FCC Commissioner: Fairness Doctrine Could Lead To Government Regulation Of Web
McDowell says reinstated powers could be tagged on to net neutrality debate by leading Democrats

FCC Commissioner Robert McDowell says that the potential re-introduction of the Fairness Doctrine under a Democratic administration could lead to “government dictating content policy” on the Internet.
The Fairness Doctrine was an FCC regulation mandating broadcasters afford time to opposing viewpoints. It was abolished in 1987 by the Supreme Court after it was found to be harmful to journalistic freedom and anathema to the First Amendment.
Speaking to the Business and Media Institute, McDowell stated that the Fairness Doctrine could return under a different name and be tagged on to the net neutrality debate, opening the door for the government to regulate content on the Web.

McDowell said the net neutrality effort could win the support of “a few isolated conservatives” who may not fully realize the long-term effects of government regulation.

“I think the fear is that somehow large corporations will censor their content, their points of view, right,” McDowell said. “I think the bigger concern for them should be if you have government dictating content policy, which by the way would have a big First Amendment problem,” said McDowell.
“Then, whoever is in charge of government is going to determine what is fair, under a so-called ‘Fairness Doctrine,’ which won’t be called that – it’ll be called something else,” McDowell said. “So, will Web sites, will bloggers have to give equal time or equal space on their Web site to opposing views rather than letting the marketplace of ideas determine that?” he added.
The reinstitution of the Fairness Doctrine has strong support amongst top Democratic powerbrokers and an effort to push it through under a different name is expected should Barack Obama secure the presidency.
In June, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told reporters that the Democratic caucus was interested in bringing back the Fairness Doctrine. Senators Richard Durbin and John Kerry have also publicly supported its return.
Neo-Con radio talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh have long railed against the Fairness Doctrine, but its impact would be felt by all alternative news outlets, who would be forced to devote some of their time to parroting government talking points while enduring constant harassment and threat of closure.

I was ‘out and about’ all day yesterday, but I actually read all of your posts addressed to me on that forum late last night.
I have a few criticisms of the US Constitution, which I do not regard as Holy Writ. The Constitution has some flaws.
One criticism is that the Constitution was composed by people who didn’t recognize the ‘natural rights’ of blacks, women, or Native Americans.
No matter how ‘great’ the Constitution is, it failed from the very beginning to prevent the US government from ignoring it, or misinterpreting it.
My point: if the Constitution is so great, how did it allow the USA to go fascist? (And the USA has been fascist from Day One.) The Constitution is flawed and it needs to be rewritten. We need a new Constitution.
Given the history of the US government and the US military, I most certainly do not want to partipate in any reform movement which is led by those “… who have commited to the duty decreed by their enlistment.” US military vets have demonstrated over and over again their willingness to blindly follow the ruling elite and to IGNORE the Constitution. I personally will have nothing to do with any group that idolizes the military vets, or puts them in charge of anything.

The only way you’re going to get people to stop having too many children is to stop rewarding them for having children. Instead of providing tax breaks for child dependents, we need to establish substantial tax increases for having childen.
People who choose not to have children should be awarded substantial tax breaks and special privileges. For example, the base ‘carbon credit’ allowance for the childless person should be HUGE compared to the ‘carbon credit’ allowance for parents.

I realized in my early teens that by far the worst thing that the US government does is aggress and exploit vulnerable foreign popluations. The word for this is Imperialism.
The US government employs a double standard in the way that it treats its own citizens versus vulnerable foreign populations.
Making blacks use separate restrooms in the American South was very wrong, but the genocide of 200,000 Guatemalan peasants by US led death squads weighed far worse on the scale of evil.
The USA’s ruling elite and the US fascist rank and file figured out a long time ago that by providing prosperity and relative freedom within the USA, they could get away with monstrous barbarity against vulnerable foreign populations. Their international crimes are ignored or forgiven by the fat and comfortable US population.

Because of the Fairness Doctrine, back in the 1960s I was able on several occasions to write and present one-minute radio speeches that contained an opposing view to various topics that were discussed in the news.
If the Fairness Doctrine is to be restored in the form that it existed originally, that would allow 9/11 Truthers, anti-War activists, and government critics to demand ‘equal time’ on ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, Fox News, PBS, and Clearchannel to present our own view and opinion regarding every news subject there is.
That part sounds good to me. Very good.

Perhaps the reason that US military officers are required to swear an oath to defend the Constitution, instead of the ‘Rights of Man’ or the Declaration of Independence, is because the Constitution is little more than a ‘Roberts Rules of Order’ for the internal business of the US government, while the ‘Rights of Man’ describes the universal, natural rights of all human beings, and the Declaration of Independence affirms the right of citizens to overthrow their government.

The original text of the Constitution itself has nothing to say about search and siezure; that’s in the Ammendments to the Constitution.
Part of the problem I see with the Constitution is that there is at least one glaring omission: the Constitution has very little to say about US foreign policy. The result is that our leaders simply make up US toreign policy as they choose, and US foreign policy has been essentially aggressive and Imperialist from the very beginning.

ok, i like this idea alot!!!….standing by, “army commander” is a great game for this as the game is really mostly broken, and there is nothing to download…..check it out, it really has lots of communication possibilities.

as i posted ^^^ (up there), we are trying to arrange a way to meet online(in a more secure way)jennifer D., stick around, WE NEED SOLDIERS, to fight the fools(not gun carrying soldiers, but information guys), and people who are good at delegating and whatnot…we are just starting the thing, so please keep on point, be patient, it is a work in progress.

The ventrillo and teamspeak services are free as far as i know, i myself still play WoW (at 33…lol) so a bit familiar with these.
But there must be features the internet offers that is used for virtual meetings in offices, …..something to look into.
Basically everything is possible, message boards, video and audio.
I currently live on an island in the caribbean (pop 3000) so this would be the best option for me.
And dont forget to set up dummy yahoo or hotmail acc for verification purposes related to these sites.

I am not familiar with thiose games. My son plays halo a lot and has this thing on that xbox360. He talks with opponents.
I did have a convo with a prof at the college and she was mentioning these virtual worlds with avitars.
I don’t know much a bout them. I’m mostly a football guy, gaming wise.
The avitars, as would be with the games you mentioned, I don’t know how they are security wise.
I had read a post..not sure from who, but it stated peaceful and info as the main theme. (not violence)
Personally that’s not my nature, I will fight for what I believe in though.
I think more people must know and a major outcry must happen. Peaceful yes..but a willingness to inact a show of force if necessary. To uphold the constitution. And Damnit, just whats right.

By the way- the good builderburg idea- ain’t quite liking the name but the idea had some merrit. Not sure if that was from this string… Gerory Figel was part of that. But I am a vocalist for an original metal band. (yes, metal has been talkin about this shit for years) got plenty of tunes, and we are fresh outta the studio. Might fit the bill. Being a part of that event in Minn. with Willie Nelson might be the start. It’s part of the Ron Paul revolution. Gotta take advantage of that stuff. Never thought I’d see the day where willie nelson and Suicidal tendencies would play together.

I want to take a colon cleanser but do not know which one I should buy? There are so many on the market and it is very confusing! Can you please suggest me a colon cleanser that might be wort trying? I don’t want to throw my money away. Thanks for your help!
