Climategate: the final nail in the coffin of ‘Anthropogenic Global Warming’?

If you own any shares in alternative energy companies I should start dumping them NOW. The conspiracy behind the Anthropogenic Global Warming myth (aka AGW; aka ManBearPig) has been suddenly, brutally and quite deliciously exposed after a hacker broke into the computers at the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit (aka Hadley CRU) and released 61 megabites of confidential files onto the internet. (Hat tip: Watts Up With That)
When you read some of those files – including 1079 emails and 72 documents – you realise just why the boffins at Hadley CRU might have preferred to keep them confidential. As Andrew Bolt puts it, this scandal could well be “the greatest in modern science”. These alleged emails – supposedly exchanged by some of the most prominent scientists pushing AGW theory – suggest:
Conspiracy, collusion in exaggerating warming data, possibly illegal destruction of embarrassing information, organised resistance to disclosure, manipulation of data, private admissions of flaws in their public claims and much more.
One of the alleged emails has a gentle gloat over the death in 2004 of John L Daly (one of the first climate change sceptics, founder of the Still Waiting For Greenhouse site), commenting:
“In an odd way this is cheering news.”
But perhaps the most damaging revelations – the scientific equivalent of the Telegraph’s MPs’ expenses scandal – are those concerning the way Warmist scientists may variously have manipulated or suppressed evidence in order to support their cause.
Here are a few tasters. (So far, we can only refer to them as alleged emails because – though Hadley CRU’s director Phil Jones has confirmed the break-in to Ian Wishart at the Briefing Room – he has yet to fess up to any specific contents.) But if genuine, they suggest dubious practices such as:
Manipulation of evidence:
I’ve just completed Mike’s Nature trick of adding in the real temps to each series for the last 20 years (ie from 1981 onwards) amd from 1961 for Keith’s to hide the decline.
Private doubts about whether the world really is heating up:
The fact is that we can’t account for the lack of warming at the moment and it is a travesty that we can’t. The CERES data published in the August BAMS 09 supplement on 2008 shows there should be even more warming: but the data are surely wrong. Our observing system is inadequate.

Science? A clever person can take most any “facts” and arrange them in such a way as to “prove” most anything. With a little payola in the form of grants or even money paid under the table most can be bought. Darwinian evolution is a prime example. Think “probability”. The odds of the smallest living thing coming into existence by chance is so astronomical as to be literally impossible. Let alone something as complex as a human being. Whitaker Chambers when first beholding his new born daughter suddenly realized that the Communist philosophy was a lie. That something as complex as a child could not come into existence by “chance”. I would like to ask Hulme, Jenkins or Shackley to define what is meant by UK DE-CARBONISATION?

Also, as unbelievably satisfying as the CRU leak maybe, we are not out of the woods yet. Copenhagen approaches and we need to stay sharp. Remember, Copenhagen is not about temperature, it is about CO2 so do not allow yourselves to be distracted.

here are some thoughts on what to say on climate sensitivity in our chapter – this is an
attempt to focus on the main, simple messages for policy makers. (I think we should try
retaining those important messages and not lose sight of them amidst all the details,
complexity and caveats.)
The main policy-relevant question could be phrased as follows: Does the past climate
history tell us how sensitive the climate system is to CO2?
I submit that the answers to this we get from different time periods are the following.
Deep Time:
Reconstructions are too uncertain (and boundary conditions too different, e.g. continents
in different places, different ocean circulation) to draw quantitative conclusions about
sensitivity to CO2,
Rahmstorf then continues with two historical examples presented as evidence which, in reality, are nothing of the sort.
I have traced this AGW fraud back to 1872, John Tyndall and his book: Contributions to Molecular Physics in the Domain of Radiant Heat. To understand how AGW fraud has been perpetrated thus far, Tyndall’s book serves as a crucial source of reference. This book is the origin of the fallacious arguments about CO2 and water vapour being the strongest absorbers of heat and thus the most important document for the fallacy of “greenhouse gases”.
Tyndall repeatedly draws the false conclusion that CO2 and water vapour are the strongest absorbers of heat (greenhouse gasses) while at the same time, in reference to oxygen and nitrogen, stating quote: “In fact my conclusion is that these gases are practical vacua to radiant heat, and that the mixture of oxygen and nitrogen which constitutes the body of our atmosphere is the same.”
So was Tyndall ignorant of the fact that oxygen and nitrogen have a melting point of 54.36 K and 63.15 K respectively, while CO2 is still solid ice up 194.65 K and water is ice up to 273 K? Or was he a sophist with an agenda to frame CO2 and water vapour as the main culprits in the AGW fraud this far back?
It is a clear act of deception to imply that a gas has no ability to absorb heat. A gas is a gas by virtue of the fact that it has absorbed large amounts of heat, if it had not it would remain as ice. The substance with the lowest melting point is by definition the most powerful absorber of heat, which places OXYGEN at 20% and NITROGEN at 79% of the atmosphere, as the most important atmospheric gases in the “domain of radiant heat”. If our current understanding of atmospheric gases is based on Tyndall’s work and the conclusions he draws in this book, Contributions to Molecular Physics in the Domain of Radiant Heat, then it is not so surprising that AGW fraud has occurred. This book is clearly the origin of AGW fraud and is a very interesting example of 19th century sophistry.
Also very important to note at this time, is the close association of John Tyndall to the originator’s of Social Darwinism, Eugenics and later, Hitler’s genocidal Nazi’s. Such names as Thomas H Huxley, and Sir Francis Galton among others. A social group of which Tyndall a was prominent member. This small clique of characters are responsible for human suffering on such an enormous scale that to allow any one of them to influence modern society in any way whatsoever, even from the grave, is a direct crime against humanity. Mankind will never be safe until history is rewritten with full acknowledgment of these criminals and their collusion in the current danger we are now confronted with in the form of AGW fraud, with such ominous agendas as “DE-CARBONISATION”.

