Prime Minister Gordon Brown will today set out a five-point plan to create a “stronger and more just” world order in the wake of the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.
Mr Brown will call on fellow world leaders to use the current worldwide economic downturn as an opportunity to thoroughly reform international financial institutions and create a new “truly global society” with Britain, the US and Europe providing leadership.
His call comes ahead of an emergency summit of world leaders and finance ministers from 20 major countries, the G20, in Washington next weekend.

Mr Brown will say that the Washington meeting must establish a consensus on a new Bretton Woods-style framework for the international financial system, featuring a reformed International Monetary Fund which will act as a global early-warning system for financial problems.
The original Bretton Woods agreements, signed in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire in 1944, established post-war international monetary protocols governing trade, banking and other financial relations among nations, including fixed exchange rates and the IMF.
Mr Brown’s plan for strengthening the global economy 60 years later involves recapitalisation of banks to permit the resumption of normal lending to households and businesses, better international co-ordination of fiscal and monetary policy and a new IMF fund to help struggling economies and stop financial problems spreading between nations.

As if you HAVE to choose between two extremes! Countries work like the human mind. Humans have a protection shield around their psyche that keeps us sovereign.
We have the ability to let certain things in and keep other things out. A kind of bullshit detection mechanism so entities won’t abuse you. The trick is to let the right things in and the bullshit out.
In other words: you cooperate with things that are good for you (also in the long run) and don’t cooperate with the things that are bad for you (but maybe good in the short run). You make these decisions based on your own morals and values.
If you isolate yourself from everything and never cooperate (the protectionist), you are doomed, because the entities who do cooperate will outperform you and abuse you.
On the extreme opposite, if you give other entities with self-interest the sole power to decide what’s good for you (the international), they will abuse you as well.
So you must keep your own sovereignty until there’s an international body without self-interested individuals. Such a global conscious mind/ brain would be a revolutionary step forward in the evolution of life.

No Mr. Brown, we want a de-centralization of political power and a re-localization of the world economy because globalization is just an energy costly atransitional state of the world. Globalization and huge political structures like the EU are only possible as long as energy and other fossil resources are available in great surplus to enable exponential economic growth and to maintain big unsustainable social structures. Your vision of a world-government under the leadership of an economic elite simply has to fail because of a faulty resource assessment.
Mankind will face the ramifications of ‘peak oil’ within the next 5 years and no alternativ energy or resource can replace what oil in surplus has done for us in the last decades. A world-government structure will allocate huge resources just for itself. The ramifications of resource depletion due to overshoot economic growth will be very drastic within the next 10 years. It will become quite difficult to maintain a globalized political structure if important technical services like telecommunication will break down. We will face some kind of collapse soon. Your proposal for a unified world makes no sense in our time.
