French police probe suspicious package at Paris department store

Police evacuated a major department store in central Paris Tuesday after finding five sticks of dynamite inside, French police told CNN.

CNN affiliate BFM-TV reported the dynamite was not rigged to explode, but police did not immediately confirm the report.

French news agency AFP said it received a letter in the mail Tuesday morning, claiming to be from an Afghan revolutionary group and saying that a bomb was at the renowned Printemps department store. The news agency alerted the police, who evacuated the store, AFP told CNN.

The bomb squad found the suspicious package around 11 a.m. (5 a.m. ET) and were still investigating nearly two hours later, police said.

AFP said the letter was signed by a group called “Front Revolutionaires Afghan,” or Afghan Revolutionary Front. BFM-TV reported the group is calling for the withdrawal of French troops from Afghanistan by the end of February 2009.

   STRANGE TERROR ATTEMP IN FRANCE

   FRANCE 12/16/08

   First of all the facts: An unknown group called the “Front revolutionary afghan” afghan revolutionnary front send a letter to the AFP to warn that several explosive devices were set in a supermarket ” Printemps homme Haussmann” in Paris.
   that shop was searched and the police found five old sticks of dynamites unconnected, dropped in water! and useless.
   that group claims that the french army must leave Afghanistan before February 2009.

   A quick analyse of those facts doesn’t match with a first possibility: a “real” al-quaeda attack.
   Al-queada doesn’t warn before the bombs blow up, it use real and efficient explosive and there is another weird sign, that group called the supermarket ” those capitalist shops ” it doesn’t sound like a “Muslim extremist ” sentence at all

   a second possibility is simply real amateur terrorism. ” those capitalist shops ” sounds like a far left idealist way of thinking.
   In the 80’s, a genuine , at least at the beginning, far left group called ” action direct ” carried real terror acts. They wanted to ” wake up ” the people and bring a communist revolution.

   The third possibility is a state sponsored/ false flag/ attack. It is quiet unlikely for simples reasons.
   France has a long history of campaign of terror on his soil. In the 90’s, an Algerian group, manipulated by the Algerian services, killed and wounded a lot of people. So in order to really panic the french citizens, A “big hit” would be needed
   the french services and the police are still, at least in the low and medium levels, quite patriotic.

   The fourth possibility is a “warning” or message from a foreign service . Who knows what is going on behind the scene?

   A fifth possibility is simply a “black op” to test people and police, the way they react and if they are ready to face a real attack, it would be cynical but not impossible at all.

   My personal choice is the second possibility. It smells like young, lost idealists from the left disgusted by what is going on in Afghanistan. I can understand that but i cannot forgive the use of violence. It is true that we, the people, don’t have our word on what the government does but killing innocents won’t change that.
