Government scientist says global temperatures to rise 4 celsius

The UK should take active steps to prepare for dangerous climate change of perhaps 4C according to one of the government’s chief scientific advisers.
In policy areas such as flood protection, agriculture and coastal erosion Professor Bob Watson said the country should plan for the effects of a 4C global average rise on pre-industrial levels. The EU is committed to limiting emissions globally so that temperatures do not rise more than 2C.
“There is no doubt that we should aim to limit changes in the global mean surface temperature to 2C above pre-industrial,” Watson, the chief scientific adviser to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, told the Guardian. “But given this is an ambitious target, and we don’t know in detail how to limit greenhouse gas emissions to realise a 2 degree target, we should be prepared to adapt to 4C.”

Globally, a 4C temperature rise would have a catastrophic impact.
According to the government’s 2006 Stern review on the economics of climate change, between 7 million and 300 million more people would be affected by coastal flooding each year, there would be a 30-50% reduction in water availability in Southern Africa and the Mediterranean, agricultural yields would decline 15 to 35% in Africa and 20 to 50% of animal and plant species would face extinction.
In the UK, the most significant impact would be rising sea levels and inland flooding. Climate modellers also predict there would be an increase in heavy rainfall events in winter and drier summers.

OH, but I heard global warming isn’t real?
It is real, climate change IS happening. Humans are not the sole root cause, but attempting to deny we are having an impact (this site is peppered with those articles) is ludicrous.
A carbon tax is NOT the answer, it will not help clean up the mess, and will only allow people to profit from it.
This doesn’t mean the problem should be ignored and swept under the carpet, we’re part of the problem and we have it within our means TODAY to start counter acting any negative impact humans are having.
And if you thinks its bad now, just wait, China and India are just starting to kick into the industrial age, and they have considerably more people there than we do in our respective countries.

Why is there always an angle to the people who want so desperately for the masses to buy into thier propaganda. First of all mean temeratures measured in countryside settings has been relatively stable for many years and if any rise has happened it is something in the order of maybe one degree in three decades of measuring. The problem is the computer models in which you factor in a 4 degree change are so flawed as to show the world becoming unable to sustain life in something like a 20 year basis and when you plug in lets say 20 years of recent temperatures it DOES NOT follow the prediction therefore a false computer projection.

That is BULLSHIT…….do you realize what 4C is ? Do they think we’re retarded or something. If that happens there’s no Carbon TAX in the world that would lower the temperature no matter what. Also there will be NO flooding……the Arctic Ice is already gone. Check out Google Earth. There is no more ice in the Arctic. The sea did not rise and ice melted, so why don’t they SHUT UP and FUCK OFF.

Do you prefer 10 deg. warmer or 10 deg. cooler? Which do you think would have the most deadly impact on the human race? Now that we are heading to a cooling phase of the solar cycle, we should prepare to adapt to this new reality of climate change… yes, the climate can change both ways and sorry but we don’t decide which way it will go.

No the evidence all points to the climate being steady in the last 10 years and evidence also points to the fact that in the stratosphere the temperature is going down. It won’t take to long until it starts getting colder down here, we’re due for an ice age. All this global warming hype is just hippy propaganda so they can push there tree hugging ways on the rest of civilization.

Even the IPCC says that at MOST sea level rise of 14″ by 2090…
Probably closer to 7″… sea levels have been rising by 3″ to 4″ per century for quite awhile now….

Regarding the melting the of North Pole ice. The ice is already displacing its own volume in water. It’s melting won’t cause a rise in sea level. When ice cubes melt in in your ice tea, your glass doesn’t run over because the ice cubes were already displacing their own volume.
The rise in sea level comes from the melting of ice that was on land, ice that wasn’t already displacing its own volume. Like the ice in Greenland, in northern Canada, northern Eurasia, and worst of all, the South Pole.

Utter bullshit. 2005 was a record temperature year, as was 2007. a particularly strong El Nino raised temperatures in 1998 above the trend, and a La Nina is lowering current temperatures below the trend. So if 1998 and 2008 are very similar in temperature, if you take away those two effects, you get 2008 being hotter than 1998. Stop listening to the bullshit liars and deniers tell you – they are lying to you in order to protect the elites profit margin.

Wrong. Notice the last bit of that quote “above the troposphere, where temperatures increase with height.” The stratosphere works opposite to how it works below. The stratosphere is cooling, BECAUSE it is getting hotter below it.

Do they?

So they exclude one major factor, because it is as yet not very well quantified and only in their LOWEST scenario is it going to be 14 inches.

It was around 12 centimetres (or around 4.7 inches for the metrically disabled) in the last century. Of course that was when the effects were only just being felt. As warming increases, so will the rate of ice melt, and also thermal expansion of the oceans themselves.
In other words last century’s rate will NOT be next century’s rate. How different they will be is still being debated, but the fact is they WILL be different, and the latter will be faster. The question is, HOW MUCH faster.

Exactly Steve. There is also another factor, independent of ice melt. As ocean water warms up, it expands. Even if NO ice melts, the oceans will still rise by some amount just because of this unquestioned scientific fact.

