Cops Stop Ambulance On Way To Hospital And Fight With EMT
Cell phone video shows highway patrol grabbing paramedic by the throat

A scuffle between two highway patrol officers and an EMT was captured on video after the police pulled over an ambulance on route to the hospital with a patient on board.
The incident occurred on Highway 62 near Boley in Okfuskee County, Oklahoma.
The video begins with the patient’s son, Mr Kenyada Davis, explaining “Highway Patrol have pulled my mom’s ambulance over because he’s mad we didn’t pull over.”
The troopers were responding to a call of their own and were evidently annoyed that the ambulance did not yield and give way to them on the road.
“He’s trying to arrest the EMT taking my mother to the hospital.” Davis explains.
The video then shows one of the troopers pointing at the paramedic and yelling “You are under arrest, you are under arrest”.
As the patient begins to scream inside the ambulance, the EMT, Mr Maurice White, Jr., tries to explain that he is trying to get to the hospital.
As he raises a hand in gesture, one of the troopers is seen to grab Mr White in an attempt to put him in an arm lock and cuff him. Mr White resists and a scuffle breaks out. Mr White attempts to get back into the ambulance, at which point the trooper grabs him by the throat.
“I’m going to the hospital.” Mr White again says, while Mr Davis pleads “he’s a doctor”.
The troopers then relent and return to their vehicle.

Mr White has given a statement in which he explains how he told the trooper he had a patient in the ambulance and that they were on their way to the hospital.
“He ignored my statement, became even more belligerent, and demanded my partner come to his patrol car so he could write him a ticket,” White says. “I calmly told the officer that we were transporting a patient and we could continue this at the hospital.”
White also writes that the trooper told him they could continue on to the hospital, but that he would be under arrest once they arrived. White was not arrested, but states that the troopers told him he should be prepared to turn himself in if a warrant was issued.
Paul Franks, the driver of the ambulance, has also provided a written statement.
According to reports, the troopers have claimed that the paramedic assaulted one of them before the camera started rolling.
The district attorney in Okfuskee County is expected to take a look at the video and may file charges against Maurice White as soon as this week.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol have refused to comment on the video while it is still under review.
Thankfully the patient was treated at the hospital and was released later the same day.

Neanderthals. Their heads are too big and too thick. Man there are so many stupid people in the world. How can someone who will claim he’s intellegent and has common sense let that intelligence and common sense convince him that stoppin an ambulance on an emergency run is a sound idea? Hopefully at least the lead officer will be fired and the other at least sanctioned.

Good point, we dont see any concern for the patient by the Officers. That should have been the first priority. I agree, if the patient died the Officers are responsible.
One day Officer, it might be you requiring an ambulance, it might be a loved one, a family member – so good luck with that.

I despise the actions of these particular officers, but find it inexcusable of you
to stereotype “all” police officers in general. This is why your response is typically
ignored by “These bunch of bastards are destroying there [thier] own country”.
If you wish to save this country from itself, then try to correct the individual incidents
and quit trying to group them into “they” catagories. I find on my local level that I need to ask where the guidance comes from and directly help to alter that individual
issue. One item at a time is progress. Bitching about it is the lazy excuse for please get someone else to fix my problems.

Typically, when correcting someone’s spelling, it’s best to correct it properly – “These bunch of bastards are destroying there [thier] {their} own country” – otherwise, it can make you look like the idiot. Therefore, it’s a good policy to just leave the spelling corrections to the experts.

In Coos County, Oregon, it takes two weeks to complete the training to become a county patrol officer. TWO WEEKS. Check out your own local county, how long is the training? Complain LOUDLY to everybody you can. It is no wonder we have such problems in our country.

I don’t know about police training, but I can tell you that I spent two years in completing private investigator training, and prior to that, I spent three months to complete nursins assistant training. Beware of ”quickie courses” in anything.

