    Raw Story
    Friday, July 18, 2008

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – An internal affairs report says a Daytona Beach police officer demanded free coffee and tea from a Starbucks and threatened employees with slower emergency response times if they refused.

Lt. Major Garvin, a 15-year veteran, was fired July 8. According to the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Chief Mike Chitwood says Garvin recently failed a polygraph test that he insisted on taking.

The coffeehouse’s employees claim that since June 2007, Garvin had visited the store as many as six times a night while on duty. Besides demanding free drinks, workers complained that Garvin also cut in front of paying customers.

A telephone listing for Garvin could not be found.

    1. eyestotheskies Says:

This is par for the course down here in Florida, where most of the cops are jackboot wearing, crew cut Nazi wannabes who get their kicks from making you and I’s life miserable. I salute the employees of that Starbucks for fighting back and I hope more businesses follow their lead.

    2. HiFly Says:

More should be fired for thier Nazi like behavior and demanding that they be treated like they are “Gods” while ruining many more families in proportion to the once in awhile show of actually doing thier jobs we are forced to pay for through taxes.

    3. Tax Slave Says:

      What an ASSHOLE!

    4. Jay Says:

Was he a bike cop? For some reason when I read about a cop cutting people in line @ Starbucks in Daytona Beach, my mind just assumes this guy wears spandex bike shorts to compliment his thinning buzz cut & steroid fueled figure.

    5. Todd Says:

Doesn’t it just break your heart when a power-tripping cop finds out he’s NOT “God” afterall?

    6. Professor Tim Says:

I’m sure his family is REAL PROUD of him. Hope his MOMMA hears about this!

    7. Tate Says:

We will see more of this Soviet-ization of the US as the economy implodes.

    8. Howard Says:

This is just the beginning of the new line of “serve and protect” policing. Definitely a protection racket in the making, and as the economy sours more and more, schemes like this will multiply like wildfire.

    9. charlie Says:

Garvin was not a bad cop. I dont know what happened over at corporate Starbucks, but Garvin was one of the nicer cops in Daytona Beach. He was a cop you could talk to ,and he would actually listen, and at least pretend to care. Chief Chitwood has been clearing out “bad Cops” and he’s the one who came up with the T-shirt slogan “Not In My Town Scumbag”. Burmas showed that logo on Alex’s show on PrisonPlanet.tv a while back, when Alex was away covering the Bildenburg meeting.
Chief Chitwood is Homeland Security and CIA trained, and before he came to Daytona Beach, was Chief of Police in Portland Maine, and before that was the spokesman for the Police , in Philadelphia, when the cops burned down a whole block
      of homes.
Chief Chitwood is enjoying lots of media coverage here in Daytona Beach. The last time he fired a cop, he set him up.
I dont think Garvin would be williing to go along with a roundup of citizens in an emergency. I dont trust Chief Chitwood and his motives. Chitwood has a nice handshake, and is a charming person, and has a sense of humor. (He almost got me laughing when his cops nearly tasered me one night , and made me get on the ground ,stepped on me, to put hand cuffs on me, and then, checked my id to find out I was ok. I was standing on private property, which I have rented for years.) The chief arrived and thought the whole thing was funny. The way he laughed, he almost got me laughing at my own humiliation. We shook hands, and he gave me a phony name,(Eric). ( he was in plain clothes}.
Since Chief Mike Chitwood’s arival here in Daytona Beach, The police Dept. has grown in size, they just built a whole new police station headquaters, and have lots of new weapons and gadgets, and an amazing new budget, while other businesses are strugling to survive.
Alomst ALL the cops are guilty of something. Maybe Garvin was guilty of demanding free coffee, which is wrong, but the cops nearly never get
in trouble for such things, unless the Chief wants to get rid of them.

