US President Barack Obama’s plan to close the Guantanamo Bay prison by early 2010 hit a snag Tuesday as his Democratic Senate allies moved to deny his 80-million-dollar request to shut the facility.
The decision came after a fierce campaign from Republicans who charged that Obama lacked a plan for dealing with the 240 detainees at the notorious jail, and warned against imprisoning, trying, or freeing any of them on US soil.
“The money was sought prematurely,” agreed Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein, who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee, who told reporters the administration had failed to present a detailed strategy.
The Pentagon said the plan to close the facility, a global symbol of US “war on terrorism” excesses, was on track, while the White House said Obama would unveil a “hefty part” of his plan in a national security speech on Thursday.

In 1997 NORAD said, “Aircraft flying over our air space are monitored seven days a week, 24 hours a day.”
The quote above is contradicted by the following 2008 quote from NORAD, “Since the tragic events of 9/11, NORADs role which previously was outward-looking now includes monitoring airspace within North America.”

80 million dollars to move? Between a truck rental, gas, and mileage charges, I moved a family of 4 for about 100 dollars. ( local move )
Maybe congress should hire us poor folks to do the budget.

Isn’t that the truth, why don’t just stop paying for the maintenance of the national eye sore.

What concept I haven’t really understood was when the US government wants to shut someone else down or someone else’s program for that matter, they sanction and cut off money. The hope is to shut it down due to lack of funding. However, when they want to shut themselves down, they try to fund a special project to close the camp. And now so called elites with blue shirts (all the same, red or blue) want to block the funding for the closure? Very confusing. Sounds like an argument over who gets free money to me, meanwhile people who farted while reading Popular Mechanics are being tortured in Guatanamo Bay. The argument they need money to put them in American prisons is rediculous because they have no trouble throwing anyone in prison from marijuana users to teenagers. US having highest ratio in the world wouldn’t even notice a few hundred extra tossed into the system. So who gets the rub down of those millions of dollars… I want in on the cut. hahahhaa

Why is so hard to try these people? Send these jokers back into the warzone. 80 million to cut off the electricity. Thank God they don’t charge people here to foreclose or turn the electricty off.

What the congressmen seem to be saying is that our prisons are so inefficient that these men would be able to escape, and then, even though they don’t even know english & have no connections in America, they would somehow be able to succeed in avoiding the authorities, and then go on to carry out an attack.
How likely does that sound to anyone?

Instead of being angry at the injustices why not shout out your freedom from it. Learn about the sovereignity movement. We all have rights just for the asking. Watch http://www.tpuc.org/node/558 and then google it there are amazing victories for common law men and women against the self induced slavery of a legal but unlawfull government.

You’d think these muslims were X-Men or something, who have to be kept in special chambers Magneto style.

I don’t know what terrorists are talking about. The real terrorists and war criminals are free now in Washington. Some even give interviews in main stream media. In Afghanistan ! they are not there to fight the Taliban’s they are there for the pipe line from Central Asia through Afghanistan and Pakistan. That is why they gave to Taliban’s weapons (by mistake) to made sure that they stay in that region for long.

