  • FDA Admits Cloned Meat, Milk May Have Already Entered Food Supply

The FDA has admitted that meat and milk from the offspring of cloned mammals such as cows, pigs, goats and sheep could very well have already entered the food supply in the United States.

“It is theoretically possible,” agency spokesperson Siobhan DeLancey said.

In January, the FDA declared that foods derived from cloned animals and their offspring were safe for human consumption. The U.S. Department of Agriculture, however, asked food companies to voluntarily maintain a ban on products from clones.

The voluntary ban did not extend to the offspring of cloned animals.

Clones are organisms artificially developed directly from the DNA of a single organism, rather than the mixing that is difficult in sexual reproduction. They are made by implanting the nucleus of an adult cell into an egg cell, which is then incubated by a surrogate mother.

According to critics of the technology, very little research has been conducted on the safety of consuming meat or dairy products from clones or their offspring, thus making it premature to bring such products to market.

“It worries me that this technology is out of control in so many ways,” said Charles Margulis of the Center for Environmental Health. He said that the FDA’s announcement that clones’ offspring might already been food supply “is just another element of that.”

A number of major U.S. food producers have announced that they will not use any ingredients derived from cloned animals, due in part to safety concerns. Companies enforcing a ban on clone products include Smithfield Foods, General Mills, Campbell Soup, Nestle, California Pizza Kitchen, Supervalu, Kraft Foods and Tyson Foods, the largest meat company in the United States.

Kraft said that consumer demand influenced its decision.

“Research in the United States indicates that consumers are currently not receptive to ingredients from cloned animals,” said Director of Corporate Affairs Susan Davison.

      thank goodness I’m semi vegetarian.

ROFL!! yea like THAT is gonna help!! If no “meat”, then maybe some “cloned” and “genetically modified” vegies will go for ya. Now BE A GOOOOD BOY obedient to your masters, and eat your “healthy” vegetables…HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE….

      Anon. of Ibid. Reply:

Ha! Exactly! GM veggies are rampant in the supermarkets now and some contain chicken or pig DNA. It’s the ultimate insult to vegetarians and vegans. Like you just can’t escape. Definately not kosher for sure! I think we should all take a lesson from the cult classic ” Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! “.

    2. Earthmother Says:

But cloning is different from genetically modified, right? What’s wrong with eating a cloned animal?

      Earthmother Reply:

Just an afterthought: a lot of us SMOKE things that are cloned, all the time. Is there something wrong with that? (Other than smoking sometimes ain’t legal nor real healthy and cloning ain’t natural) The majority of folks eat stuff every day that are full of things that you can’t even pronounce that would be unrecognizable as food if you could look at it by itself.

As long as they don’t start cloning the GM stuff!!!!!!!!

Like the article read, ” very little research has been conducted on the safety of consuming meat or dairy products from clones or their offspring, thus making it premature to bring such products to market.”

    3. Darth Chaos Says:

Has anybody ever thought of the possibility that the elite are deliberately contaminating the meat and dairy supplies so people will go vegetarian and consume bucketloads of soy, of which 99% are GMO and owned by the very elite who contaminated the meat and dairy supplies?

      Helena Reply:

Interesting theory, but just as an fyi, going veg doesn’t mean you have to eat tons of soy. There are milks and “mock meat” products made from other ingredients – like almond or rice milks and stuff made from seitan, tempeh, and even mushrooms (Quorn brand).

I’m right there with ‘kaz’ – but vegan.

Agreed. Ever tried the “Savory Mushroom Black Eyed Pea Burger” from Toni Fiore’s “Delicious TV: Totall Vegetarian”? It’s a veggie burger which uses black eyed peas instead of soy as the meat substitute, and it is soooo delicious. Here’s the recipe.

Yes cloneing is differnt from enhanceing…but still bad.

once there is a product its there, nature provides the blue prints…
once that blue print is clode, it s cells are changed. delluted..ok hrm lets be less scientific
      maybe understand better.OK

you know how if you have a copy of a vido, and its clear and good the first copy,
but after it gets passed around online, the quality and video performace changes and
      becomes crappy over time..

same concept applies for cloneing..the same thing over and over again
it become crappy, and the protine and acides you need form the prodiut
suck, you will become less health because your not getting the right amout
of minerals etc, that your body needs to and more fat and such, you will need
to eat more and become fatter and fatter, and weaker.. ok i hope that gives you
an idea, befor i start rambeling.

      Earthmother Reply:

Which would explain why cloned “plants” do NOT always turn out nearly as good as the parent plant…. SAVE YOUR SEEDS!

    5. wlp Says:

grow grow grow your own food, save a penny, and save the day.
grow grow your own food, make you healthy and have safty
get a bottle store your water, Have a well, oh its swell.
grow grow grow your own food, its catch and saftey.

    6. Anon. of Ibid. Says:

Well good for those companies listening to the people unlike some congressional members in this country. In the next few months or the next year or so we need to be aware of Codex Alimentarius making it’s way thru Congress. I really suggest everyone Google it and get informed if you don’t already know about it.

Also, if you’re going to grow your own food, please go out of the way to procure heritage seeds as they are apparently unmodified. Tell Monsanto and co. to kindly Eff off. And if you have a house already that’s not in foreclosure or worse, and if that house has a large swath of pristine emerald turf, dig it up, wall it off, and turn it into a vegetable garden! ou will never regret it.

    7. The Survey Seeker Says:

As a college graduate with a science background I can honestly say that the fear of cloned animals having safety issues is quite absurd.
Any animal chose to be cloned would be given better heath care and testing than the average human gets in their entire lifetime before being given a clean bill of health. Perfect qualities can be picked and then duplicated in mass assuring a safer and more abundant meat supply through the use of cloning.
I do agree that the FDA has some serious problems with oversight but that oversight would be better off looking into GMO projects and even some nano projects that I’ve seen that are questionable.
Many people do not realize this but cloning is not new, it has been done for many years now in experimental situations. This is not one of those ” OK we did it last year and we will let the population tell us if its safe ” Many cloned animals lived normal and healthy lives from birth to death.
One wonders what you people will think when you start hearing mainstream stories about life expanding technologies that will be coming to a doctor near you within the next ten years. Will you be complaining that the global elite can now live for even longer, or will you work toward having your own longer and healthier and dare I even say it; happier life?

Enough of the weighty stuff. Come to my site http://www.surveyseeker.net and learn how you can make some extra money by doing online surveys. I have made over $150 this week so far and the week is not over. I’m not trying to sell anything, and I would charge you a thing for anything at my site, I’m just doing my part to help out my fellow man. In all honesty some of the survey panels pay me to recruit people for them, but I have only made $2 this month doing that so its not a big deal to me one way or another. I am building a community of people who want to share their opinion with corporations of the world and help to build the products of the future.

    8. molotovmouse Says:

I still don’t get it. Is there some kind of animal reproduction issue that requires cloned animals?

I work around livestock and the males have never ‘not performed.’

    9. Elucidatus Says:

Consume Hemp, Hemp Seed, Hemp Oil and Hemp Seed Oil. Don’t eat that crap because you are consuming GM Meat that will cause cancer. Start your own Hemp farm.

    10. Monica Says:

Oh, no my friends, this cloned food has already hit the markets and grocery stores. The FDA says they do not have to label any food items as “cloned”. Do you ever listen to The Derry Brownfield Show? He talks about this all the time, just like Alex.

This is the perfect way for us to have an early demise if you ask me.
