Five US Soldiers Killed By Huge Truck Bomb

A suicide truck bomber has attacked an Iraqi base in the northern city of Mosul, killing five US soldiers and two Iraqi policemen.

US and Iraqi forces opened heavy fire on the truck after it ignored a request to stop at a checkpoint on the approach to the base.

“The truck exploded 50 metres before reaching its target,” Iraqi Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Abdul Karim Khalaf said.

“There was more than 1,000kg of explosives in the truck, which levelled three buildings.”

The attack was the deadliest against US soldiers in Iraq for months.

Two US soldiers and 20 members of the Iraqi security forces were wounded in the blast, the US military said.
