Gaza rockets put Israel’s nuclear plant in battle zone

There were growing fears in Israel last night that Hamas missiles could threaten its top-secret nuclear facility at Dimona.
Rocket attacks from Gaza have forced Israelis to flee in ever greater numbers and military chiefs have been shaken by the size and sophistication of the militant group’s arsenal.
In Beersheba, until a few days ago a sleepy desert town in southern Israel, there is little sign of the 186,000 inhabitants. Schools are closed and the streets of shuttered shops echo with the howl of sirens warning of incoming rockets.
Israeli planes, meanwhile, began a new stage yesterday in their offensive on Gaza, killing Nizar Rayyan, a senior Hamas official. The one-tonne bomb in Jabaliya is also understood to have killed two of his four wives and four of his twelve children. More than 400 Palestinians have been killed in the six days of Israeli attacks.

Despite a diplomatic mission by Tzipi Livni, the Israeli Foreign Minister, to Paris, the Israeli army continued to muster thousands of troops and scores of tanks along Gaza’s border for a possible ground offensive. Israel’s airstrikes are designed to blunt Hamas’s capacity to fire its new Grad missiles deep into its territory. The weapons are smuggled in through tunnels and by sea, replacing homemade Qassam rockets.
Israeli officials say that Hamas has also acquired dozens of Iranian-made Fajr-3 missiles with an even longer range. Many fear that as the group acquires ever more sophisticated weaponry it is only a matter of time before the nuclear installation at Dimona, 20 miles east of Beersheba, falls within its sights. Dimona houses Israel’s only nuclear reactor and is believed to be where nuclear warheads are stored.

Don’t worry John Kent, the Israelis are surely using that high grade depleted uranium in their ammunition and bombs. When that stuff seeps into the ground water supply in ever growing numbers, you’ll see birth defects and cancer rates soar. In such close proximity to each other, it will be a shared misery.
I doubt the bottle rockets could hit the plant, let alone do any damage unless Homer Simpson is working there.

I am somewhat confused by this article. If the locations of the ’secret’ tunnels were known and they were destroyed (as I have read in reports elsewhere), the borders are closed on all sides by Israel and Egypt (by soldiers, tanks and ships)…
Then how are Hamas militants going to come by these weapons? What’s more, if Iran is sneaking these into Gaza, how does Israel seem to know what they are and how many?
Something feels even more wrong than usual about these claims.

I agree with #8, it does sound like disinfo that Hamas is getting a lot of new longer range “missiles” while no one can even leave the sealed country. It sounds like another excuse to keep bombing and attacking defenseless people.

To occupy a territory and expect the population NOT to take a few potshots at them is ignorant. The way in which one deals with this problem is crucial. Isreal needs to start treating its neighbors better.

Those people in Gaza were forced out of their homes and Israel took their land and pushed them out in a field and gave them nothing. Now to you that may not be a big deal, so I would say to you to give your home to one of those people who are in Gaza and live out in a field yourself.

Palistinians lived in Israel for 100’s of years before they were forced out after WWII. There needs to be some kind of peace between them or the jews need to leave the lands they have been occupieing for the last 50 or so years. I have no problems with jews and I don’t hate jews. Israel maintains nuclear weapons as a peaceful deterent in a hateful world. Gods chosen people must survive. Camel jockeys that evolved into business men came to Telaviv and became sucessful and jewish. Those still riding camels are just taking up space. Good land going to waste. Why not develop a nice condominium village on the beach and send the village people to some other camel jockey tribe’s campground?

Perhaps what the world ought to consider is formally not recognizing Israel as an independent country, afterall, they only exist because they were illegally created by Britain, the US and deceptive Zionists who basically tricked and bankrupted the world and have failed to render good faith towards the true inhabitants of Palestine–the Palestinians.