Whatever Karmakaze I think global warming is a crock of shit and from what I have seen there is no evidence that supports it. But I guess we’ll see and honestly even if the caps do melt I honestly don’t give a shit because it won’t affect me. And most of the world won’t be affected either, if the sea level rises like 6 feet or whatever there saying it will thats nothing. New Orleans might be in for it and a few other places but other then that its meaningless.

The issue of global warming in relation to Alex Jones reminds me of my ‘Tony Blair Moment’. Several years ago (I live in the UK), I couldn’t pin anything specifically down on Blair (I have only really been looking into political corruption for the last 7 years or so). His PR team was so good, that you could almost believe that anything he did wrong was as a result of being duped (how naive was I at the time?).
However, the moment of cast iron truth came when he announced that he was throwing his lot in with Bush on the Iraq war, no matter what anyone else said. It hit me like a bolt of lightening, there was absolutely no doubt that almost all of what Bush was claiming was false, yet here he was supporting him, from that moment on I could completely dismiss him as either completely naive, too weak to stand up to him or just plain corrupt.
Which leads me back to Alex Jones. I regularly listened to him for quite some time. He got a lot wrong but also quite a lot right (this is more than can be said for the rather paranoid Watson Brothers BTW). He is obviously very bright and has a very quick mind, which for me always commands respect. However, like Blair, he (for me at least) has had one of those ‘I can be completely dismissed’ moments because of his insane position on global warming.
Suddenly his oft repeated phrase ‘hundreds of documents’ looks like complete claptrap. I have researched global warming and know when he is spouting nonsense, but what is more worrying, other areas that I know not near so much about and are presented in the same confident ‘hundreds of documents’ way suddenly seem like equal nonsense. He is SO irrational on the global warming thing, that I am beginning to think he is either a complete paranoid nut (have you head its to bring world government and kill us all) or he is getting backhanders from the oil industry.
Boy, how the might fall…
p.s. his nonsense (or should I say ‘waking people up to paranoid views of the world’) pops up everywhere. Guaranteed if you visit a site with a global warming article, there is one of his blind followers trying to tell us we have it all wrong, and we sould ‘do some research’ – oh, the irony.

I think Alex’s problem is he is a libertarian with cognitive dissonance. He believes in individual liberty and even the idea of a “free market”, but he sees that the latter is totally destructive to the former. Thus, there must be some reason for it OTHER than the idea of a “free market” is wrong. So he searches for and finds the “culprits”.
The benefit of that is, he has done a whole lot to expose the elites manipulation of economies and politics, but he has to put it in terms of an “overarching enemy” (the illuminati, or NWO, or whoever), to reconcile his desire for individual liberties.
So the “free market” isn’t to blame, because there ISN’T one! The hidden hand of the elites is actually controlling everything down to the last letter, and thus anything that he sees as being destructive to individual liberty MUST by definition be the result of that hidden hand.
This sort of belief structure can EASILY be manipulated. All you have to do is say something is good, and he will assume it is bad. Say it is bad, and he assumes it is good. Classical and rather obvious reverse psychology.
The upshot of this is, with regards to AGW, the elites propose “solutions” that aren’t and that really DO impact on individual liberties (never even touching the elites wealth for example) and say they are necessary because of AGW.
He loathes the policy, so the science must be a “hoax” – part of the mechanism of the hidden hand.
That is why all the Ron Paul love around here. These people think Ron Paul will save them from the NWO, but consider this:

Looks like Ive finally found the limits of free speech on Prison Planet.
I posted a comment before the comment by TTIOT, but it hasn’t appeared, yet when I try to post it again it tells me I have already posted that. My comment was posted about an hour before TTIOT’s comment appeared.
It seems I can be as rude and as crude as I want, but if I point out some rather unflattering things about Prison Planet’s motivations, suddenly my post doesn’t get through. I wonder why?

I honestly think you should calm down a little its not like the sky is falling today and the world is gonna end tomorrow because of global warming. I post again with some detail about why and how Prison Planet operates, and it doesn’t get through… but post again with a different login and only a semi-joking “conclusion”, and it gets through…
Then I mention I have been pre-banned from the forum, and THAT gets through, but the several long posts that show my reasoning and evidence behind that “conclusion” STILL haven’t showed up!
Seems my reasoning and evidence might be very close to the truth.
And no, Brandon, it didn’t have anything to do with AGW (at least not directly) as you can see from that “conclusion”. But, it seems I’m never going to be able to prove it to you, because for whatever reason Prison Planet doesn’t seem to want me to be able to say it…

My one still isn’t. And that is nearly 24 hours later now…
I tried posting the exact same thing (I have a copy in notepad) 4 times over 12 hours under three different logins, and other stuff I have posted has come through (as well as other posts from other people)
It can’t be simply a software delay otherwise it would still come up before other posts, and I am still able to post other messages, so it can’t be an IP address ban, or a login ban, so SOMEONE has to have read those attempted posts and decided to block them.
I am going to try again with another post…
