Full-body scanners that perform what critics call a “virtual strip search” of airplane passengers are being unveiled at Logan International Airport next week, federal authorities said.
In all, three scanners will be up and running early next week in Terminal A, according to Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Ann Davis.
They arrive more than two months after a Nigerian national tried to bring down a Northwest Airlines flight to Detrit on Christmas Day with a bomb concealed in his underwear.
The Logan scanners, among 150 being deployed nationwide this year, produce front-and-back images of passengers’ bodies through their clothes.
