Did McCain ad lift ‘cross in the dirt’ story from Russian novelist?

Senator John McCain (R-AZ), in a Christmas-themed December ad for his presidential campaign, told the following story:
“One night, after being mistreated as a POW, a guard loosened the ropes binding me, easing my pain. On Christmas, that same guard approached me, and without saying a word, he drew a cross in the sand. We stood, wordlessly, looking at the cross, remembering the true light of Christmas. I’ll never forget that no matter where you are, no matter how difficult the circumstances, there will always be someone who will pick you up.”
“It just sounded so fake and so contrived, so I did a little research about it,” said DailyKos contributor rickrocket. The research revealed a similar story by recently departed novelist and McCain favorite Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, recounting his experience in a Soviet gulag in The Gulag Archipelago, released in the United States in 1973. Luke Veronis, in The Sign of the Cross, recounts:
“Along with other prisoners, he worked in the fields day after day, in rain and sun, during summer and winter. His life appeared to be nothing more than backbreaking labor and slow starvation. The intense suffering reduced him to a state of despair.

On one particular day, the hopelessness of his situation became too much for him. He saw no reason to continue his struggle, no reason to keep on living. His life made no difference in the world. So he gave up.
Leaving his shovel on the ground, he slowly walked to a crude bench and sat down. He knew that at any moment a guard would order him to stand up, and when he failed to respond, the guard would beat him to death, probably with his own shovel. He had seen it happen to other prisoners.
As he waited, head down, he felt a presence. Slowly he looked up and saw a skinny old prisoner squat down beside him. The man said nothing. Instead, he used a stick to trace in the dirt the sign of the Cross. The man then got back up and returned to his work.
As Solzhenitsyn stared at the Cross drawn in the dirt his entire perspective changed. He knew he was only one man against the all-powerful Soviet empire. Yet he knew there was something greater than the evil he saw in the prison camp, something greater than the Soviet Union. He knew that hope for all people was represented by that simple Cross. Through the power of the Cross, anything was possible.
Solzhenitsyn slowly rose to his feet, picked up his shovel, and went back to work. Outwardly, nothing had changed. Inside, he had received hope.”

Strange thing, I just read about the dirtcross story recently. Then Solzhenitsyn died.
Then the Georgia-Russia war in which McCain has a big stake.

I’m a Christian which means a follower of Jesus Christ. With that said, be careful of anyone of these guys who want to say they are “Christian” and mention “Christ” here and there. Not once did I hear the name “Jesus” mentioned.
Just a thought.
If anyone ever has a chance to confront these guys on their faith, use the name Jesus. I would love to see or hear about how they reacted.

The cross is a symbol that had been used for centuries prior to christianity by evil forces… it was adopted into the Yeshua story along with a whole bunch of lies and deceptions to turn that into a religion that could be used by the same evil force that has been and is currently controlling this world. I know most christians are good people and their hearts are in the right place, but please, please do your research – you are being deceived. There never was a man named “jesus” and he was not nailed to a cross… the name change is also part of the con and you are being fooled into attaching power to an evil symbol… the cross. However the man the religious control story is built around was trying to fight the same evil forces we are fighting today… he was hijacked and his story was hijacked… remember your education and your church is controlled by evil – do some independent research. This is not meant to anger true christians – all good people are on the same side – we just need to get to get rid of ALL the lies.

Something tells me that I heard this before, so I did a little research:
Religion remains a controversial topic in the 2000 race for the presidency.
The trend got under way Dec. 13 during a Republican debate in Iowa. Asked what “political philosopher” he most admires, Texas Gov. George W. Bush, who is considered the GOP front-runner, replied, “Christ, because he changed my heart…. When you turn your heart and your life over to Christ, when you accept Christ as the Savior, it changes your heart and changes your life.”

And also, remember McCain ran for president earlier and here is how he answered on his faith:
Not to be left out, Arizona Sen. John McCain during the same Jan. 6 debate pointed out that when he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam he served as a chaplain and led services for his fellow captives.
“But one of the sermons that I gave and I’m a great sermoner, as you know, that prepared me for public life – is the parable according to when Jesus held up the coin when asked if they should pay taxes. And he said, quote, ‘Render unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s, render unto God that which is God’s.’ When I’m in the Oval Office, I’ll obviously have a relationship with God, but I’m rendering unto Caesar as well.”

Most Christians have become unrighteous.
Here’s a great example: Under George W Bush and the current administration, torturing people is acceptable by those who profess to be Christians. Invading other peoples countries for oil (coveting their property) is acceptable. Lying, and on and on and on…………

I am ashamed to say that I worked to elect this scumbag in ‘00. Thankfully he lost. I found out from his own people that his injuries came from not tucking his arms and legs in after ejecting his aircraft. He gave them everything they wanted to know in order to not be tortured beside his own injuries. I have come to not believe ANYTHING he says! John is a media and self created delusion. And his father was responsible for covering up the USS Liberty, while John himself is responsible for the deaths of hundreds of fine sailors on the USS Forrestal. He is a reckless, intemperate ASS who covered up the fact that he left men behind in Vietnam TO THIS DAY!!! (American Free Press) I hate Obama, but McCain is even worse. I’m going 3rd party this time, and I hope you do too!