    10. Ana Says:

Let’s give this cop the benefit of doubt. From what charlie says the Daytona Chief cannot be trusted. And since he is apparently fairly new he may be wanted to wipe out the good apples. I think it very interesting that the Lt. Major requested to take a polygraph and then they say he failed it. Any cop will tell you that polygraphs prove nothing and are inadmissible in court. Sounds to me like this chief didn’t like the Lt. Major’s morals and was looking for any stupid excuse to fire him. No cop would demand coffee. It is technically against the ethics code of a police officer to even accept a free cup of coffee, but we can’t blame them for taking one once in a while. There are still a few good cops out there, including my husband, who get a bad rep from the bad ones. They put their lives at risk everyday for our sakes and the only ones who get any praise are the firemen and the military. I am only grateful that the Sheriff my husband works for is a good man, principled, even against tazers.

    11. native daytonian Says:

I DO NOT BELIEVE ONE WORD THIS SO_CALLED INTERNAL AFFAIRS>>>>>>>>
I KNOW!~ POLICE BRUTALITY ON MOTHERS PROTECTING THEIR CHILDREN AND HOME,GOES UNTOLD AND INTERNAL AFFAIRS NEVER EVEN INVESTIGATED the complaints of the single abused law abiding woman of daytona beach, florida.I advise you woman to get a gun,get trained and protect yourself, and youre family,YES protecttion is not what our chief chitwood wants his officers to do.PLEASE GOD SAVE US,PROTECT US.
i wonder which good, honest cop is next.
my my my another scumbag chief who is supposed to take orders from the commision.HA HA HA

    12. mother of 4 boys Says:

we love garvin!starbucks coffee sucks soooooooooo bad who would want it. Those starbuck robots ,SHAME ON YOU LIARS!!!!!
ANYONE INTERESTED IN A PROTEST AGAINGST STARBUCKS……THEY ARE HELPING DISTROY OUR PEACE.

    13. HiFly Says:

Dont cry for me Argentina. The Police force is seething with corruption and it is time to clean house. Police feel they are entitled to extra benefits because they can say whatever they want and get away with it. My Dad was arrested for resisting arrest(no other charge) and what did he do? He told the a hole that he should stop messing with his son. The case was thrown out by the judge but not after going to court many times to get it finally thrown out for inconsistancies in the police story. So remember that when you pretend there might be a few good ones out there, they all basically support a corrupt system that is set up to destroy families and get as many false convictions as possible… lucky there was never going to be a plea bargin on that one and the DA rudely asked… What does he want, An Apology? Hmmm that is the least of it if you ask me.

    14. Howard Says:

Yeah, O.J., the Menendez Brothers, George W. Bush, Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Nero were just misunderstood. It’s because there mommies didn’t give them twinkies when they wanted them. But they WERE SUCH GOOD BOYS.

    15. AccuracyCounts Says:

      haha.
that dog got just what he deserved.
the only better end to that story would’ve been a hot cup in his face.

I am suprised someone wasn’t tased over a coffee dispute.

    16. AccuracyCounts Says:

Yeah, whatever to all of the braindead clones defending this scumbag.
OBVIOUSLY, NONE of you have EVER owned a business where one of these putrid dogs catch scent and feed off you like garbage for several months. I know of a MULTITUDE of dogs that take free gifts/bribes all day long. GIMME A BREAK.
He got EXACTLY what he deserved, one more disgruntled rent-a-dog comin up’

      HA

    17. Ana Says:

Hifly, Howard, and Accuracy, you are all being unfair. My husband is a cop, one of the few who have good morals and principles. He actually was rejected by dozens of departments and I know it is because they saw that he was good and they weren’t looking for a good cop. He finally got hired by a Sheriff who is against tazers and has great morals. The Sheriff just fired a guy for looking at porn at work and doesn’t tolerate immoral and unethical conduct. EVEN ALEX JONES says over and over again we can’t blame all cops. There are some out there that are trying to do their job and defend and protect the constitution, and many who lost their lives because they were good guys. I am surprised at you Howard as I saw you defending the Catholic faith on another article, but you are forgetting that Catholics must practice the virtue of charity. You should give this cop the benefit of doubt and not condemn all cops. Imagine what would happen if we did not have a police or sheriff at all. There would be utter chaos. yes some cops abuse their power, but if we didn’t have any of them to put away the bad guys, we would be helpless and begging for them to protect us.