Yea, the cops have no medical training. The only thing they can figure out to do with the developmenatally disabled, is shoot them. A simple 10 hour training session in handling them would educate the police. The ambulance driver was an EMT, and was a proffessional, just doing his job. He has to do his job properly, or patients could die.
The only unproffessional behavior I saw on this video, was the actions of the cops. It was plain that there only interest, was bullying, because they wear a badge. If they knew how incredibly stupid amd rediculous this video made them look, in comparison with the EMT, they might want to take additional training in how to be a proffessional police officer. The patient in the ambulance was not exhibiting any abnormal behavior, and neither was the EMT. So they were cops, so what? There are a lot of proffessions which need a clear path on the road, EMT;s and Firemen as an example. They seem to manage doing their jobs, without having to stop and make fools of themselves.

Have you noticed, that something incredibly strange is happening to our national government, our police departments, etc, ? That they are all suddenly acting crazy, in their respective jobs, positions, and duties? What in the world could it possibly be, that is effecting them to the point of serious mental illness? We depend upon them as public serveants, to collectively insure as safe a society as possible! They should all be put away somewhere where they will not be a danger to themselves or others! I mean we no longer have government servants who even know what the US Constitution says!
I see no other recourse besides gathering together as a national body of citizens, and
doing what the Constitution TELLS US TO DO! Remember, the tyrant Hitler, was actually insane! And the actions of our top government leaders, clear down the ladder to our police departments, are suspiciously behaving in an insane manner! We are going to have to form a new government for ourselves, if we expect to survive. And we dont have to sail across an ocean to do it, as our forefathers did. I believe that they have all gone crazy, and we are going to have to take responsibility for our country, as sane adult citizens.

Sorry Linda, this isn’t something that just started happening. It started over
20 years ago when the military started training police officers. I had an incident in
Pasadena that was worse than the Rodney King incident, but I was white and the
newspapers didn’t even wan’t to report anything on it unless I got a settlement from
the city. I said this place was getting more like Russia back then and I had a Jewish
person from the camps on the jury who said they acted just like the nazis did before
WWII. People just didn’t believe the police would just attack anyone like that for no
reason. I tried to fight them for 15 years and eventually lost the civil suit, but I got
out of going to jail for their trumped up charges. People are just starting to open their eyes now because of all the video cameras out there.

If the cop was in such a hurry to help county then why did he take the time to harass the ambulance crew? Contempt of cop is all I see. Those “Police Officer’s” should be fired by the citizens of that state for attempting to cause a direct violation of hindering an emergency vehicle. All states have laws against that and those “Thugs” are not immune to the law. They are held most accountable because they represent the law. They should suffer the maximum penalty and loss of employment.

The “Police” being given military equipment. Look at the whole picture. This is bigger than your mentality to see everything. So wake up and see it in the whole scope of things one little issue is a symptom of the bigger problem. Start at the state and the federal will fall. Christ read the constitution and use it. Fire the Gov. of your state with a vote of no confidence. Then recall your state reps from washington, the Gov. has that power. then evaluate their performance. If they have not worked in the best interest of your population of your state then hold a vote of no confidence and fire their asses and reelect new reps. The Mayors of your cities will shit in their pants when this happens and they will fall into line. Do not make the mistake of letting the existing politicians fill the higher positions, it will be the same ol’shit. Elect new reps and Gov. from non political people from “WE THE PEOPLE” not “I the politician”. Break down the foundations from the state level reps and the federal falls.

I recall a guy from my highschool years who I found out later became a cop. This guy was short, and always seemed to be envious of others. He couldn’t stand it when others succeeded or could outdo him – in school, football (he hated that he was second string), etc ….
…Especially weight lifting class: He hated that he couldn’t lift as much as most of the others. Put down those who made school records or even lifted their own personal records, etc.
Now it seems he’s figured out a way, by carrying a gun, to assert his power and “authority”, thereby “poving” himself (in his mind) to not be a mega douche-nozzle.

