  • Credit crunch forces evicted family of four to live in a car

    UK Daily Mail
    Saturday, Aug 2, 2008

A desperate family with a baby on the way are living in their car after their home was repossessed because they couldn’t afford rocketing mortgage repayments.

Laura Whitney, aged 28, who is four-months pregnant and her partner Richard Webster, 32, have spent the last two weeks crammed in their family saloon with children Jessica, seven, and Jack, two.

The couple became the latest victims of Britain’s credit crunch when they could no longer afford to pay their £62,500 mortgage.

    (Article continues below)

The family could no longer pay their mortgage, which has an interest rate of 10.9 per cent, when their sub-prime lender increased payments from £373 a month to £553.

They were forced from their maisonette at Batemoor, Sheffield, and moved straight into their V-reg Vauxhall Vextra.

Laura claims her family had not been given priority for rehousing by the local council because they were deemed ‘intentionally homeless’.

They were turned down for private-rented housing because the repossession gave them a bad credit rating.

The couple met in 2005 after the break up of their previous relationships and rented a cottage together until they bought their two bedroom home in August 2006 for £67,000 after their family gave them £5,000 for the deposit.

yeah we hear this about California. They supposedly have 6 car parks now when at the beginning of this year, they had 0.

    2. nygrump Says:

Living in NYC, I can only dream of an $1100 (£553) mortgage. I pay that for stupid rent for one room! This building has had 3 owners in the 5 years I’ve been here, they keep flipping it adding an extra million or so each time.

    3. Catman Says:

It is only going to get worse. Maybe the English peasantry have started to understand why their brothers revolted in this land over 200 years ago.

Maybe the kings of this land are starting to rest uneasily at night for fear we, once free men, have tired of the yolk of slavery placed upon us by the hordes of those who do not understand or value the true meaning of freedom.

I have a dream of singing “Strange Fruit” as I toss another rope over a lamp post along Pennsylvania Avenue and hoist another “public servant” into the air.

People should invest in ammo and guns and not waste money on houses.

You will be able to have your house, and keep it, with none of theese vampires feeding off you, after the reveloution..

    5. Ken Says:

The article is rather vague on their income, both at present and at the time of purchase which leads one to ponder… why? Possibly if these “Partners” had been a bit more frugal??? Responsible??? Intelligent??? Careful???

At what point are people responsible for stupid things…and now I suppose the Bank of England has to print more money because there are children involved and need care? The only ones I have sympathy for are the children.

They didn’t have the money for the down which was less than 10% (should have been 20-25%)
Their income should have been at least 30-40 thousand and they should have had this income at least 10 years steady.
11% interest??? when BOE rates were low???

Should we bail out people who go to Vegas and come back broke???
We wouldn’t; we would tell them they we’re stupid. What’s the difference here???

Maybe our schools, which are so eager to teach ’sex ed’ and diversity might want to throw in a little math and economy. But then how could they since most of them are in the same mess!!!

I am not a lender and do not work in realty. These were my parameters before buying… I now own my home but of course it’s just a simple home,,, not a McMansion, but it is a bit better than sleeping in a car…….

    6. USMC Says:

desso has it about right-arm yourselves the time to shrug off the chains is NOW..We need to become pro-active, as you can see fear is a motivator…Lets turn the tables…Anyone game?….this veteran has had it…

People should not fear their government’s…Government’s should fear their people…UNITE-FIGHT-GET BACK YOUR RIGHTS…

    7. Serious Says:

I work with Richard and he is a good guy who has been brainwashed into thinking that to be successful in the UK you have to own your own home.
When he said his home was getting taken back i told about a show Alex did with Jerome Corsi on 14th August 2007, Mr Corsi explained what was going to happen to the housing market and other things.I have been telling anyone who listens to me at work about the N W O, Economy ,9 11 and everything else i have learned.
Richard said to me if he knew what i was telling him before he got a mortgage he would never had gone through with it.
There are many people where we work who are in denial about the Economy, many who are 3 times as strung out than Richard and are probably going to go over the edge very soon.

