Just now BC is hurting badly with the forestry since they used to ship wood down to the US for home construction. There is a small town called MacKenzie in northern BC where people have lost their jobs in the forestry industry and are selling their homes or trying to (abandoning is more of the word) to go to Alberta to work in the oil and gas sands. Some people here in Canada are wakening up to all this crazy SPP stuff but not too many are awaked. We keep trying to awaken some here and there and I think that those who are hard hit financially are starting to see what is going on in the US and how it is affecting ourselves. With the buying up of properties in the US for the interstate highways to bring more cheap garbage from China this is going to be mighty devestating on the roads and bridges. As is our highways and roads here in Canada are atrocious and I know that things are not good in the US as well. The amount of traffic on the highways and bridges will be devestating and mighty dangerous indeed. Oh my son was waiting outside the Chateau Laurier Hotel for senator McCain to come out and he thought that he would get his picture taken with him but the weasle left through the back door. Most likely he didn't want to confront the public about the insane SPP and couldn't lay his b s on the people in the same way he has Harper all mesmorized - a real Bush want to be. A lot of us would like to give him and others a plane ticket down south but everyone down south would have a reject button on their lapels. We are all in this mess together. Our countries and our world are gone down the drain. I just wonder what the solution is to this terrible problem. I don't think it's so much denial as it is apathy and indifference. People in this country, the one's that work and vote, are so busy doing their "thing" that they just don't care about what's going on in someone else's backyard. All they care about is their lives and what's good for them. Problem with that is once you allow things to happen somewhere else, you're saying your ok with it. And you set the precedent. NAFTA will succeed because it's a national project and although it may become front page news on the local level, it'll rarely be talked about on the national level. The main stream media is in on the raping, right along with the rest of the big multinationals. The country is being raped and the people just go about their routines as if nothing is happening. The only way this can change is if the heat gets turned up too rapidly. If gas goes through the ceiling, and food keeps getting more and more expensive, if the DOW continues to plunge, and home values continue to migrate south, I think that may be enough of a slap in the face to actually get enough people's attention. The scam is very apparent, it's just a matter of getting enough people's attention - soon enough. They're not rushing to get their police state grid in place for nothing. They know things could get out of hand soon. This country has been in a bubble for a long time. They've blown this bubble up about as big as they can get it and it could blow at any time.