Without his gun and badge he still gets his ass whipped! I know of one in my school who was a lil douche and he got his ass whipped regularly for being a lil punk ass to everyone. He then graduated and became a cop. I went into the Marines. Several years later I returned home and him and I had a lil run in. It went poorly for him to say the least. He took a punch in the mouth and I disarmed him, cuffed him to his own cruiser, then called his supervisor to respond to the scene,I did not leave the scene. His supervisor showed up and he chuckled when he saw what had happened. The super said they have had many problems with him in the past. They ended up firing him for wrongfully detaining me and attempting to violate my civil rights, the Marine’s J.A.G. filed the charges and followed up on the process to have him reprimanded.

Mr. White is clearly seen on the tape being legally placed under arrest and then seen to violently push away the officer doing so. This could be charged as either resisting arrest and assault on the officer. The son appears to be interefering with the officers’ making the arrest by pushing up behind them with his video camera while they are attemptig their arrest.
There is very little confirmable information given about the initial reason for the officers stopping the ambulance. The ambulance driver has the obligation to drive within the law at all times, and have regard for the safety of his passengers and others on the road. There is no information given about whether the ambulance had it’s lights and siren turned on. Even so, the driver must drive within the law and with the safety of others in mind.
Could we wait for all information to become available before indicting the officers?

MATT: You are so right on!!!! You said so well the way I feel about cops too. There are far too many with nothing to do. I used to live in the Silicon Valley – a bunch of engineers and office staff live in that area, yet they had a humongous police department.
These phuqs has nothing to do all day – what kind of crime do engineers and office staff working 12-hours a day commit? But there are pigs on ever block.
What do the pigs do all day? I’ll tell you: extort money from the engineers and office workers by harrassing them while driving or parking…. for minor shit (like rolling a stop at 2-mph, going 5-mph over the speed limit, parking with half of your tire straddling the yellow line, etc.), and “inventing” crimes to charge them with, by being beligerent and starting the shit themselves.
The cops are the biggest criminals in the silicon valley – yet they are the “law”. Phuq that.

These cops should be fired! You dont pull over an ambulance period! If these cops had a half a brain cell they should have gone to the hospital and then talked it over with the driver. They should be fired for incompetence no questions asked. The prosecuter’s priorities are screwed up and he/she should be investigating the cops first! The citizens of that county should be screaming over this! Just think that could be you riding in the back of an ambulance with a life threatening situation! Would you want to die unecessarily due to some young cop on a power trip? There is no excuse for this!

After being placed under arrest, the EMTs only legal option was to comply.

Police are not there to protect any more. They feel they are above any law, and they can break them, as well as any bone in your body.
Another thing is they have forgotten who pays their checks, us, we the people, citizens, humans, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters.
I hope they keep acting this way and that some family members of police get treated like this, or brutally attacked and beaten.
Don’t get me wrong, any forward thinking society needs police in order to uphold the peace of the land, but whoever is instructing these people needs to rethink their teaching methods for us. Nothing wrong with police learning how to take someone down. They have a tough job sometimes and need to protect themselves. They also need to learn control and RESPECT.

Well I understand not all cops act like this , and there are some honest good cops whom do not abuse their power, but it is now the minority. But honestly look at the frequency of this happening. It is getting worse and worse. I was mugged 3 times once at gun point the cops did NOTHING. By the time the 3rd mugging came I was a black belt in Aikido. I defended myself and took off. The guy was on the ground , that’s all I will say. My good friend was a Captain in the police and he told me what goes on inside close doors and what is not revealed on camera. I will not say anything on here, but you will not believe it, here in the U.S.A? This is why he got out, he told me it ruined him, and he told me NEVER to become a cop. There is so much abuse, corruption you have no idea., mind you he recently got out. Basically, we are on our own brothers and sisters, that is coming from his mouth. He also hates other cops, I am not kidding. What does that tell you? All at the expense of our tax-paying dollars. Very sad. By the way he was one of the decent cops whom RESPECTED others and did NOT abuse his position.

