  • EU leaders to ‘bribe’ Irish voters into backing controversial Lisbon Treaty at second referendum

    DAILY MAIL
    Thursday, December 11, 2008

European Union leaders are set to sign a deal to effectively bribe Irish voters to back the Lisbon Treaty.
The country’s Government is likely to allow a second vote on the controversial document next year.

And to get the treaty back on the table, it appears Brussels has caved in on some of the demands that leaders believe led to its original rejection.

Main concerns included the retention of a permanent EU commissioner and Ireland’s military neutrality.

There are also reportedly guarantees on taxation policy, workers’ rights and on abortion.

The new draft document will be considered by EU leaders in Brussels today.

Ireland’s rejection of the treaty – a successor to the defunct EU constitution and aimed at easing decision-making in Brussels – has slowed integration efforts.

The Irish government, which campaigned in favour of the treaty, argues EU membership contributed to the country’s quick transformation into one of Europe’s richest countries.

But voters threw it out in a June referendum seen as a major blow for the whole union.

A new poll would be a major step forward for backers of the treaty.

Speaking ahead of today’s Brussels summit, Irish Foreign Minister Michael Martin said: ‘These are draft conclusions and they have to be agreed by all of the member states over the next two days.

    2. citcoming Says:

WE are with you Ireland, say no. Keep your freedom.

    3. Mark Says:

I am with you Ireland 100%.
      Vote a big fat NO!
On this evil treaty and tell the EU to f---ing back off.
Tell them that the Irish people don’t tolerate slavery or imperialism in any form.
The EU is out of control. I the EU backs off and reforms itself so that it doesn’t interfere in the soveraignty of Independent European Nations or all EU member should pull out and disband the EU and replace with the EEC of the 1970s and 1980s. Time to turn the clock back.

    4. bootroll Says:

      The EU will promise anything.
Imagine, if the Irish had voted “Yes” last time, would the EU now be having this election to check if they really meant “Yes” and didn’t want to change their mind again and vote “No” this time instead?
They mean to win this time and will promise anything! they have probably worked out how to fiddle it, watch them say it is a postal vote only, no polling stations! Or they’ll bring in electronic voting machines, etc.

    5. NzlWolf Says:

I live in Ireland and i was pretty proud of the ” Celtic Tiger ” who said NO to the treaty…it was a close shave but we made it, after i saw that it was thrown out my first thought was ” oh s--- they will not let this go that easily “…and here we are again, i hope once again the answer is NOOOOOOOOOOO, but that might not happen this time, if it would happen Brussels basically just crumbles, this EU thing ( Extra UNIX ) is getting worse and worse by the day, i used to love europe, all the different cultures, changing money before you go on holiday it was all part of the fun…now i can hear the ” Boots ” of Imperial Europe down the road, the machine is going full gear to make everybody listen and controllable…i have seen this on the main land Europe more then here in Ireland ( lets hope it stays that way here ), USA scare tactics are being used in the news papers and TV to make people hyper and unsure, they will rock you foundations and dreams to get you to come to there side, If we do loose this time and we get ” Sturmführer ” Blair for president then we might as well pack up and leave, if there ever was one self-loving and brainless moron in the world it would be him….he is too stupid to see that he is being used himself and if they have no more need for him he will be tossed to one side just as easily as he is doing to people now ( i hope this happens and will be shown on TV, i would record it and then watch it time after time )…people we don’t need governments, we don’t need people to tell us what to do…we all have minds of our own and through stumbling and falling we will learn how to live the good and proper life….people cut the cord and start thinking and living for your self…LETS TAKE THE POWER BACK FROM THESE FACELESS ARSE HOLES !!!!!!

    6. Mark Says:

Us Irish have been abused for many years by the British Empire and we never caved in. We will always fight for our freedoms.

    7. Huntsman Says:

Don’t give up Ireland, otherwise England has no chance.
NO REFERENDUM because they changed the name.
      They are hell bent.
      STAND YOUR GROUND.

    8. roger doughty Says:

The Nederlands eventualy accepted the new constitution because the EU called it by another name and shows how gullible people are.
      DO NOT ACCEPT IT!
Remember “The price of freedom is eternal vigilance”

    9. John Says:

The Netherlands government did not accept the “treason” of Lisbon.
      Dutch people didn’t.
They just changed the name of the treaty, so no new referendum was needed.
They just passed the earlier referendum.
The Dutch prime minister, and his government are traitors.
So are governments of all other European countries.
The want to shove their treaty down our throat one way or another.

Someone who wipes the floors in the EU parliament earns twice the money as someone who works 60 hours a week.
How f*** mad can they be?

      (I live in the Netherlands)

    10. Pieter Says:

      @ 9

The people of the Netherlands never got a second chance to vote. Our government just passed it because they wouldn’t dare to give us a chance to speak again. We are not gullible, we weren’t asked. Because they knew it would be NO again.

    11. Johan, Sweden Says:

The people in EUrope must protest against this treaty. Specially all the people in The Netherlands& France that all ready have said NO in 2005. In Sweden where i from, the controlled media has not report anything negative about the Lisabon treaty. I had tried to inform people but almost nobody take it serious.