    8. Giant Shadows Says:

      do math- approx
      1,000 per month= 12,000 per yr
      (extra 87.00 per month(12 monthes)1200-156= 1,046(30yrs)=31,380
      12,000 per yr(30yr)= 360,000$
      360,000+ 31,380= $391,380
The first 7 years is mostly all interest.
you pay 391,380$ plus for a 150,000 home.
VAMPIRES IS A NICE NAME FOR THESE CRIMINALS WHO ARE DESTROYING OUR COUNTRY.

      Where are we going?
We do not have to accept this-

    9. Dufus McStooge Says:

Maybe, the billions (250 or so) that were paid out to the wall street executives of Bear, Citigroup, Merrill Lynch, JPM, etc. etc… who made the enormous bonuses selling these worthless pieces of crap to unsuspecting investors around the world need to pay these fraudulently obtained monies back…

These funds could be used as seed money to begin helping out the ones losing their homes.

      just a thought.

    10. WXYZ Says:

Definitely the story of the week was the astounding revelation of
of senior Nasa official Clark McClelland.

McClelland supported astronaut Ed Mitchell’s claim that the military was interacting with alien races.

McClelland revealed that he saw an 8 to 9 alien in the shuttle docking bay on his moniter during a classified shuttle mission.

He also witnessed a UFO locked in a stationary orbit with the shuttle.

    11. PF Says:

Here’s an idea. We’ve all seen news stories showing house after house on one block going into foreclosure….how about if instead of walking away (and living in their cars) these families got together and agreed to barricade themselves inside and not leave. If you have an entire city block of families holding firm, perhaps things would get more attention and the negative press would put pressure where it belongs.

    12. Linda in RI Says:

Can you say WACO, times 100? They want us OUT of their houses and into the city, better to con-troll you.

    13. Rob from Canada Says:

You lot should READ the story before commenting. A bit of research wouldn’t go astray either. The repayments that this family were paying is LESS than the going rate for rent. The family were offered accommodation from friends but they’d had to have been split up. Whilst this sounds bad it would have been for a few weeks until they got themselves together. Also they’d gotten a shonky loan.

Sympathy for this family? For the kids yeah. The greedy irresponsible parents? NEVER

    14. The Sun Says:

I was thinking the same thing as PF. “Squatters rights”.

    15. Todd Says:

Rob from Canada, what is truly “irresponsible” is ignoring how the musical chairs nature of our debt-based money system is such that a certain percentage of the public is *guaranteed* to fail financially, regardless of how wisely everyone spends.

That’s the inevitable result of having countless billions more compounding interest debt sloshing around the economy than there is money to pay it off.

      For details, see: http://www.wealthmoney.org

    16. Rob Says:

Another robbery, and that’s all it is. Perhaps some will wake up when they are foreclosing on fully paid for homes. It’s coming because the agenda is No Ownership for the plebs.

    17. pigmeat Says:

Burn the mother F’er to the ground before you give it up

    18. Jen Says:

ZERO SYMPATHY EXCEPT FOR THE KIDS. These people are pathetic. I pay more than that in RENT and I am single and make very little money. IDIOTS. Please don’t waste stories on people like this just to make it look like it’s SO BAD. Post stories about families in REAL NEED PLEASE.

    19. ad Says:

Ever notice how so many ads in magazines and on airline flights are targeted at the wealthy? Left untouched, soon most Americans will be caught in similar housing scams that already occur around the globe and we’ll be learning about it from our tents and trailer parks.

    20. GARKO FACTOR Says:

if you are as sick of the bad news about oil and gas prices and the economy as a whole as I am then go to http://mywater4gasengine.com for good news and instructions on how to fight back.
it is very empowering. even if you are living in your car!

    21. Papilion Says:

NWO going down. Rape them… burn them… kill them…