2. Video tape running and no tazer activity? No confiscation of evidence?

Apparently the call the ‘officers’ were on could wait, and lives or property were possibly at risk.
Secondly, the ambulance was detained, again, risking lives.
The hand on the neck appears to be assualt bordering on excessive force, which is illegal.
It’s hotheads like this, the bad apples in the barrel, that spoil things for everyone and place the department at risk of costly civil suits, not to mention the bad publicity.
Recomendation: The officers need to be dismissed or severely reprimanded and retrained.

Having been in law enforcement for 35 years and an administrator for 27 of those years the real problem here is the Oklahoma State Patrol brass. I have been in this business long enough to know that there might be more to this story but based JUST on the video these guys should be in big trouble. The problem is, more than likely, nothing will be done to the troopers and even worse instead of taking the opportunity to provide additional training to the rest of the organization the brass will condone this behavior. An organization will never change if you don’t make examples of guys like this and continually reinforce that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. The supervisor on scene should have put an end to this immediately and let the ambulance go on it’s way. I still don’t understand why they would stop an ambulance in the first place. Supposedly they were responding to a Code 3 call and the ambulance wouldn’t yield, which slowed their progress, so they pulled it over. Now they are dealing with the ambulance and not getting to the Code 3 call at all. It just does not make much sense. This looks bad, really bad!!

It was also a multi-laned highway which means a slight turn of the wheel at speed would have solved the issue. Also, this behavior has become a national problem. Florida is full of examples, and Georgia historically has a problem with arrogance, murdering pigs, and a host of corruption. Overall, most of the nation used to have actual law enforcement. Today, it is primarily just pigs. I don’t know of any case in the last ten years in which calling the police has been the right thing to do. Today, the right thing to do is to Fuck da police, shoot them all down.

Before anyone starts to foam at the mouth, let me say that from what I can see on the video, the cops there were certainly out of line. Looks like assault on an emt which im my state is a felony – the cop needs to be brought up on charges of assault and stupidity.
Having said all that:
It looks to me like the ambulance was running non-emergent, which if it was, and if the cop was running emergent, then the ambulance should pull over and yield the right -of-way. I am sure that the laws on this vary from state to state.
I do have a few years experience driving an ambulance but it was in a rural area and my experience with the local (county and state) cops has been overall very positive. (with one very notable exception).
The cops around here , for the most part, are ok people but I fear that the stains I see on their lips are from the Kool Aid. I’m trying to get them to wake up but alas, it is slow going.

On a bit more thought, the troopers were in too much of a hurry
to have time for an ambulance in their way, but not too busy to
stop and bug them personally. Usually if a ‘failure to yield’ is at issue,
another operative (not the one to which you failed to yield) takes
care of follow up. This looks bad for the troopers IMHO.

What if the patient died as a result of their arrogance? This is ridiculous. The police department would probably blame the EMTs, if the patient died. “They shouldn’t have been in our way.”

