Former Governor Ventura Talks Paul/Ventura Ticket alg trutv jesse ventura 20100309 599

Appearing on the Alex Jones Show on Wednesday, former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura talked with Alex about the possibility of Ron Paul leaving the Republican Party and joining the Libertarian Party as their presidential candidate and if he would run with the Texas congressman.

On Sunday, Paul told CNN’s “State of the Union” program that he has not ruled out a third party run if he is not nominated by the Republicans to run against Obama in 2012. He was the Libertarian Party’s presidential nominee in 1988 and ran for the GOP nomination in 2008.

Jim Lesczynski, media relations director for the Manhattan Libertarian Party, told ABC News on Sunday that his party would welcome Ron Paul as its candidate. “Absolutely, that would be fabulous,” he said, but stressed that Paul would have to make the move by the first week of May when the party selects a candidate.

Ventura told Alex’s audience that Paul is handling his run “brilliantly” because he needs to remain in the Republican Party in order to stay in the debates and use the establishment media to make his political stand on the issues known.

“He should cling to the Republicans all the way until they make their choice,” Ventura said. “That way he can get all the free air time, even though mainstream media ignores him.” He said the Republican debates are “virtually unwatchable” and Rep. Paul is “clearly the only one who makes any sense whatsoever out of the whole bunch of candidates up there.”

Alex then approached Ventura directly about the prospect of running with Paul. “I would give it serious consideration,” Jesse relied. “I would not say right now if whether yes or no because naturally I would have to discuss with my family before I would do any venture like that.”

He was then asked if he would seek the Libertarian nomination on his own if for whatever reason Ron Paul did not run. Jesse said that would require the Libertarians asking him. He noted that they have not done so in the past, so “the ball would be in their court.”
