ferocious assault today, Sir Ken gave warning that the increasing use of technology could destroy British freedoms unless deployed with ‘great care’ and restraint.
‘We need to take very great care not to fall into a way of life in which freedom’s back is broken by the relentless pressure of a security state,’ he said.

When Britain’s top prosecutor publicly warns that the country is becoming a National Security State — using language previously employed to describe authoritarian dictatorships like those installed by the CIA in Chile and Brazil — things are seriously, seriously far down the path to darkness.
Like the judges who are being pressured and bullied by the Labour government, Britain’s crown prosecutors are expected by centuries of tradition to act with a level of independence. That they feel the need to speak out now suggests that the pressure to join in the repression is unbearable for those who have not traded in their consciences.
The hands of the clock are clearly closer to midnight than we thought…

When are the arseholes who govern us all (on behalf of the elite) gonna realise that they’re already on the losing side, and it’s only a matter of time before their system implodes?
Sir Ken is a voice gladly to be heard, but behind the scenes, i bet you, there are many high ranking public servants who are getting mightily peeved by the top-down crap we are experiencing – and i mean public servants in the police and armed forces, as well as in the many arms of government.
All the prophesies say that love and truth will conquer, so why not join the winning side now? Those closest to them will eventually turn against them, then they’ll turn against each other, our leaders AND the elite both.
(N.B. I use the word ‘elite’ only to denote those who are above all laws, and who are actually as elite as a morning turd after a night spent drinking scrumpy cider.)

it does not matter what mcdonald says.he could say britain is now under a state of martial law and the election has been suspended in favour of continuity of government for the foreseeable future and it wouldnt register AND IM SICK OF IT.
