Food prices are rising at the highest level since records began, according to the latest official statistics.
Factory gate prices, the amount manufacturers charge buyers such as supermarkets, increased by 11.4pc last month compared to the year before.
It is a rise that is likely to be passed on to consumers. In July, prices were 10.8 per cent up on the year before. Experts warn that while overall inflation looks to be easing, food prices are likely to remain high for some time to come.

The Office of National Statistics said factory food inflation, measured in the Producer Prices Index, was running at the highest level since it started monitoring prices in 1986.
It added that meat, yoghurt and bread prices continued to rise between July and August. The figures come as leading food executives and scientists warned that families faced paying high prices for their weekly shop for “at least 10 years”, as increasing number of mouths to feed around the world.

Greater regulation on Food also will add to rising food costs, according to Paul Roberts of the L.A. Times. Devaluation of the American dollar and the greater purchasing of foreign goods, ( validated by the fact that in almost every case, contaminated food items were purchased or processed through Mexico). Higher fuel prices for shipping goods, more food being witheld by the Government from the market to feed other countries and welfare recipients, eliminating competition. These are all also contributors to greater food cost.

India and Pakistan are the bread basket of the world. Have warships on the supply line, the world will starve. The USA should remove its armada so that India and Pakistan can supply food to the world. Pakistan and India feed the world, but no one wants to admit that. No one can eat cars, computers and their software or for that mattter Ipods, people need food. This crisis has been made by US paranioa. They check every shipment coming out of Pakistan and India the result is a massive food shortage. Lots of the shipments are dumped into the sea out fear that it could be some dangerous weapon instead of food. Only mad people make such decisions