    18. Chuck Says:

That’s alright. It’s only a simple form of EXTORTION.

Even if the pig was serious and could organize slower response times in a robbery, so what? The police almost never catch anyone in robberies anyway. They just show up to take a report and run back to the donut shop.

Remember, the police are there to “protect and serve.”

What and whom, they have no freaking idea.

    19. James Says:

The very fact that there are bad cops, negates any legitimate purpose they supposedly serve.I personaly would advise all the good cops to step down and go into another line of work.Remember folks that the police are nothing more than public servants, police departments do not have any natural right to exist, and since so many police are working against the public good,we should legaly ban the very existance of police power as we know it.Can anyone who is familiar with news and current events, deny that there has been cases where cops have used their authority as cops, not only as a guise to comit crime but branded that authority as a weopon, and even an instrument of murder?Think of all the cases where cops have stoped women on desolate streatches of road and proceded to rape and murder them.I wonder how many people would be alive today if it were not for so called bad cops? I wonder how many people have been murderd by serial killers in uniform ,branding almost unquestinable authority as their primary weopon? And I know there are those who are thinking we have to have cops,to both protect us and enforce the law.My answer to those who think this way is as follows. It is my responsibility and right to protect myself, you have the same right.Goverments have steadily eroded that right,to the point that many dangerous criminals know, or at least feel fairly certain that their victims are not going to defend themselves. It has been said that a visible police presence deters crime. What has not been said is that civillians with guns and the willingness to defend themselves, deter crime also. How much crime would we have if all Americans took self defence to be their right and responcibility? We have to be honest with ourselves, how many murders, rapes, robberies, assaults, kidnappings and other serious crimes have the police actually stopped in progress? The answer to that is very few.The truth is that the police arrive after the crime is commited, write reports and begin investigating. As I already said a visable police presence deters crime, but it only does so temporarly. The criminals simply waite untill the police are not looking,or they move on to areas that are not as heavily policed. It is inportant to note that criminals always avoid areas in which the civillians are likly to be armed. Therefore it is not the police presence that deters crime per se,but the presence of individuals with weopons and the intent to use those weopons against criminals ;this is what deters crime. As far as general law enforcement, only those laws approved by the public should be enforced. If the public really approves of a law how much force will be neccasary to implement that law? Should a self governing scociety really need armed represenitives of the state to enforce the laws that scociety approves of?We should ask ourselves, how many laws do we really need, want, what purpose do they serve, are they just laws, and should every law we have even be law or mere guidline? The laws protecting citezens from violence are definatly worthy of enforcement, but as I already said self protection is an idividual right,in essence true police power belongs in the hands of the citezenry.Americans need to take back power from the state, the state that is no longer represenitive to them, and once again place police power where it belongs, with those being policed.Government by the people for the people ,infers police power to the citezen. This means that the public has the right and even the duty to dismantle any association,”including the police”which has become detrimental to our freedom and or,safety. Someone in an earlier post stated that without the police we would have complete chaos. Many people make this claim, without ever offering any proof to subtantuate such a claim. In fact they ignore the fact that the establishment of police occours in the abscence of such a establishment!Perhaps we the people are entitled to chaos if from that chaos a more just way of governing ourselves can be arrived at?Is not a revolution against tyranny a form of chaos,or at least result in chaos?Perhaps chaos, which is a lack of order is a lesser evil than tyranny, which is absolute unchangeble unyeilding order? Stop being sheeple America! Think for yourselves, and lets put power back where it belongs, even if chaos is the result. We have a right to chaos just as we have a right to order,an order of our own choosing, not of a bunch of villans in suites or uniforms.
