Ex-diplomat says Afghanistan in ‘civil war,’ calls for US withdrawal

When former U.S. diplomat to Afghanistan Matthew Hoh resigned on Sept. 10, 2009, he did so in a very public manner.
Now freed from the constraints of speaking on behalf of the United States government, he’s taken to the media, spreading his view that America’s involvement in Afghanistan is senseless and must soon end.
“I hit a point in my conscience where I just felt it was senseless, what was happening,” he explained on a Monday broadcast of NBC’s Today Show. “Our troops are fighting people who are fighting up because we’re occupying them. … What we are doing there doesn’t attain any strategic value or any goals for the United States.”
Interviewer Matt Lauer, paraphrasing Hoh’s resignation letter (PDF link), said that America still views Afghanistan “through the lens of 9/11.”
“And you say that the people we’re fighting there, the insurgents, do not see it that way at all,” Lauer continued. “They are not fighting to support the Taliban, the people who allowed violence to come to our shores. They’re fighting for their individual communities and their valleys.”
Lauer’s summary concluded: “So, as long as we fail to understand that this isn’t about 9/11 and in many ways not even about the Taliban, we’re wasting the lives of men and women there.”
“Correct,” Hoh said.
In his resignation letter to Ambassador Nancy J. Powell, he wrote, “To put it simply: I fail to see the value or the worth in continued U.S. casualties or expenditures of resources in support of the Afghan government in what is, truly, a 35-year-old civil war.”
During Monday’s interview, Hoh repeated the claim that Afghanistan is embroiled in a decades-old civil war. He added that many Afghan-Americans and members of the U.s. military have sent him messages encouraging his public condemnation of the war.
“I’m getting a lot of e-mails, a lot of support, from active-duty military guys here and guys in Afghanistan — some I know, some I don’t — who are saying, ‘Matt, keep doing this. We’re not sure what we’re doing here. It doesn’t make any sense. All we’re doing is fighting people who are fighting us because we’re occupying them.”
In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Hoh kept up the charge. “I firmly believe that we are taking part in a civil war,” he said. “We are on the same side of the civil war that the Soviets intervened on.”

Of course it’s a civil war. It’s not a nation so much as a bunch of tribes in very rough terrain. Look at the history of the place and you will see that foreign invaders can’t take and hold the place. Time to leave. Nothing there is worth one more U.S. life. Why are we there? Same reasons as many wars in the past: control of natural resources. In this case oil (pipeline), copper and drugs.

I have an urgent message for you, more important than any message you can hear. God is Holy and cannot accept sin(honor thy mother and father…, thou shall not kill, thou shall not commit adultery, thou shall not steal, thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor, thou shall not covet..etc…Exodus 20:12-17). Here are some verses that show examples of sin:

But God has provided a way for each to escape the lake of fire. He sent his Son Jesus(God manifest in the flesh-1 Timothy 3:16) who was conceived by a virgin by the Holy Spirit of God,lived a sinless life, and suffered a horrible death/shed blood and rose again 3 days later to take the penalty of YOUR sins so you dont have to pay for them in hell for eternity! He loved you so much which is why he did it! He is the only one to have fufilled the law perfectly(sinless) and paid the price of the entire world’s sins so that man could be saved on the merits of His perfection(see Romans 5:19). All you must do to be saved is BELIEVE in Him(trust in Him to save you as a sinner). You must admit your lost sinful condition to Him/that you’re worthy of hell, and ask Him to save you by placing complete trust in Jesus ALONE for salvation(an example in the Word of someone doing this- “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” Luke 18:13).It is not even partly by yourselves that you can be saved, but only by the merits of Jesus Christ!

No works or anything you do can save you! May God open your eyes, that one day I may see you in heaven. Read the Word of God(the 1611 King James version- NOT the modern versions, they are corrupt) before rejecting it! Death is fleeting. You may NOT have tomorrow! For death comes when we least expect it! Make sure you are saved TODAY! The Bible condemns the rich, the wealthy, and those who take advantage of the poor, so it CANNOT have been made up by the elite. Because the Word clearly CONDEMNS people such as those! It declares all mankind as sinners(myself included).

The Real reason why we are in Afghanistan is for the drugs! Over 50% of the worlds Opium comes from Afghansitan! You dont think our government is makeing money off that? The DEA goes out on patrols with Marines! The reason why marines are in the Helmand River Valley is because of the Drugs! Yes their are Taliban there as well, but wouldnt you fight if your number one cash crop was being taken or burned? This is what Mattew Hoh is talking about. Their are even cities and villages in Afghanistan that are completely tailiban runned, and havnt ever seen Coalition troops since the war began. All of these undiscovered towns that are being discovered as we speak are along the southern Afghanistan/ Pakistan border. Enormous amounts of poppy and marijuana grow there.
