Rudy Giuliani, speaking before the organization primarily responsible for turning the Tea Party movement into a cheering section for the Republicans, has made the absurd claim that Obama is responsible for the OWS movement.
“This is a very dangerous movement, and it’s ironic it’s happening under a president who promised to unify us,” Giuliani told a crowd at the Defending the American Dream Summit, sponsored by the Americans for Prosperity Foundation, an organization started by oil billionaire David Koch and Richard Fink. “Barack Obama owns the Occupy Wall Street movement, it would not have happened but for his class warfare,” he said.
“Barack Obama praised it, sympathizes with it,” Giuliani continued. “As it gets worse and worse, I believe this will be the millstone around Barack Obama’s neck that will take his presidency down.”
Democrats have attempted to take over the OWS movement in much the same way the Republicans hijacked the original Tea Party movement. Many OWS supporters are Democrats or support the political initiatives of establishment Democrats. A Washington Post poll conducted last month shows that 64% of OWS supporters are either Democrats or lean Democrat.
Giuliani’s simplistic and cynically disingenuous claim is obviously untrue. First, according to polls, while around sixty percent of OWS supporters voted for Barack Obama in 2008, about three-quarters now disapprove of Obama’s performance as president. In other words, while Obama said he is sympathetic to the movement, most of its supporters believe he is part of the problem.
Second, Obama’s anti-banker stance is an easily disputed farce. His administration is ruled by the bankster cartel, in particular the great vampire squid itself, Goldman Sachs. The list of present and former Goldies in the Obama administration include: Larry Summers, Timothy Geithner, Rahm Emanuel, Gary Gensler, Mark Patterson and a long list of others. “But that’s just the tip of the Goldman Sachs iceberg. Here you will find, I believe, the most comprehensive list of people-groups yet available to show how Obama’s administration has really become the Goldman Sachs administration,” the FDL website noted early last year.
The “Obama administration is not the first administration that Goldman has infiltrated, although it is perhaps the one that has been most completely co-opted from top to bottom. Recall that former Secretary of the Treasury Paulson in the George W. Bush era came from — Goldman Sachs where he was its chief. Recall too that the brilliant, late economist John K. Galbraith has written an entire chapter of a book devoted to the Great Depression and the economic collapse of Wall St. that accompanied it to the role of Goldman Sachs.”
Rudy and the Republicans, of course, will never mention this angle because they take political money from Wall Street and Goldman Sachs just like the Democrats. In fact, Rudy was instrumental in setting up the Paid Detail Unit in 1998 when he was mayor of New York City. It “allows the New York Stock Exchange and Wall Street corporations [including Goldman Sachs]… to order up a flank of New York’s finest with the ease of dialing the deli for a pastrami on rye,” writes Pam Martens.
It has never been easier to see right through the false right-left rhetoric spewed by both Republicans and Democrats. The reprehensible Rudy Giuliani – who attempted to take the Republican presidential nomination in 2008 by portraying himself as a 9/11 hero – is attempting to convince blinkered Republicans that the OWS movement is run out of the White House by Obama and his operatives. Rudy, naturally, is reading from a script passed down by the Koch brothers and various “right” foundations that serve the very same establishment interests as the “left” ones.
