Lake effect snow will blanket the Chicago area on Tuesday, dumping up to 18 inches in parts of Northwest Indiana.

A lake effect snow warning is in effect for Lake and Porter counties in Indiana from 9 a.m. Tuesday until 4 a.m. Wednesday. A lake effect snow advisory has been issued for Cook and Lake counties in Illinois, Jasper County in Indiana, and Kenosha, Racine, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties in Wisconsin.

CBS 2’s Ed Curran reports that while conditions will be clear far inland, heavy snow will develop along the lakefront as winds turn out of the north. The snow was over the middle of the lake before dawn Tuesday, but will make landfall as the morning goes on.
