FACEBOOK has launched a tool that allows users to see what their “friends” have been doing on other websites.
The new application, Facebook Connect, allows members to log on to other sites using their Facebook login details.
Privacy watchdogs are on alert over the new tool, which is being rolled out by the social networking giant with a number of partner websites in the coming weeks.
Among the first sites visitable through Connect will be the Discovery Channel, social news site Digg and video site Hulu.

The company believes the built-in socialising tool similar to ventures being trialled by Yahoo!, Google and MySpace will help to make web-surfing a more social experience.
For example, Connect will let friends gather virtually to watch a video on Hulu and chat about it, all in the same place.
Connect will give Facebook extra information about its members’ interests, which could be used to target advertising.
