Hysteria in aftermath of Sandy Hook reaches new heights

A South Philadelphia elementary student was searched in front of classmates and threatened with arrest after she mistakenly brought a “paper gun” to school, yet another example of the hysteria sweeping America’s school system in the aftermath of the Sandy Hook massacre.

Melody Valentin was given the “paper gun,” which amounted to little more than a sheet of A4 paper with a corner torn off, by her grandfather before she put it in her pocket and forgot all about it.

When a school administrator found the piece of paper, Valentin was verbally chastised in front of the whole class and, according to her mother, even threatened with arrest. Valentin was also searched as the other children looked on.

A FOX 29 video clip shows Valentin crying as she complains of her classmates calling her a “murderer” as a result of the incident.

“I’m waking up at three o’clock in the morning and my daughter’s in the bathroom crying, she’s saying I’m having nightmares, I’m having dreams that he’s chasing me down the street,” said Dianna Kelly, the girl’s mother, adding that the administrator stood over her daughter threatening to call the cops and have her arrested.

“He yelled at me and said I shouldn’t have brought the gun to school, but I kept telling him it was a paper gun and he wouldn’t listen,” said Valentin .

FOX 29 reporters attempted to contact school administrators for answers but calls were not returned.

“I don’t want my child in that school,” said Kelly, who is keeping her daughter out of classes and may change schools altogether.

The incident is just the latest in a string of ludicrous cases where school officials have gone completely overboard in reacting to children carrying toy guns or merely making gun gestures with their hands.

Last week, a 5-year-old girl from Mount Carmel, Pennsylvania was interrogated for three hours, forced to undergo psychological testing and suspended by school officials after she was accused of making “terroristic threats” for joking about shooting her friends with a pink Hello KItty bubble gun.

Earlier this month a 6-year-old boy was suspended from his elementary school in Maryland for making a gun gesture with his hand and saying “pow”.

Days later another two 6-year-olds in Maryland were suspended for pointing their fingers into gun shapes while playing “cops and robbers” with each other.

In Oklahoma, a five-year-old boy was also recently suspended for making a gun gesture with his hand.

A 13-year-old Middle School seventh grade student in Pennsylvania was also suspended for the same hand gesture.

A Long Island high school was also placed on lock down for 6 hours in response to a student carrying a toy nerf gun.
