This was a ploy to draw Russia into a conflict. The end result will be Georgia being allowed to join NATO and South Ossetia becoming a protectorate of the UN with NATO peacekeepers inserted. This will install a buffer zone between Russia (North Ossetia) and that darn pipeline.

The whole operation was done by NATO for this purpose and the Georgian government/Saakashvili had no clue. It was black-ops.

I would think if the Georgians planned to 'go hot' on the Abkhazian side that they would have tactical maps with overlays to mark troop positions, directions of movement and the tactical dispositions of opposing forces. Noticeably lacking is any arty or armoured units... Russian intelligence is overplaying their hand. The Georgians started the festivities...they just didn't plan on being the turkey that was going to be carved up...Russia doesn't need an excuse to help Abhkazia. Georgia has shown itself to be a monstrous aggressor and the steps Russia is taking have the support of the inhabitants of that land--screw Georgia.
