Dozens of people arrested during G-20 protests packed Pittsburgh Municipal Court today for preliminary hearings. For some, it might be their only judicial proceeding related to the protests.
Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala Jr. said his office will drop charges against four Pitt students arrested during protests in Oakland and might drop more after prosecutors review cases.
Of the 190 people arrested during demonstrations against the G-20 summit last week, 51 were Pitt students, he said.

More than 50 preliminary hearings were scheduled today for people arrested at different times during the summit. Zappala said most cases likely would be postponed so prosecutors can continue reviews.
Luke Rudkowski, 23, a college student from Brooklyn, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and paid a $100 fine. He said he was in Schenley Plaza yelling through a megaphone for people to remain peaceful when he was arrested.
“We tried to leave,” he said. “We tried to disperse, but we were surrounded by police. We went toward the Cathedral (of Learning), and they were chasing us down like rabid dogs.”