Was it summer when the river ran dry,
Or was it just another dam.
When the evil of a snowflake in june
Could still be a source of relief.
O how I love you, I once cried long ago,
But I was the one who decided to go.
To search beyond the final crest,
Though Id heard it said just birds could dwell so high.
So I pretended to have wings for my arms
And took off in the air.
I flew to places which the clouds never see,
Too close to the deserts of sand,
Where a thousand mirages, the shepherds of lies
Forced me to land and take a disguise.
I would welcome a horses kick to send me back
If I could find a horse not made of sand.
If this deserts all therell ever be
Then tell me what becomes of me.
A fall of rain?
That must have been another of your dreams,
A dream of mad man moon.
Hey man,
Im the sand man.
And boy have I news for you;
Theyre gonna throw you in gaol
And you know they cant fail
cos sand is thicker than blood.
But a prison in sand
Is a haven in hell,
For a gaol can give you a goal
[and a] goal can find you a role
On a muddy pitch in newcastle,
Where it rains so much
You cant wait for a touch
Of sun and sand, sun and sand…
Within the valley of shadowless death
They pray for thunderclouds and rain,
But to the multitude who stand in the rain
Heaven is where the sun shines.
The grass will be greener till the stems turn to brown
And thoughts will fly higher till the earth brings them down.
Forever caught in desert lands one has to learn
To disbelieve the sea.
If this deserts all therell ever be
Then tell me what becomes of me.
A fall of rain?
That must have been another of your dreams,
A dream of mad man moon.
36:22 Behold, God is exalted in his power.
Who is a teacher like him?
36:23 Who has prescribed his way for him?
Or who can say, ‘You have committed unrighteousness?’
36:24 “Remember that you magnify his work,
whereof men have sung.
36:25 All men have looked thereon.
Man sees it afar off.
36:26 Behold, God is great, and we don’t know him.
The number of his years is unsearchable.
36:27 For he draws up the drops of water,
which distill in rain from his vapor,
36:28 Which the skies pour down
and which drop on man abundantly.
36:29 Yes, can any understand the spreading of the clouds,
and the thunderings of his pavilion?
36:30 Behold, he spreads his light around him.
He covers the bottom of the sea.
36:31 For by these he judges the people.
He gives food in abundance.
36:32 He covers his hands with the lightning,
and commands it to strike the mark.
36:33 Its noise tells about him,
and the livestock also concerning the storm that comes up.
37:1 “Yes, at this my heart trembles,
and is moved out of its place.
37:2 Hear, oh, hear the noise of his voice,
the sound that goes out of his mouth.
37:3 He sends it forth under the whole sky,
and his lightning to the ends of the earth.
37:4 After it a voice roars.
He thunders with the voice of his majesty.
He doesn’t hold back anything when his voice is heard.
37:5 God thunders marvelously with his voice.
He does great things, which we can’t comprehend.
37:6 For he says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth;’
likewise to the shower of rain,
and to the showers of his mighty rain.
37:7 He seals up the hand of every man,
that all men whom he has made may know it.
37:8 Then the animals take cover,
and remain in their dens.
37:9 Out of its room comes the storm,
and cold out of the north.
37:10 By the breath of God, ice is given,
and the breadth of the waters is frozen.
37:11 Yes, he loads the thick cloud with moisture.
He spreads abroad the cloud of his lightning.
37:12 It is turned around by his guidance,
that they may do whatever he commands them
on the surface of the habitable world,
37:13 Whether it is for correction, or for his land,
or for loving kindness, that he causes it to come.
37:14 “Listen to this, Job.
Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
37:15 Do you know how God controls them,
and causes the lightning of his cloud to shine?
37:16 Do you know the workings of the clouds,
the wondrous works of him who is perfect in knowledge?
37:17 You whose clothing is warm,
when the earth is still by reason of the south wind?
37:18 Can you, with him, spread out the sky,
which is strong as a cast metal mirror?
37:19 Teach us what we shall tell him,
for we can’t make our case by reason of darkness.
37:20 Shall it be told him that I would speak?
Or should a man wish that he were swallowed up?
37:21 Now men don’t see the light which is bright in the skies,
but the wind passes, and clears them.
37:22 Out of the north comes golden splendor.
With God is awesome majesty.
37:23 We can’t reach the Almighty.
He is exalted in power.
In justice and great righteousness, he will not oppress.
37:24 Therefore men revere him.
He doesn’t regard any who are wise of heart.”

Truth be told the Demoncrats had internal polling and the US citizens do not want terrorists in their back yards. this give the child president obambi cover. nothing more , nothing less.

The Dem-Rep Punch and Judy smokescreen on this issue is pure theater. The WSWS hit the nail on the head-
“Republicans are well aware that the prisoners pose no threat to anyone. One of the concerns—shared by sections of the military-intelligence apparatus—is that any maneuver to process the prisoners in the US could be leveraged into new avenues of legal redress. This could further expose the entire edifice of lies that has been used to explain the September 11 terrorist attacks on New York and Washington, and justify the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and now Pakistan.”

Okay, lets check the logic. It’s okay to house Charles Manson, Jeffery Dahmer, and other notoriously nasty people in the US but not Hanji???What fucked up logic! 80 million? So how many people are getting kickbacks for it to be that much???Haliburton?Lockheed??payments for broken contracts???I agree, the real terrorists are in Washington D.C. How about we make a real estate deal with Cuba and sell them the land back, oh and throw in a few Cigars too. People, this is the fundamental problem with our government. THEY HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA HOW TO BALANCE THEIR CHECKBOOK!! I personally would like to see a break down of their 80 million dollar estimate. Does that include removing gold plated toilets???
May 21st, 2009 at 8:53 am
Its not the $80 Million, its that the senators don’t want to have them brought into the US. It’s very unpopular politically and no one wants to step up. Just imagine the ads:
“Senator X Voted YES to have TERRORISTS sent to American Jails, putting your children in DANGER!” *quick flash to a little kid playing*
The thing is, many of them haven’t even been charged! There are more dangerous criminals on the street right now! What about all the gang activity in LA? MS-13 is spreading across the country. There’s MS-13 showing up in rural towns in the east (Robbins, NC).
It’s such a low risk, but the politicians won’t touch it.