The officer shot himself with the Constitution. He’s in the Ambulance. He pulled the Ambulance he is in over. The officer is delusional. His action is not sound, it is suicidal. He is a threat to himself, the community and is totally unconstitutional. The officers can be arrested by anyone at any time. In this case, the time would have been urgent enough to warrant the use of force in order to sustain the officer inside the ambulance, where the Constitution resides in this case. Incredulous!!!!!!! I have been a Paramedic for over 20 years. I have to say that I’m sick to my stomach watching this. Not just sick because of what the video shows, but because for years I was under the false assumption that we (EMS, Fire, Police) were all part of the same public safety system. And for years I turned a blind eye to police getting a punch in here or there on people they were arresting, or throwing handcuffed suspects around (in one instance breaking a homeless mans arm because he was sleeping in a park), and engaging in all different kinds of unethical and possibly illegal activity. A few years ago I began to wake up and see what was really going on and have noticed in my 20 years of dealing with these people that the intelligence level of the average cop has gone down, the level of professionalism has dropped, there is no more protect and serve types. And for those who say “they’re not all like this”, well when the good cops turn and look the other way or stay silent about wrong doings because they don’t want to be the snitch, then they are just as bad as the offending officers. And when the prosecutors don’t press charges against officers for activity that any lay person would be serving time for, then they are no better. As for this video, I wonder if the cop was just infuriated to have to come face to face with someone who IS a real hero, not just dressing up in a spiffy uniform and posing. The Paramedics and EMT’s of this country dedicate their lives to helping people, and they save lives on a daily basis. More and more cops only seem dedicated to disrupting lives and trying to see how many people will lick their boots and then call them Heroes. they have no interest in helping anyone but themselves and their infantile ego’s. This video is making rounds across the countries EMS stations, eyes are open. It won’t be long though before the word INCREDULOUS becomes a part of the cops vocabulary.

It used to be action caused reaction, this was a ridiculously gross abuse of power. the cops, being “first responders” should have known an ambulance going down the road with lights and/or sirens is an important deal, 90% of the fault lies with the police, 10% with the ambulance driver for actually stopping on the road with a friggin patient. I agree with Tyler if there was an issue it should have been discussed, not a one sided argument and show of force, at the hospital after the patient is safely in the care of the hospital staff.

Well I was born and raised in Oklahoma and this particular brand of nonsense is not at all uncommon. These cops won’t hardly get a slap on the wrist. Our police forces are infested with these egotistical jock good old boys. Its disgusting. And then they have the nerve to call and ask for donations. I would like to donate all the malice and spite that I can afford on my decent law-abiding college kid salary. I’ll be sure leave instructions as to where exactly on your body you can properly invest it once you’re paid in full. Jerks.

It is ILLEGAL for police to pull over ANY ambulance that is rushing to the hospital with lights on. The cops have broken the law and must be prosecuted.

I don’t follow the action of the police either. In my town, the police come ahead of the paramedics and try to help. My aunt fell. We called 911. The police came and then the paramedics. They were all being very helpful. They were all white. We are all African American.
I’m in New Jersey. but I am smart enough to know it could happen to me. I grew up in Mississippi and I know racism first hand.

The policeman clearly has major psychological issues if he behaves in this manner. He should be removed from the force and sent for a mental evaluation. He is clearly a danger to society. If the people of the town fail to fire this individual, they reflect their own incompetence and violation of the law. If this had been a Black officier choking a white female, he would have been carted off to jail and locked up forever. Think about it. This video will be a point of reference forever in our history. I am sad that the EMT driver is traumatized forever; he must be having nightmares. I wonder if the cop has a family. If not, I understand why. If he does, my sympathy goes out to his significant other and children if any. I wonder what it must be like to live with someone like this on a daily basis. He must be abusing his family members in a similar way.
Someone please see if his family needs help; this is very important.
I know there are some good policemen; please keep up the good work. We applaud you.
I hope the good people of Oklahoma realize this is bad for their state.

Trash. These cops are complete trash. Can anyone grow up and let someone who obviously has a greater need of getting somewhere faster go ahead of them? People these days are so self-centered it BOGGLES THE MIND. This has to be fake because I don’t understand how any human being can let someone sit inside an ambulance and suffer because they have to have it THEIR WAY.

If troops/cops are to serve and protect, you’d think the ambulance would have the right away… If they were responding to a call from somewhere else, they could have slowed for a moment or driven past (depending on speed of ambulance) but apparently that wasn’t as important as pulling over the ambulance anyway… Stupid cops… I hope they get fired.. I’ll come do their job, I think I could do it much better as I have a bit sensitivity towards fellow professionals that save lives…