Nice try, but there are 20,000 or so climate scientists in the U.S., and the vast majority support AGW. That amounts to thousands of scientists, that at least some of the people on this board think are deliberately lying, in search of personal profit.
That is a very ridiculous, unlikely conspiracy theory. Some conspiracy theories are likely, some almost mandatory. This one’s ridiculous.
Climate scientists could be wrong, of course, especially about a complex subject like the climate.
Heck, most would probably rather be wrong about AGW.
I’d rather be wrong about AGW.
But I’m not, unfortunately. There is way too much supporting evidence, from literally thousands of independent studies.
Sea levels are increasing.
Animals are moving northward, and to higher elevations.
Millions of acres of forests are dying from bark beetle infestations.
The seas are acidifying, and are doing so at rates far beyond what was considered possible only a couple of years ago.

I don’t know about the others, but one of the guys you are quoting is Dr. Will Happer, whose George C Marshall institute has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from ExxonMobil, and several million dollars from a network of conservative foundations associated with the far right.
The George C. Marshall institute got started supporting Star Wars, Ronald Reagan’s trillion dollar boondoggle during the 1980’s, and has only in the past decade or so switched to global warming denialism.
The first quote about the IPCC could be from someone criticizing the IPCC for being too conservative, which in fact turned out to be true. The IPCC reports underestimated the amount of global warming and the consequences from it. Representatives to the IPCC were appointed by their governments we need to remember, and the head of the IPCC pointed that fact out to the Congress when he testified.
Quotes don’t mean much. A quote means that some guy, somewhere, was upset about something and said something quotable. Quotes taken out of context mean even less, because often they don’t even represent the views of the person quoted.

The web is full of reports of “650 climate change denier climatologists meeting in Poland, standing up to say no to global warming”.
It appears that no such meeting took place. The 650 figure apparently comes from the Senate minority report, which has taken Senator Inhofe’s 400 “scientist” list and added 250 names to it.

Yes, there has been low solar sunspot activity, lately, which by some theories may account for some of the recent lack of dramatic atmospheric warming, although icecap melting and oceanic heat content continue to increase. Some scientists point to solar modulation of galactic cosmic rays, for example, and the effects of galactic cosmic rays in cloud droplet or ice crystal formation in the stratosphere.
Suppose that low sunspot activity is indeed masking the effect of increased greenhouse gas concentrations.
What happens when solar activity returns to normal?
What I would expect is that we would see a period of really rapid warming, driven by the increased greenhouse gas concentrations.

Uh, on edit, I guess that should be “ice crystal or water droplet formation in the cloud tops” in the troposphere, not in the stratosphere.
There’s a scientist that works at CERN who is a big advocate of this theory, who is working on an experiment to provide experimental data for it. Unfortunately, it’s a devilish hard experiment to do, involving high energy charged particles and vacuum chambers whose walls soak up the charged species generated. So, the jury is still out on this one.

The earth has been warming and cooling over and over again as far back as can be traced. I’ve been shown mud cores from the oceans bottom by Scripps Inst. Oceanography scientists dating back several hundred thousand years. First hot, then cold, over and over again with much more extremes than we’ve seen in modern times. This has occured long before man could possibly effected anything. Just check the agenda of those pushing the story and those like “Igor” and George Soros that have set themselves up to make hundreds of millions from the “Big Lie.”

