Recognizing the sacredness of creation and taking responsibility for stewarding it are keys for combating global climate change, Renee Gopal told the “Dialogues in the Faith Community” discussion Feb. 10 at Zion United Church of Christ of Medina.
Gopal, of Ashley, is the executive director of the Prairie Climate Stewardship Network.
The network is urging church members to consider a “carbon fast” for Lent by reducing energy consumption, increasing energy conservation efforts and upgrading energy efficiency.
This is the second year for the network’s “carbon fast” initiative and the number of churches participating has grown from 33 to 39, she said.
Furthermore, groups from Kansas, North Carolina and Kentucky have contacted the Prairie Climate Stewardship Network this year for information about a carbon fast, as well.
Gopal called that response “super exciting. They are offering this for their members to think about.”
