Civilians perish as Georgian troops torch church

The Regnum news agency is reporting that Georgian troops burned down a 10th century Orthodox church while terrified civilians perished inside. The agency quotes eyewitness accounts of the atrocity after all-out fighting in Khetagurovo, a small village near the republic’s capital Tskhinvali.
Almost all of those fighting to defend the village were killed, but the report says the fate of others, mostly women and the elderly, turned out to be even more horrible.
Eyewitnesses report that Georgian tanks literally ran people down and that soldiers took almost all the women to another location. Their fate is still unknown.

Meanwhile, those who didn’t manage to escape found their shelter in a 10th century Orthodox church. Civilians hoped that Georgians of the same faith wouldn’t dare storm the building, one of the oldest of its kind in the country.

what is going on? There are rules to war (supposedly), and now both sides of Russia and Georgia are just ignoring them. Killing women and children in churches. This is not going to end well. Pretty much there will be permanent damage in that region for years to come. Hold onto your hats folks, because world war iii is about to start, and russia isn’t going to take it sitting down.

This kind of butchering happened in the ‘Crusades’ when Islamic men, women and children were slaughtered in the name of christianity, in South Africa when the british started the first concentration camp, in america to the Native American Race, in the first (the war to end all wars)and second world war, also in the Balkans, in all other conflicts in between and now in this one. It happens in war … it always has done and will continue. If man is so backward he needs to kill human beings in wars then the difference between combatant and civilian appears to narrow as to not matter. Only when war no longer happens will civilians be safe. Till that time we have to accept these deaths because whatever we feel about it nothing will change.

I have to agree with Michael on this one. You can’t just accept this stuff as fact. Theres a very good possibility that this is pure Russian propoganda. Lets face it, being burned alive or being crushed by a tank provokes a strong reaction in all of us. Isn’t that exactly what they want?

I would also like to note that placing this rubbish on prison planet tv does nothing to help our cause. We are simply exchanging western propoganda for russian propoganda. Unless this can be backed up by evidence then potential truth seekers will just laugh at this nonsense and think we are all a bunch of crackpots and never come back…

Paul D, yes it COULD be propaganda from either side. That is where HISTORY comes in. When you understand the HISTORY of the region, how the state of Georgia came about, how their president got into power etc. you can understand which side is telling the truth.
You MUST ALWAYS look at the HISTORY to understand the context of ANY event in the world. Otherwise, you are correct, you are just guessing.

If you check the history, it is always forces of Vatican that burn and genocide people of opposite belief, we have 2000 years of proof. Why was it Jews and Protestants that were destroyed by Fascists in WWII? Why was it Orthodox in Croatia in WWII, slaughtered by Catholic Priests? Vietnam, Buddhists being murdered, led by Diem, a hardcore Roman Catholic. Yugoslavia, Orthodox slaughtered by Muslims and NATO/UN.
We can go on and on.