This needs to be investigated criminally governments all over the world have, are, and plan to pass laws curbing co2 emissions based on this criminal conspiracy’s fraud. Their scam for which they were and are being paid has already cost the world hundreds of billions of dollars and hundreds of thousand s of jobs. Lessons in Dealing with Deniers

If you can’t provide a rebuttal of the Denier’s message,
then claim that the messenger has a profit motive.
ex:
“I’ve already pointed out that Dr. Happer has a profit motive”.
Of course those who promote and support Global Warming
are never biased nor have any profit motive. Of course the
bankers who have already setup shops to flog their
Carbon Offset Certificates do not have a profit motive to
support the unproven theories of Global Warming.
If you can’t debate a point a Denier has posted
then quickly use the “could be” or “it appears” trick
to re-frame the Denier’s point to something completely different.
Then argue the totally different point and ensure to
further promote the Global Warming theme.
for example:
“It appears that no such meeting took place”
“The first quote about IPCC could be from someone
for criticizing the IPCC for being too conservative”
If a Denier posts a quote from a Scientist, especially
from those who have published articles in peer reviewed journals,
NEVER admit any credentials. Always use something like
“someone”, “others” and “guy”. This effectively makes the
quoted Scientist Denier into just a nobody from nowhere.
In other words, into a non-reliable source.
Of course, only those Scientists who agree with the theories of Global Warming
are to be considered as reliable sources.
NEVER permit a Scientist Denier to become a reliable source.
ex:
“I dont know about the others, but one of the guys you are quoting”
“The first quote about the IPCC could be from someone criticizing the IPCC
for being too conservative”
If the Denier posts multiple quotes from key Scientists,
which of course should not be discussed a GW Believer must then
immediately dismiss them. This removes any possibility of the Denial quotes
being taken as being valid.
examples:
“Quotes don’t mean much. A quote means that some guy, somewhere, was upset
about something”
“Who cares” or “So what”
Pretty good example, that one.
Dismissed the validity of quotes.
Turned a well know Scientist into “some guy”,
thus his quote is meaningless and unimportant.
Used “somewhere”, completely dismissing any posted
credentials.
Of course, only those who agree with Global Warming theories
should have their credentials acknowledged.
Next we have “was upset about something”. Implying
that a Scientist with credentials that can’t be disputed
said that he did not believe in Global Warming because
he held a petty grudge. Seems like a lot of Scientists have
the same petty grudge against the unproven Global Warming theories.
Note also, never to confirm that a key Scientist Denier was quoted
speaking against Global Warming. Better to say that
some guy was upset about something. You must
re-frame everything to stop the quoted Scientist(s)
from becoming a reliable source who spoke against Global Warming.
With better training Global Warming Believers will be able to vanquish the Deniers even if the Deniers are correct.

Al Gore is just a target for the paid denier movement.
What he invests in, or doesn’t, has absolutely no relationship to whether global warming is occurring or not.

Even without BECCS, solar energy is getting cheaper and cheaper, and thin film solar cells may soon produce electricity cheaper than fossil fuels. Wind power already is cheaper, in some areas of the country.

Yes, the big patches of blue do indicate increasing ice thickness- in the interior of the ice sheets.
It’s the edges of the ice sheets that are thinning and accelerating- in key glaciers long ago identified as the “weak underbelly” of the West Antarctic ice sheet, and at all latitudes in Greenland.
Nothing else in nature accelerates like this, say researchers studying the Pine Island glacier in West Antarctica, for example.
The whole process of glacial creation – and especially destruction- has increased in speed.
That’s what they mean by calling it dynamic thinning.
And it’s actually much, much more threatening than just melting alone. This sort of glacial acceleration could destabilize the ice sheets much, much faster than simple melting.
This is the answer to the puzzle of how sea levels could have risen by many meters, in just a few years, in the past.
Lovelock actually predicted this, by the way, or at least questioned our knowledge of ice sheet dynamics, several years ago.

The technology which they are seeking, to remove a substantial amount of co2 from the atmosphere because we are supposedly adding too much, also will eventually be deployable on a scale that is a factor of 2 or 3 times that which is required. That ought to be enough to depleat almost all co2, and make it extremely difficult for plants to exist, thus cutting the human species off of plants and animals as food and fuel sources. This way they control the plants, they control the animals, and ultimately us, in such a way that no individual or even small group could have a hope in hell of refusal to partake in their agenda of control and totalitarianism. Quite literally it makes a suitable candidate technology and the world can very quickly be turned into a plastic, barren wasteland controlled by a tyranny.

Global warming is simply a way to push a carbon tax, more control over the energy sector and geoenginering via chemtrails(now legal) which can be used for military and weather modification purposes.
Free clean energy has been available for some time (see Stanley Meyer WFC, Bendini, Tesla exc) We should support there false science(while gathering real info) long enough to reign in better technology, then turn the tables on the bastards and put the petrochemical companies in our dark ancient history books. We use BECCS to return CO2 levels to below 350 ppm, stop the environmental crises like the bark beetle and ocean acidification, and save any corals and shellfish that have managed to survive the current acidification.

With BECCS, it appears that it would only cost about 6 trillion, worldwide, to return to 350 ppm, see the graph in the reference. At only half the cost of the Wall Street bailouts, spread over 10 years or so, spread over all the countries on earth, this is a bargain. Likely this is a high estimate- it doesn’t count possible combustion efficiency increases in the BECCS power plants, to help pay for the CCS, for example.
Then we worry about it- safe in the knowledge that we can continue to enjoy the trillions of dollars in free environmental services we receive from the earth right now.
A little cooling would actually be safer- at least we would have less worry about destabilizing the continental shelf methane hydrate deposits.
